FAL handguards

Greetings to all. A buddy at work and I have been discussing the relative merits of ARs vs. gas pistons, which prompted me to drag the Daewoo DR 200out of the safe. I never much liked the factory handguards and managed to burn myself the one time I shot the rifle.

I read with interest about fitting a set of FAL guards. I am not into quad rails or would consider the Stormwerkz. DS arms has a "Belgian" style set and Argentine mil-specs. Any experience on fitting these paricular models to the Woo?

I own a dremel, but that is it for the handtools. I will certainly post again when I get to the range. How does 40 grain varmint ammo shoot? The 55 grain shot well. Don

I took an extra set of beat up ones and where the sling swivel is I slotted the bottom and they fit perfect.
40 gr. should work but i'd try a small qty. first.

I've got a set of Penguin handguards on mine, and it shoots Hornady 45 grain V-Max bullets very well.

Penguin is the maker. They made basic and premium parts, the premium ones being better. I'd rather cut up a pair of Penguins than a set of original SA or Imbels.
Welcome to the addiction by the way. You will be assimilated, resistance is futile.

Fal handguards

I was an easy sale in the day. Price was right, and I knew about the design defects of the AR family. Eugene Stoner's name will live in infamy.

One story to get the ball rolling. I was at the range with 3 pals with ARs. I handed off my gun to the best shooter and he pronounced it low at 100 yards. We changed targets and I made the best shot of my life. Dead center at 100 yards with open sights. Needless to say I rolled that one up to take home.

I don't see any other 223 in my future. Don

I put some NBC Imbel ones on a 200. Only mod was to remove the sling swivel since I didn't want to cut the handguards.

Not mine, but here's another example with what appear to be Century STG knockoff plastic handguards.

Sorry, but that's not mine (and for the slow reply). Some guy on ARF.com is selling it.

I just picked up a 512 for my Daewoo Blackmore.
I've got the Stormwerks low rail as you appear to also ?

I haven't sighted it yet but the hologram appears like it MIGHT rest on top of, or maybe slightly in to the front sight ?

How does yours work out ?

Or, should I break down and order the higher rail now ?

The low rail provided a good cheek weld so I didn't try to switch to the high rail. The front sight didn't bother me the few times I shot it. Moses has the rifle now so I can't check.

I think most guys are using the low pro stormworkz mount with the 512. I'll have to put my 512 on my Dr200 tomorrow and see how it looks.

How do you like that low-rail? It looks awesome, but I've heard that it can catch your hand while charging the rifle. What's the verdict?

cheers,
v
