Nuttz how's your kiddo doing that had the soccer accident? I hadn't seen any updates unless I overlooked them by chance.

Thank you for asking. She is doing good. She had her surgery the week before last and they put all kinds of steel in her face. She was down for the count after the surgery for about a week but recovered pretty quick. She had her ENT follow up last Friday, got clearance, and was able to walk the graduation this past weekend. She got to wear makeup and was happy about that. Scaring is non exsistant where they worked on the lower socket, incision was in the outer crease of the eye. They did the cheek fusion plate work through her gums and installed the plates that way. I was surprised how quickly the bruising and swelling subsided (she looked like an MMA fighter that lost, badly!!!).

Yeah, if she's as tough as her dad, she'll probably laugh, lift up her lip, and say "check this scar out."

Hahaha! Has he shown you his titanium too? If you're lucky, that's all you'll see.

Glad she's on the mend, and I hate it that she has to be on the mend. I have a daughter, and if I could take her pain I'd do it in a heartbeat. I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch yours go through something like this.

Did another long run last night (going to try for one long run a week out of the 25-35 mile per week I've been doing lately).

11.11 miles, 1:47 mins, 9:38 min/pace. I feel pretty good about that. IF you told me in March I would be able to do that in June I would have been like, lol riiiiight. Thanks for the awesome support guys. The weather helped a lot, it was only in the 80's here last night.

TK, how many miles you put on a set of running shoes before you retire them? Knees been a touch sore at the end of long runs lately (but ok next day). Not sure if just because of more mileage or three months of pavement compromising shoes.

^^^Awesome^^^

Spent all day Monday in airports and on planes and did a steady 3 on the treadmill last night at 7:50 pace. Gonna try a long run tonight.

P.S. Al doesn't wear shoes, he wears "Jerusalem Cruisers" (Jesus Cleats).

Nuttz - I'm glad the daughter is well. That's a bunch of surgery and stuff - gotta love modern medicine and good surgeons.

Thank you good Sir and thank you all for your thoughts! The whole ordeal was scary from the injury through the surgery and then recovery. She's a tough one and it surprises me still how fast she bounced back:

May 21st - about an hour after she got slide tackled:

May 31st - going in for the surgery:

May 31st - way home from surgery:

June 11th - graduation:

Did 5 one mile sprints (8.5, 8.4, 8.3, 8.2, 8.1 mph) last night on the treadmill with a mile jog at 6mph (10:00min/mile pace) after each sprint. Legs were tight today so I did a steady 6 miles tonight at an 8:30min/mile pace to loosen up.

I was going to ask how such a pretty girl sprung from the loins of the likes of Nuttz, but I am too polite when sober (good thing I'm not sober at the moment!), and have met his beautiful wife.

Outfreaking standing recovery, and I am both amazed and not surprised at all (knowing what I know of Nuttz and his family). And truly thankful for modern medicine.

Edit: Why "TN"? I agree Tennessee is great and all, but she should be worried about bigger things pre and post surgery.

And I waver between not feeling worthy to post in this thread (since I'm not attending the July Run N Gun), and feeling OBLIGATED to post in this thread for some reason -

I've done nothing for a month while I worked on various projects, travelled, and recovered. Monday was day 1 back on the bodyweight/HIIT workout with upper body/push stuff (one-armed push-ups, handstand push-ups, etc), and yesterday was leg day (one-legged squats, box jumps, iron mikes, etc). And damn am I sore today.

And it feels SOOOO good...

Well, I don't run in shoes (haven't for about two years) - the standard answer is "500 miles", though.

When I did run in conventional footwear, I ran in lightweight boots. I'm gonna say the "500" miles answer is nonsense. Depending on your gait, your foot/calf/legs....it may be more, may be less.

I highly recommend getting your running style evaluated. Doesn't cost much (around 35 bucks, I think). Running stores like Runner's World can usually help you out. They'll put you on treadmill for a mile or so, and watch your stride.

Increasing mileage, more pavement, worn shoes, poor running form (usually manifested after you get tired) - all can lead to knee, foot, or back pain. Check it out before you develop a problem!

Cross training day yesterday In the morning ran 2 miles @ 7:47, then went into the gym to pick heavy things up and put them down again. Later that day ran 2 miles to the park, played flag football for 2 hours, and then ran 2 miles back home.

oh and guess what ya girl got a TOUCHDOWNNNNNNN caught a short pass and ran it in from half field.

^^^Motivating^^^

Haven not run since last Thursday so I went out today and did the work run route with elevation and pushed a little harder. It was a nice 82 degrees and about 40% humidity. Felt pretty good. Going to do the Sledge/Tire workout tomorrow.

Nice, I did 6.9 yesterday at a 9:10 pace. The last 2 miles uphill killed me overall average (well, the last .9 is a gradual downhill and I pulled a 8:22) You inspire me.

I'm wondering, if I train harder, how fast can I run a 10 k with 35 lbs of gear?

I need to work on my shooting.

You're a beast. Good luck. And don't forget to taper.

That's a good pace. I'm thinking of incorporating some speed work. My buddy just ran a marathon and qualified for Boston at a 7:30 pace.

I hate running, but I do it because I suck at it. If you don't work on your weaknesses, they remain so.

You're a beast, and a beauty. Good on you for being both.

