Livin' in a cardboard box

http://www.fastcompany.com/1594990/a...mind-living-in

"We spend a lot of time looking at shelters here on FastCompany.com--from pop-up shelters for earthquake relief to the Open Architecture Network's challenge to build shelters with a social component, there is no shortage of designers trying to solve the ever-present problem of homelessness. But this mobile homeless shelter designed by Paul Elkins and featured on designboom is--dare we say it--kind of comfortable-looking."

its a relatively good idea for the homeless,
but a few things need to be worked out for it to be a viable solution
the whole fix the bugs in the idea process

like getting it up over curbs & other obstacles and down off the sidewalk
I'm not sure if those caster wheels are large enough,
and a rain/shade fly or side windbreak to set up
(would allow a bit of privacy to change clothes)

the easy to clean cushions are a good idea and as stated in the comments
a small solar panel would be a good thing, add a gel cell battery for a phone charging
setup and a few other small things, but the gross weight is a major limiting factor

http://www.cheaprvliving.com/Howtoliveinaboxvan.html
^^^ this is quite the interesting setup

But after a month of them pissing themselves and throwing up in them they will be condemned.. not very cost effective.

Problem is these people don't want to fish..The washington post did an experiment in the early 80's. Weened down thousand of homeless to a couple dozen they thought could go back into society..epic fail.

1 made it short term..most went back to the street in just a few weeks.
These people are human refuse..nothing more.

Fire joke is just my sad attempt at being glib!

I've got no problem with unemployment! Give a man 6 months to get back on his feet every 5-10 years, no problemo! 99 weeks? FOAD!

Lay me off today, and I can promise you I will be flipping burgers or better within 2 weeks! When me and the EX moved to Tucson in 89 because her job was moving and it offered better benefits than Intel did, I went on unemployment, I also signed up with a local temp agency in Tucson, and it's been awhile so I dis-remember all the pertinent facts, but I worked a multitude of just 'filling in' jobs, faked being a real electrician for 4 months without getting busted, drove a forklift for 3 months because of course "I had years of virgin experience on a forklift' wound up re-vampng their computer system, and turned down both a full-time electrician position (and I know next to nothing about the big E!) in a Weiser Lock manufacturing facility, and the forklift/IT position at the Chamberlain garage door opener warehouse. I finally secured fulltime employment with my current employer in mid 1990 and have been there ever since. I think during about 9-10 months of piecemeal work I logged a total of 1.5 months of unemployment benefits.

I submit that anyone incapable of getting a job for themselves would be unable to retain one "given" to him.

I hear ya, I used to work with a guy that was a 3rd shift tunnel rat in the coal hole,
he cut tunnel at night when the inspectors were not there, he shot more rock than everyone else - period.

He would slip back around the first corner, pull the scorpion out of his pocket, holler fire, fire, fire -
throw the safety off and hit the go button, shoot the rock face, walk back to his lunch box & thermos,
grab a quick bite & a cup of coffee while things settled, then start mucking rock to the conveyor belt
threw up bracing as he cleared the tunnel floor and then start drilling the face pattern again,
he had a bad habit of using a extra half stick of 80% rock powder just to make sure the cut cleared and
he didn't have to drill out sticks of powder (never know when you might hit a hot cap)

and he gave me some good advise ....... always wear your rubber gloves when handling powder,
and never, ever wipe sweat from your forehead when handling powder, take your rubber gloves off
pull your handkerchief out, wipe the sweat, put it back in your pocket, put your rubber gloves back
on and finish the job; the powder sticks "sweat" and the "sweat" will give you a instant migraine headache
a thousand times worse than when EMT's slap a "patch" on a heart attack victim, and never eat bananas
or peanut butter anything while working in the coal hole ........ horrendous heartburn for some strange reason
it will double you over unable to do damn near anything ....... not good a half mile underground ....
and he was even bigger than me
