Drones & Survival Applications

A couple of years ago I had problems with drones flying around my house. Posted about it on site and we discussed it somewhat. In the months and now years since this became an issue (turned out it was kids at the church a few hundred yards from house) I have learned a lot about drones and own a few. Now the Russian military is getting a hard lesson in how hobby level home built drones can be weaponized and used to attack even Russian Airfields and aircraft.

https://www.economist.com/news/scien...ade-drones-now

I no own several drones. First was bought to learn best way to down them legally as when called the Sheriffs Office the deputies that came to house said I could not shoot them with my 20 gauge over & under. Drones were basically protected to fly about anywhere under the same laws as VHF aircraft and can't be shooting at Cessna's and Piper's flying over the house. Checked with FAA and FCC and were a lot of rules protecting the drones.

What upset me was one had a GoPro camera mounted and was flying around the house looking in second floor windows that we normally don't close blinds as closest neighbors behind us are 600 to 800 yards across back of property, Corp of Engineers property, lake and the Corp property on other side of lake. From the lake its virtually impossible to see in either. Have tried it using binoculars, scopes, etc. due to terrain rise from lake level at full pool looking up toward back of house have to have better than 20x to see in window and angle only allows someone to see the ceiling, not in rooms until they design an optic that curves light and space significantly.

My first active line of defense was to have my drone accidentally crash into any drones flying inside my fence line. On purpose would be illegal was informed so learned to fly my drone but not real well so when drones appeared if sent mine to investigate my poor flying skills might result in accident. Then I determined I could legally wash out the 2.1 to 2.4 GHz band testing my frequency jammer or just using a WiFi router legally hacked into the 2 GHz portion of ham bands and run it through an amplifier as enough power into a WiFi router will wash out the little buggers if running off 2 GHz WiFi.

The better drones cold swap over to 5 GHz or even run in the RC Hobby frequencies and avoid that tactic so purchased a wide frequency radio frequency jammer that ran from HF to past 10 GHz. It had very limited range on certain frequencies but if have right amps and licenses could tap different antenna connectors with coax, pipe though appropriate amp and to an external omni-directional or directional antenna.

Learned a lot more about R.F. jammers and based on that knowledge know why they are so popular. Get correct jammer in correct frequency and can jam someones "Ring" wireless doorbell and other devices along with the now common WiFi based wireless home alarms. If you have fallen for the marketing of cheap home security you can install yourself it will only stop a dumb crook. Smart ones can wash your entire system with proper frequency jammer and none of the monitoring devices can talk to the control so it knows house has been violated. Sure some better ones have programming that recognizes has lost all its devices but if it starts calling police and falsing regularly they will stop dispatching promptly.

If I were attacking a really good target protected with one of the new SimpliSafe systems would test to see if washing its spectrum out sent an alert. If it did based on how good someones stuff was and how bad I wanted might wash it and cause it to false every time they left home for a week or two till local cops got tired of rushing to the scene. Then when realized they quit coming (my jurisdiction has a set number of faults and they bill you for every response after that then a large number after which they no longer respond to the loopy alarm) would wash the thing and take what I wanted. Proper recon and you know how long most people will be gone and when house is totally unoccupied.

The Ring and SimpliSafe protected homes of friends I know and let me play all now have wired alarms with panel that talks though copper wire pair and cellular backup. Have washed all I tried thus far but imagine due to jammers the makers are working on and installing safeguards to limit R.F. attacks with time. Takes a darn good jammer, not a little $399 unit but I have several now. one big broad spectrum jammer with over a dozen antennas on top and if put in van or truck and pull in someones driveway wash everything from their broadcast t.v. to 5 GHz WiFi and higher frequency devices.

Can also drop drones out of the sky with ease no matter what frequency. Can be quite entertaining in the right environment. Have two smaller jammers where have attached amps to antennas that cover frequency need to wash past my fence line. First time I dropped a drone from the church kids it was the nice one with the GoPro. Used a microwave Magnatron tube and aluminum pipe to direct the signal toward the drone as it came by second story window. copied the video as proof they were looking in widows of my house which is illegal.

