Damn,

Time flys. AUGs still look futuristic.

Ain't no two ways about that brother. I remember well where I was and what I was doing in 1977.

If you live outside the land of the free, i might consider it...
Especialy the L85 and FAMAS in full auto are very rare in civilian hands.
Mine came from the Dutch Army trials

A picture of one of the receivers was posted on another board today. I'm trying to get more details.

Welcome in Belgium.

So, you reaaaaally want a L85?

I never seen such a piece of sh$t in my life. People are dying due to this amount of stupidness.
Boy, this is an insane and shamefull disaster...
You will prefer a STGW44 above this thing.

The FAMAS is also a dumb chauvinistic piece of crap. At least it functions a bit.

My 2 cents
STEYR is far better as the L85, F1 and F2000

Paco-

I'm curious- Why do you like the Steyr over the F2000? I'm very interested in your feedback on the F2000. I know it didn't last long in production but don't really know anything more than that. The concept sounded very smart- especially since I'm a lefty.

Also- are the old special receivers that had a low scope mount and the old A1 style cocking handle anything special? Are they still in use anymore?

The F2000 is very bulky. I used it several time in the army and i don't like it.
If the rifle has a jam it is very complicated to clear it. You need to lift that little trapdoor. There is nearly no space for your fingers or a leatherman to insert. So if it is stuck, you are screwed.

Also the 40mmgrenadelaucher user plastic flip sights. They brake easely.
The recoil to keep it fast on target is nog great. The triggerpull is also not impressive.
It will not take long until somebody fires a 40mm round in the flour. Check out the location and size of the gren trigger...

Oeps, sorry

Looking cool is not the same a beeing cool

By today's standards the original AUG looks tame. However...

A few here will remember what a sensation it caused when first introduced --along with some consternation and many reservations about its strange, crustacean-like appearance. Commercially it was not a case of "love at first sight."

The cynics eventually got over it.

Also was tempted to get one......stayed with the old A3 M1....made it comfortable and to my liking.

Playing around with stuff from my loot chest.

Always looking out for what's comfortable and functional.

And one more....

A3's are the way to go. You can mount any optic and they take NATO mags.

Iím always amazed how the Austrians love to mount the big ole Aimpoint M2s on top rail of their scopes. Talk about zero cheek weld...

In fact, Iíve noticed a lot of European armed forces still love the older Aimpoint M2.

How decent is the original-style scope? I'm really interested in an AUG, but have no interest in Picatinny rails or aftermarket optics (my XCR checks those boxes).