Did the Sledge/Tire/Ammo-can workout hard yesterday after the 5miles at work on Tuesday (didn't realize then, that was the fastest I have run that 5mile route). Figured legs (and the rest of me) were sore enough to tackle another 10miler today, and besides it was around 93degrees with 48% humidity today (compared to my last 10miler on the 8th when it was 70degrees and pleasant). What could be better but even more Suck, huh???!!! Well I am happy with the time and pace but Holy F@ck was it brutal!

Please tell me you jumped in the water at some point in this brutal run! If I ran so close to a beach, I'd end up swimming way more than running.

Luckily, I run close to a cow pasture - so my only danger is mooing.

That is the Potomac River . I think the cow pasture is cleaner!

Good run, Jimmy! I hit the trails for about six miles yesterday, didn't make that pace, though!

Got RO assignments and stuff done. Going to Pawnee on the Fourth to square away stages. (some we have to wait til last minute, cows and such, ya know)

Looks like about 17 retards (including myself) are going to do the 20K. Well, 17 are supposed to do a 20K.....FOG and I were reckoning there will be a few that don't want that second lap, and that's OK. I do not want anyone to get heat stroke.

Put in a bit more practice yesterday albeit a different kind...did my first long range match. What a hoot! I shot my 6.5CM that I posted about before in this thread. It was an 8 stage match, 10 shots per stage with a 90 sec par time. The prone stages weren't so bad, but man the ones where we had to balance off of logs, trucks, and other props were tricky (even though I've practiced)...it was tough to get into a good solid position and still pull off ten shots before hitting the buzzer. Especially since there were no sight pictures/etc allowed before your turn. I finished 41/58 and managed to not do anything stupid during the match, so I think that's good for my first time out

Here's one of the stages. We were shooting off of this huge platform/deck thing, prone. You shot 300/950/500/900/700 yd targets, in that order, two shots each. The video doesn't show my first three shots (hits at 300, 300 & 950). This was fun because you had to really dial back and forth to move in and out. Definitely a stage where holdovers would save you a ton of time, however since we were shooting from an easy position, very few timed out here anyway. On this stage I made 7/10 shots. I missed the second one at 950, 1 at 900, and 1 at 700. I had a lot of issues with double feeding towards the end of the mag (with 1 or two rounds left), it happened about 3x to me that day Not sure if it's just too new and tight or what. But...if there is anything I have learned from 3 gunning/shooting older guns it is how to deal with a malfunction or five LOL.

Was this a PRS match? I've been tempted to try that, but afraid to start yet another hobby.

Yep http://ambushactionseries.com/absolu...sniper-matches

And yes I found another way to turn money into smoke and noise (LOL my friend says that).

I really really liked it. I need to keep 3 gunning bc I'm committed to ft benning now, but I think after that I will probably transition more into the PRS stuff. Especially since a lot of it will transfer over to the adventure/sniper match things I want to do (like the mammoth deal in KY or the crazy thing brunop is doing).

Also, ran/rucked 4 mile yesterday with game-day attire. I felt like shit, I ate a lot of garbage this weekend to celebrate after the match and washed it down with too much beer.

Guys, what are you carrying and what % of your body weight is it? I asked on the OK forum too because I'm curious.

I used my new Blackhawk drop leg holster for the first time yesterday - love that. I didn't want my pistol on my waist bc I figured I'd bang it with my elbows when I ran. This is pretty comfortable. Serpa lock through the trigger guard keeps the pistol nice and still also. I made a couple other changes - put my hair in a braid instead of a ponytail (much better not having to peel it off my sweaty neck the whole time), also switched to a polo shirt instead of the under armor/etc shirts I usually wear to work out. Less slippery so the pack stayed more stable, also the higher neck kept me from getting chaffed. Win-win. I'm wearing pants, y'all doing shorts or pants?

I will be pretty much running the gear and setup you see in these pictures/videos. The only change I have made is the water bottle carriers. I upgraded to HSGI 40mm grenade taco-pouches. The ones that came with the Nathan water bottles were a little flimsy and I was worried they would holdup.

...I am wearing shorts and t-shirt and slinging rifle single point. Not sure weight of gear and ratio yet but will try to get the specifics next weekend. Still contemplating total magazine count for me too?

Stats from my 5k - not exactly the same, but should give you a rough idea:

The fastest runner finished in 53 minutes and carried 10% of his bodyweight. The average competitor (overall) carried 13% of their bodyweight. The lightest weight carried was 6% of the runner's bodyweight, and the Mule carried SIXTY-FRIGGEN-TWO percent of his.

The competitors shooting 308 and larger averaged 13% of their bodyweight as well, so that pretty much kills everybody's excuses on BOTH sides of that argument!

And the females on average carried 14% of their bodyweight, so they made us men look like a bunch of, well, sissies.

You'll be lucky if Nuttz wears pants!

Carried my gear for 10k yesterday.

Nothing fast, had David in tow.

Roughly 30 pounds.

Since shooting a bolt, I'll bring twice the rifle count.

Pistol count 75 rounds.

If I can find a 5.11 tactical duty kilt in my size. That's what I'll be wearing.

Should save me a few pounds in sweat soaked colthes.

This is very helpful, thanks. I am sitting at 25% right now...this is way over.

What's a .308 AR platform type gas gun weigh anyway? I know the garand is heavier at 9-10lbs but wasn't sure if it would be all that much more. My 1911 is heavy too with the metal frame/etc. Other than choosing different firearms next time I'm not sure where else I can skimp. I know my pack alone weighs like 4lbs but it's pretty comfortable and I didn't want to sling carry.