Returned drone to Children's Pastor, told him my issue and knew he was trying to entertain kids but was tired of them looking in the windows of my house and showed him a clip loaded on my tablet. He did not know that kid was peeping with his drone, thought kids were playing a game seeing who could fly the farthest from and get back. Now they have to stay inside church property lines per rules placed by pastor. It did set off lots of ideas in my head and why I now have several drones including two that can fly my fence line and beyond watching live feed video for situational awareness. My wired camera system pretty much does the job but on occasion might want to see behind an object or other side of neighbors house without going outside.

Also learned how much payload certain drones could carry and most weight payload possible per dollar spent. Have some under $250 drones that will carry a big enough payload that if someone were behind cover could do an air-burst just over their head. Lose the drone but could save a lot of ammo in SHTF scenario and people were behind solid cover shooting at the house. I keep learning about the buggers, lift capacity and range per dollar spent and watch for sales when new models come out and get another one for the fleet. A drone with model rocket engines and a circuit to light the rocket can make all sorts of odd things happen. But as the Russians and our military has learned, anyone willing to sacrifice a few hundred to thousand dollars can have an eye in the sky or even ordinance delivery vehicle. Hobbies are so much fun, especially electronics.

How do you have time to do all this stuff?

Either you don't work...but you talk about your job so that can't be it, or you have evolved beyond the need for sleep. That must be it!

You have 24 hours a day to do cool stuff vs. the rest of us with a lousy 16 hours.

Thanks for the info, good to learn about the weakness of any systems I might have or get.

Talk about my sleep issues all the time. Have had Short Sleeper Syndrome since a kid. Till parents understood it made me lay in bed eight hours every night. By teen years I would sometimes go three nights without sleeping. That was back when James Clavell and Pat Conroy were popular authors. Bought Shogun as left school and had it read before left to go back next morning. Now I sleep from 1 to 3.5 hours per night max and have Complex Sleep Apnea compounding my sleep issues now.

Why am such a freak about backup power. I cannot sleep without my Bipap Auto Server Ventilator or may die. Have flat lined multiple times in sleep lab with one event lasting over three minutes and woke to nurse bagging me while another was warming up the defribullator paddles and started fighting them off. Sometimes I crash so hard the Bipap ASV machine can't keep me going or get me back breathing so loud alarm sounds to wake me up and soon as wake go back to breathing. If alarm doesn't wake me wife does.

Take the Short Sleeper Syndrome had since elementary school and Complex Sleep Apnea that began after fell off a cell tower and hit head first on concrete slab fracturing my skull. Soon after wife and climbing partners noticed would stop breathing for extended periods of time while sleeping. Among my regular climbing partners all stopped sharing a tent as said sleeping next to a dead man freaked them out too bad. They would wake up, especially above 15,000 feet altitude, and said I would be grey or blue till they poked me hard enough to wake up and would start breathing again. Got to where I stopped sleeping at high camps and just laid down and rested body a few hours each night.

So tonight I might go to bed between midnight and 2:00 am and will be wide awake in 90 minutes to three hours most nights. Some nights a half hour is all I get, others will actually sleep four entire hours but seldom. Can't pace the floors or watch t.v. as wakes wife. So spend a lot of time laying still and reading so at least body gets some rest. After tablet battery goes dead from surfing net will slip downstairs quietly and do reloading chores or work on electronics projects that don't make enough noise to wake wife. Why keep tumblers running most nights, wife has acclimated to the white noise and it masks some of my moving around in the basement. I wish I could get a real nights sleep without going into multiple serious hypopnea events which shut my breathing down long enough heart rate and blood oxygen level go so low alarms start going nuts.

I knew that had to be the explanation. I wish I could get by on less sleep.

I'm the opposite. I need 9 hours and if I don't get it, I can barely function my way through a work day.

A lot of times even after 9 hours I wake up and still feel exhausted. Getting old sucks and I'm not even THAT old yet.

