I understand shooting the 9mm version...9x19...

I never really need an excuse to shoot my 9mm HP.

What do you do if you have a 40S&W version as well?

That one only comes out every few years, it likes sleeping in the gun safe, watching TV, drinking beer, etc... that one has it made.

you sit alone in the dark and regret the money you wasted on a gun that should never have existed...

I want to add a 40 Hi Power to the collection but not tripped across right deal yet. Just the fact it exists is reason enough for me to buy one. Collections need to be as well rounded as possible. I am not big on 9mm except for Hi Powers or sub guns. 40 makes major, 9mm does not. My 40 SIG's have been carried more than my 1911's past three years. For 30 years I carried a 45 acp 1911 almost daily and was anti poly and anti 40 till tripped across a screaming deal on SIG 40. Stopped by Walmart and picked up a 250 round value pack of 40 Smith ammo on way back to work, ran all 250 through gun, went back to gun shop and bought the other they had, ran 250 through it and now have more than I can count. Even added several in 9mm if price is right.

I didn't realize that for some reason people hate the 40S&W so much....

To me it is a "hot rod" version of a classic design.

for those haters, I bought it brand new about 10 years ago for about $350... If I wanted another 9mm, there are replacement barrels.

For me, it is a cool firearm that I do not shoot very often and if I needed some cash I know HP's go for stupid high money compared to when I picked up my 9mm and 40S&W version.

When is "Shoot Your Hi-Point" day? I don't have a hi-power, and can get into a Hi-Point cheaper.

In Chicago everyday is "shoot anything that moves day"

A very sad place to live it seems.

Body armor should not be a requirement to go to the store to get milk and bread.

Hi Powers have a very special place in my heart. One spent time with me in a few places that I should not have been sent to over 40 years ago. That said I carry one with me. It kept me alive then I see no reason it won't now.

Same here. Mine went all over Europe with me and to the ME. Very dependable gun and just about as good as any Glock 17 / 19.

I feel the same about my 9mm HP.

The 40S&W is the Hot Rod, on steroids version.

I will never part with either one.

Very Happy I found them when they did not cost their weight in gold.

I have four High Powers in the safe. In three different calibers. A 7.65mm Parabellum made for the Italian market. Two 9mm's. One .40 S&W with the adjustable Millet rear sight.

Beautiful weapons and a joy to shoot. Last night I field stripped my 9mm Practical and wiped it down and applied some fresh BreakFree to the slide rails and the interior of the slide.

It is a pity that FN dropped the HP from production but it had to happen some day. An expensive pistol to produce and it is just impossible to compete evenly price wise with the current crop of poly framed pistols available today.

And so it goes.

I might like buying a .40 HiPower some day and re-barreling it to 9mm. It has been done before. Makes for a very solid pistol.

For a .40 to 9 conversion, Bar-sto makes a three lug barrel needed and you'd need a 9mm ejector from what I remember reading from Stephen Camp.

I like my .40 though.

Didnt know FN dropped production.

I bought the Mark II HP .30 Luger back in 1989 for $400 plus tax. I thought that I would obtain a 9mm Luger barrel for it and be able to shoot both rounds with just a barrel change.

But when I field stripped the HP I realized that it couldn't be done. The .30 Luger barrel was considerably smaller in diameter than the 9mm barrel. And the interior of the slide did not have the necessary room for the 9mm barrel. Apparently the Italians did not want to have these HP's easily converted to 9mm.

I bought a Mark III 9mm Standard Model for $500 (the good old days price wise) and then the Mark III .40 and then the 9mm Practical. I went looking for one of the El Capitan's with the 500 meter tangent rear sight but never did find one at a price I was willing to pay. I wonder what one would be worth today....

And so it goes.

They are addictive.

I was shocked a few months ago when I went looking for an HP for my son, way to expensive for a first pistol now.

To bad you need to sell body organs now to afford them.
