Excellent! Although I have to be in DC (Devil's Country) on the 1st, so I will probably have to skip the afterparty this year. Maybe I can come down a day early to help you set up and make up for it -

Nothing exciting. I promise I am not taking the FAL to remind those who work for us that they do work for us.

I am simply going in full camouflage (as a respectable businessman), to nod, smile, shake hands, and speak to our congresscritters about natural gas. In my ninjutsu days we called it hensojutsu. I get stuck doing this more than I would like lately, but it is a necessity I'm afraid.

On the calendar!

I am aiming for last place....anything better than that is an improvement from my goal...kinda like government budgeting.

Do we all get trophies?

Oh yeah, I will be there.

There are some people I really want to see!!!

Plus having an unbroken scope ought to help my score considerably..

Awesome, does this mean you're going to follow through on your veiled threats to do me harm?

This ain't my shoot, so this may be me getting out of my lane, but I'll say this anyway:

the bad feelings should probably be checked at the door. The likelihood of this is much higher if they don't ratchet up between now and then.

Peace.

I have no hard feelings, and I agree. I have no intention to cause any issues for anyone at any point. I also don't let things posted in the internet bother me, unlike others. I find this whole situation rather humorous.

And I won't respond to the trolling in this thread anymore. I guess when someone makes a veiled threat toward me and follows up with a post like this, clearly directed toward me, I felt the need to call them out. Now, they may squim and squirm, him and haw, but if they are honest with themselves and the God they profess to be a follower of, they will admit the same.

Peace right back at ya.

Yes. The year I put glass on my FAL at my match I will want to be butt-stroked at the buzzer.

I have not yet lost the faith for Okie and the irons...but it is a very real possibility.

Here I will repost a statement I made in 2014. This is not accusatory or judgemental, I am not calling anyone out or threatening anyone. I know very well the difference between a threat and a promise.

Quote:
"Everyone who shoots this match is welcome at my house, at least this one night, but understand, there is a rule here that says "Love lives here...bring nothing else." I used to worry about what evil might find it's way into my home in this way...then I realized I was drowning in men that would have been knights in another time."
Screw this up and I will not be able to stop them...much as I might want to.

I wish you could have shot our local match as it would have been a good test for you, except there was no positional shooting from the V-tac barricade. You might have faired much better than I, and I think the guy shooting the Garande might have made his hits (after a looong time) but the biggest challenge I found was 5" plates at 100 and 135 yards. They were grey and washed out and I just couldn't see what I needed to see to make the hits. It would have been cool to see if you could have made your hits (a very real possibility) or if you encountered the same frustration. Though I think Kotengu said 8" plates at 100 and 150(?), I was able to make the hits on those plates at this match. You all really need to come up some time. It might not be a FAL match, but it could be a squad of FAL's.

Unwritten rule among knights is that dicks at the range end up holding targets while the rest of us shoot. Dicks at the house end up in the lake. Of course, sometimes good guys end up in the lake too, but that's mostly voluntary.

And we have a wizard - that's got to count for something, right?

I would very much like to come and try these matches. Like Matt, I am peanut-butter-jelly over the range itself! Any comments I make about shooting are meant to be helpful, not self-aggrandizing. As Matt says, 'the way is in training', the best things I have learned that helped the most were the things I saw that I didn't understand, and had to think about, but seemed to work anyway.

Every year I trick about 30 people into coming to Georgia and showing me how to shoot. It's a pretty effective trick.

All kidding aside, there has never been a fight at the after-match party.

If there ever is I will be unbearably sad.

Agreed - it amazes me the high percentage of good people we have show up for this event and this hobby, given the seemingly low percentage of good people in the world in general. I can't EVER see this thing going sideways. Even if one of us gets a little exuberant with drink, a simple look from another is enough to help us realize we've taken things a bit too far and immediately settle back down with dignity and humility.

El can probably explain how this works with great insight and eloquence, but all I can do is recognize that it is. And be thankful I have stumbled upon it.

Are there any hints on some of the "specialty targets" that are going to be used this year - like the index cards used last year???

I did not post this after receiving my Leupold scope from being repaired, but the same day it was sighted in just for kicks fired at one of the index cards at 100 yards and kept 7 or 8 rounds out of 10 on the card.
I did not think the rifle was that accurate.. I am wondering just how long the scope had been broken..

I'm late to the party this year, first page though! Can't wait to see all of y'all again this year and maybe actually hit some targets. I finally gave in and got my vision checked, I wear prisms now, prolly an inch thick. That should help a bit

Open sights

Yesterday afternoon went to a buddy's range just to re-verify sights before opening day of deer season next weekend.

For various reasons related to 50 y/o eyes and rear sight aperture size, I have had to come to terms with being limited to my Garand or my Brit L1A1 if I want to kill a deer with a "battle rifle".

With both of those I can hold a 3" group at 50 yards and mostly an 8" group (with a couple of flyers) at 100 yards. Those are "kill shots" and I can do them confidently and repeatedly. Past 100 yards however, they will have to walk

My #1 goal is to first put the wife on a deer, but after she gets her's, I will be "all in"

Will the prisms help the magazine latch?

Hehe, nope. Only the great airborne ranger in the sky watching over me has that kind of power. Pretty sure the mag latch is optional

For real though, I sorted that problem. Got the old brain and eyes serviced too. I should be ready to give the slackers a run for their money this year!

Hot damn. Since I used the IMBEL last year and did pretty darn good, it will be coming along for the show. I'll see if I can come up with some stuff for the prize table.

Stimp, seeing as it is awful close to the Okie-run-n-gun, you gonna have a "Wheelchair Class" for this year? Some of us are gonna need it!

If you have not accepted a donation for the 2nd place Shlomo trophy, I would like to donate this. It is a 1/3rd scale mold of an R1 rifle.

Definitely! I have 2 of them...

And another 2 full size ones that weigh about 60 pounds each and will probably stay in South Africa indefinitely..

This. Times ten! Of course, "Anonymous" donated a RIFLE last year, so excellent trophies are getting to be the norm around here. We have some very kind and generous people that come to this match.

But my best reward is still getting to shoot and hang out with everyone.

That could be because I never actually win a damn trophy!

OK Danie, many thanks!

I will probably get a small trophy plate made to affix to it with mike's image on it and the details about the trophy place and date. Can you send me a note detailing the dimensions?

'In' for Page 1 and for the match.

So I was thinking that I'd shoot a rifle I left in the general vicinity of the match, but I'd like to check zero when I show up. If we are showing up the day before to help set up, can we shoot a few rounds?

If not, that is not a problem - just wondering if there's a chance to pull the trigger a couple of times.

We always do some testing of the swinging plates after setup is done...to make sure they work properly. Honestly I am shocked that you would think we wouldn't take this simple testing precaution.

Yes, it's all a game. I'm shooting a rifle that I already *know* isn't as accurate as the one I have used in the past, and have left in storage down south.

Cuz I want to win.

Goody. Set up is Friday before the Ruby Tuesday meet-up, right?
