While I was able to find more Pre-B units at a gun show, I have found that SP-01 mags functioned great in my 1991.

I've had problems finding mags that work in my pre-B 75 also. What I've done is take the frame to gun shows to check mags out on the spot.

I don't think B/pre-B is your problem. If later mags fit your magwell, but just don't drop free, then earlier mags won't help. The CZ is designed to NOT drop free. There's a spring in there that applies pressure to the ejected mag to keep it in the gun until physically removed. CZ sells a drop-free spring replacement.

Some discussion,...........

And the part,.........

Actually pre-B 75 have a somewhat different mag well spec. It's not that current 75 mags won't "drop free", you will probably need to take the top end off and hammer them out of the well.
I have found that Mec-gar 15 rounders work in my pre-B 75 and 85, but the 16 rounders won't. I'm guessing the former are OEM tubes for CZ, made by Mec-gar. Also check with CZ-USA, they have the correct mags from time to time as well.
I've _heard_ that the Swiss TZ-75 mags fit, but they are as hard to find as the real deal now. I think the local shop has a SP-01, maybe they'll let me try a mag in my 75 and I'll relay the results. This would make life a lot easier for use Pre-B guys.

Anything for the Action Arms CZ clones will work as well, IME.

Another option would be to modify the mag well on your pre-B to accept later 75B magazines, which are much cheaper and more plentiful. Well-known CZ gunsmith Jim Miossi performs this service (along with many others) but the modification is quite straightforward and requires only modest WECSOG skills if you want to do it yourself http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=39056

OK just to add fuel to the fire, I was gonna do a little surgery on my pre-B 75's and85's, since I'm tired of dinking around with finding a mag here, a mag there. Had to order some stuff from Midway anyway so I ordered up a Mec-gar mag with which to do the spotting in for the surgery. It was Midway #918412 Mec-gar magazine cCZ 75 9mm Luger 16 round/steel blue. UPC is 765595440357. Just received it today, and it fits as good as the orginal 1992 vintage mags I have. Gonna order 10 more tomorrow and get'er done. There is a silver sticker on the front that states CZ 75B 9mm, but obviously it fits my 90's vintage pre-B's as well. Interestingly, the ones I ordered from CDNN about 3 years ago fit as well. Not claiming complete success in the earliest pre-B's, but it looks like I've solved my problem without opening the mag well.
