Cant wait to see my Imbel. Ive got a running group of friends up here that are chomping on the bit to see the camo....

This was such a great idea. How many of these do you think you have done over the years?

The kit made it really easy to do, plus you can distress it as much or as little(or none) as you want.

As a side note the only thing that i didn't do was clean any oil or grease off of my rifle YMMV

I have a question. In your quest for the perfect faux, have you ever done the Rhodie treatment over worn park (de-oiled) instead of fresh park or Metacol? Does this affect the end product, and how so?

black as a base coat has been more common, but yes, you can do it over any clean surface. Have done parked ones. But most of the times these are builds. They spend a couple hours in the ultrasonic cleaner to get the crap out. The removes a lot of the original paint. And it's a new receiver - it's easier to park or paint the entire rifle and distress it, then to try to sut it selectively to match an existing paint. Which was crappily applied over a dirty finish and will come up off.
The one in the video was supposed to be park but the lower is a DSA alloy so I had to do in black.

Is there enough for more than one rifle? The paint cans look big enough for at max 2 if used sparingly.

Another user on here used to make them, but they came in paint bottles and were enough for one rifle.

As stated both in the ad and in the video, there is more than enough for two rifles and mags and accessories. As stated in the video, that was the 4th rifle I did off one set.

My bad, I skimmed over that part but snagged one before they're bound to go out of stock.

If anyone would like to use the rest of my set after I get my rifle back from sledgehammer, I'll throw it up on the pay it forward thread in the future.

There is no lock.

This could be the plot for a reboot we all want to see.

Some old Rhodesian merc that is down on his luck has his bike stolen. He then goes on a Big Adventure sorting out anybody who gets in his way on his quest to find it.

If I just wanted to use the colors to do a regular paint job (just picking the Rhodie colors instead of tan and green, or whatever other colors available for modern spray paints like the Krylon camo paint) and was not looking to distress the paint finish, but just wanted to eliminate the sheen as much as possible, what would be the best way to go about that?

3m Kitchen green scratchy pad. Light pressure will remove sheen. Heavy pressure will start to remove paint. Consider it 400 grit sandpaper with more flexibility (now included in my paint sets - how's that for guerilla marketing?). THe red pads are more aggressive but also deteriorate faster.

Am I correct to assume that the trash bag thing does not need to be done on a paint finish that's not going to be distressed or made to look highly improvised?

Correct. The trash bag turns brush application into something that looks like it was applied with rags, and removes some of the finish. You may still want to lightly buff with scratchy pad to remove some of the sheen.

I just removed the shine with a foam sanding pad, but otherwise left the paint intact.
