Any luck on the boots? Www.Sierratradingpost.com Has a great selection of la sportiva, alico, scarpa at huge discounts. Just this past summer I picked up a pair of $300 Alico's for $109 shipped!

My last work boot purchase was for the Danner quarry boot. Less heel than the whites so better on flat ground/concrete. Good waterproofing. I got mine for right at $200 a few years ago so you might find them close to your price. It seems like all sturdy boots can get hot on 90 degree days especially on 275 degree asphalt. The Whites are good for me in heavy forest and dirt and standing around all day. Not that great hopping on rocks or long hot days on asphalt and they provide so much ankle support they transfer too much stress to my aging knees. The heel construction made it easy to add a 1/2" lift too. These are both sturdy work boots and you might want a softer boot for a lot of hiking or a pure hiking boot for big money. I'm big and heavy and you might get better advice from someone your same weight. That goes with the sage advice of walking a mile in a man's shoes to get to know him. |

I'm on my second pair of Blackhawk desert ops boots. I do believe they are the most comfortable lace-up boots I've ever worn. For the type of use I give them, they work really well.

I have Whites, Kenetreks and a pair of Chippewa's none are newer
than 10 years. You only have 1 pair of feet, and normally they don't rebuild feet. |

Also known to buy high dollar specialty boots on eBay. I know exact brand, model and size you prefer, hard to not buy a $300 to $500 pair of boots for under $100. Buy one particular brand from Europe made in 1/3 sizes for ice climbing and mountaineering. My feet are 9 3/4 not 9.5 or 10.0. Company went out of business but can find lots of my preferred cold weather boot on the European version of eBay and other sites in like new condition.

Redwing 1412 still USA, Waterproof, 8", wear like iron. Like slippers once broken in. retail for $300+, in an opportunistic buy they can be had for $200
I normally get 3-6 months out of boots, and it seems like many leak within a month. I had my previous pair of 1412s over 3 years, they still didn't leak. I replaced the insoles and laces a couple times. I had to get rid of them because of an issue involving a skunk(they were on the verge of needing resoled anyway). I just couldn't get the smell out. |

Just saw a very nice pair of older Danner hikers at Goodwill today, for I think 7.99. They looked like new. Were the older Alpine-style hikers,Vibram soles.
Size was small..like 6 or thereabouts. Damn..Damn..damn.. |

I've been using Matterhorn for quite some time. I'll give Danner a try.
