shooting bag or box

Putting together a better shooting bag because I just don't like the way mine has morphed into a monster. Intention of the bag is to be able to have all the gear I need to site in any fire arm I take out. What am I missing?

Targets in target slot

Spotting scope and stand

Staples and stapler

Gun cleaning kit, hand cleaner, rag

Tool kit extensive

Hearing protection

Small sandbag

Gloves

Shooting glasses

Also putting together a box for chronograph

Notebook

Pen

Pencil

Chrone with screens and rods

Tripod

Measuring tape

I want to just pick it up and go without additions so what am I missing?

Pasters/hole repair dots, masking tape and duct tape for those not so sticky, wet days, shooting glasses, medium and large sandbags, sun screen, bug sprays - skeeter, wasp, and fire ant type, shooting mat or piece of carpet for prone. And don't forget a magic marker or sharpie for marking the targets.

I've switched to beans in the bags, instead of sand.
I try to always remember big-assed markers. Different colors, too. And electric tape.

I shot with member eyeguy and a couple other filers in FL last Sunday. Eyeguy had a new range bag that was actually a tool bag with pockets around the sides. If he does not see this post and chime in, send him a PM for the brand name or pix. It looked handy as heck and is something I will likely go to myself. I don't know where his came from, but I have seen very similar bags at our local Lowes and in electrical supply houses.

Going to use separate bag for ammo and hand gun, my last bag ripped I had so much weight in it. Hoping to get set up with a tool bag in one hand and a gun bag in the other. I want a shoulder strap on each and the tool bags I have been looking at don't have a strap.

Thanks for the feedback.

Instead of staples, I use spray adhesive. Target shot to heck, spray a bit and slap another on. Easy peasy. I feel lucky that my truck is usually parked right near, so packing extra stuff isn’t a problem cuz there’s no hiking in. If so I take my sons atw(all terrain wagon) it’s a sweet radio flyer w/ big pneumatic tires on it. Works like a charm.

Small First Aid Kit. Bandaids etc. I have a small one in an old M16 mag pouch clipped on one end of my range bag, bandaids, eye wash, small bug spray and sunscreen, etc. On the other end of my bag, I have a dedicated GSW kit.....field dressings, burn pad, tourniquet, etc.

This.

You should keep a field bandage at a minimum in your range kit. Honestly a small IFAK with stuff for a GSW should always be with you and marked with a Red Cross. It might save a life, even your own.

no stapler ....... push pins, very rare for them to not work

when maintenance is required for the backstop I take a hammer & nails, 16d, double head fence nails and even roofing nails

when things get too crappy I take pressure treat boards & coated deck screws & cordless Milwaukee powertools

Wheels

Seriously - I have used several different types of carriers

One that I like is a folding Golf bag cart
(used from 2nd had store) - Like this

to which I mount a hard case for Golf Bags

The wheels of which are pathetic for most gun ranges unless it's all concrete pad/paths
Inside of which I put my rifles in soft cases
(depending upon the rifles you can get 4-5)

for all additional stuff I use a folding cart (Costco, Sam's club)

Though I see Big Five sporting goods has one with better wheels

Inside the wagon goes

Ammo boxes (holds magazines pre loaded off the range clock)

Tool box - Mine is a Plano fishing box 18" x 10" x 10" top access
3 trays (deep enough for AR15 bolt carrier) with movable dividers,
It's long enough for a flat screw drive that will undo stock bolts
the bottom compartment is large enough you can put in lots of stuff you'll need

5.11 large range bag for Pistols
- Usually keep several boxes of ammo (incase I forget the ammo can) 4-5 pistols in rugs/cases

Chrony folding Chronograph fits inside 30 caliber can (with extra battery)

Tripod for it collapses into package small enough length (18") to fit in several boxes including the long range camera box.

Long Range Camera Box is 20"x14"x7" from Harbor Freight

19" LED Monitor is mounted to inside of lid and rest of the case is foam cut for Camera, Transmitters, Battery, Tripod etc

One fabric shoulder bag which holds everything else
(laser range finder, Wind Velocity device, sand bags, etc)

Auto Jump Battery(s) to power Long range camera and TV(s)

I use a large roller pelican case right now for longguns. Still looking for a good solution for my ammo/handgun/accessories bag. I have bad shoulders so want something that rolls, but has a handle meant for normal height people not someone 4 ft like most of the small roller bags have.

Too much gear takes too long to set up.

Guns, ammo, magazines, targets, eye and ear protection, a few tools and a pirate telescope.

If you need first aid, hockey tape and super glue.

I built a small enclosed utility trailer and just leave the bulk of my range gear in it between trips. Just load up the guns and ammo, hitch the trailer and I'm on my way. Nearly everything I need is in the trailer whether I need it or not.

YMMV

No, that takes too much time away from the shooting. Did you see that brother putting the sandwich in with the pipe bombs?

Ha, that is an idea. I built a small enclosed trailer, like 3' by 4' by 2' high years ago for dive gear. I was mostly driving a car back then and needed the room in a trailer for gear as the car was full of (pretty dang cute) dive buddies. I quit diving (and cute dive buddies), but the trailer is still parked out back.
