Chinese and other Asian countries routinely eat rat meat. However, many of those rats live out in the country and consume mostly natural foods such as rice and insects. Not the garbage present in big cities or the stuff in the sewers.

While I have not personally had the opportunity to try them, I have been told by friends that have eaten rat, that is is a lean tasty meat mild in flavor and not gamy.

I had just finished lunch with my wife when I saw the above. I almost regurgitated my nice piece of steak and mushrooms and a side of salad. Thanks.

Years ago I work in a stamping plant in the S.S of Chicago. The Mexicans used to catch them, cut off their heads and tail gut them out and cook them.

I might eat a country rat, never a city rat.
We made air guns to shoot the wharf rats at the submarine factory. They was as big as house cats!

If the rat problem is such a concern, why do the citizens keep voting them in?

Rodents can be good eating.. Rabbits, squirrels and groundhogs are commonly eaten in North America. Agouti, Guinea Pig, Chinchilla and Capybara are staples in South America. Never had rat, but I would think that there are individuals who could prepare one so that you'd never suspect what it actually was. Meat is meat. I have no illusions that rodent meat is somehow inferior to other types.
