Help with Argentine L1A1 charging handle not folding....

So just bought/traded a like new glock 34 with TLR1 and 250 cash for an early 80s Argentine L1A1. Gun is in great shape. Got 10 20 rd like new mags too.

When you release the charging handle, it flies forward and the bold closes and locks. However, the handle does not fold forward. It looks like it is not possible. Not sure if the previous owner changed it or not. It does noy look like the handle would ever lock, as when all the way forward it still has some distance to go to fold.

Any ideas? Can take pics later and try to post them.

Appreciate it guys.

Oh, its reciever is FMAP marked and it has an L1A1 flash suppressor mounted. Excited about it.

Just get a Metric charge handle. Other options is to have someone cut the Argy receiver to accept the folding CH or maybe Mountainman can fix you up with a folding CH for the Argy upper.

Did the charging handle slot get crushed by the receiver wrench when assembled?

L1A1 receivers are cut for the folding CH. It sounds like yours is not. DSA has a solution if you want to go that route.

Do not modify the FMAP receiver. They are hard to come by and get a real nice price. Mountainman had some that worked with metric receivers. I have 2, to me the folder is good for carrying across your back when hiking. I'm not all that crazy about them when actually using one because they are rough on your index finger.

charger

If you are handy with tools ,its fairly easy to remove and replace the charging handle.
open the rifle remove the bolt and carrier also cocking the hammer back., then slide the top cover back and out of the receiver.
looking from the top of the rifle there is a pin just behind where the lever folds take a proper sized punch an remove that pin.
Again behind where the lever folds you will see a rectangular piece that goes into the slide , you will see where it passes into the receiver - push it to the left and out of the slide.
Note : look at its shaft - there is a partial circular cut in the shaft.
When you replace it make sure the cut is towards where the pin passes through the cocking handle before replacing the pin.
At this point just slide the cocking lever out to the rear.
Reassembly is just reversing these instructions.
630 338 7090 if you have any troubles.
I would recommend buying a Mountain man cocking lever to replace the one on your gun.

This. The earlier Argy import thumbholes were not cut for the folding handle or for the tabbed receiver cover. 1989-1990

Will also need the mag catch spring pocket enlarged.

Later ones had the handle knob cut. Wasn't until the IMBELs I think, that they did the top cover cut and the charge handle cut. Some of those also had the mag well cut. THey never did the spring pocket.

i have some of those lybian metric beaked mags with inch floor plates that are neat to use on a gun like this, with a metric cut mag well on an inch kit.

the receiver is worth $600 or so, alone. consider replacing it with an inch cut receiver, and sellign hte FMAP that is on your gun.