On the other side of the fence I wish I could get eight hours, went to bed at 12:30 pm, took a bit to finally fall asleep and was back awake at 3:00 am. 2.5 hours sleep, laying in bed and will surf tablet dead then back down to basement. Eight hours would have to be wonderful. Only time I get real rest is under anesthesia. Was on ortho table 14.5 hours not counting initial prep work and closing everything up. Guy who reassembled leg worked a couple minute over 14.5 hours before the plastic surgeon closed all the holes for acess points and where the compound tib/fib fracture came out side of leg. Left me in induced coma two days waiting for surgeon who did the work to get to town. Except for leg I felt good waking up after 2.5 days sleep.

Checking files then will hit another few sights and smoke the battery looking for L2a1 gas blocks, ham radio gear and armor. Then it will be time to get out of bed.

I had chronic issues with insomnia.. would take forever to get to sleep and then once asleep I would wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning wide awake.. this went on for well over a decade or more..

Quit eating anything with sugar in it and all carbs about a year ago after listening to a podcast about how much sugars and carbs **** up your body.. pasta, bread, chips, rice.. and so on.. I can't eat anything in a convenience store. I sleep all night like a baby now, I also have dreams which I hardly ever remember having dreams before.. It's awesome! As an added benefit I don't get the mid afternoon crash.

It's impossible to find food without sugar these days. For instance, I make my own red marinara/pasta sauce (look at any jarred pasta sauce in the store, the second or third ingredient will be sugar yet I have yet to find any authentic Italian recipe that includes sugar) and put it over zucchini or spagetti squash noodles.. awesome stuff!

Have tried everything, been a vegetarian for over 20 years and most food is organic, non GMO on top of that. Do not eat snacks could find in convenience store and little junk except do have a 99 cent frozen pizza wakes but 90% of time eat as early morning snack before fix breakfast for wife and myself so 16 hours have passed since eat on before bedtime. Have adjusted diet multiple times to see if it will help but no alterations in food selection have ever helped.

Even tried a myriad of sleeping meds from the old school stuff like Xanax and diazapam to modern medications like ambient and Lunesta. Tried all the homeopathic and natural sleep remedies to no avail. When take prescription meds just go into regular sleep/wake cycles as without but have higher hypopnea event counts and when wake am loopy till they wear off. Issues are bad enough have been admitted to two sleep studies for trial meds and devices.

In addition to Bipap ASV also use a sleeping wedge which is a big foam ramp thats shaped and sized like the perfect bicycle jump ramp for kids. Starts at waste and slowly rises till head is about 18 inches above lower body. Sometimes if can't get to sleep at all have a second BiPap machine set up next to my recliner as often can sleep better sitting up. Have tried every kind of mattress, white noise machine along with every wives tail ever heard.

Went through three neurologists before found one that was able to stop the majority of extended hypopnea events where stop breathing for minutes. Usually between algorythm in BiPap ASV, sleeping wedge and the pulse oximeter that sounds the alarm when heart beat and blood oxygen level go near critical the life threatening events are very limited. Now majority of them happen in sleep lab when some tech tries adjust my pressures like am a normal patient. With the Short Sleeper Syndrome going back to childhood and Complex Apnea beginning following a major head trauma in which doctors hoped would get better farther I got from event not getting any better it's something I live with.

Last night actually slept longer than have in long time, went to bed at 11:00, got up at 12:30 out of growing bored looking at ceiling. Moved to recliner, put a very mellow DVD on the t.v. and put mask on from my other machine. Lost track of movie half way in and slept till alarm went off and could have slept longer but had to get moving to make out of state funeral. Reviewed data and looked like had slept almost four hours before alarm woke me and believe would have kept sleeping otherwise but worked super long day Friday and Saturday then late following church on Sunday so body was fatigued.

Exercise can help but have to do before 5 pm. If get on stationary bike, treadmill, go to gym, climb or anything late afternoon or early evening makes sleeping harder. If get a good session in before lunch then it can help on occasion. Older I get more I sleep as don't go multiple days without sleep as from middle school through college. Was getting to point four hours was reasonably common till cracked my skull and the apnea began within two weeks of event. Day of injury docs didn't want me to sleep for 24 to 48 hours which is common with head injuries. Put me in hospital and told overnight nursing staff when I began to fall asleep to wake me up immediately and give me some form of amphetamine if necessary. Were stunned when I was able easily stay awake and not nod off till second night and just a "wake up" from nurse brought me right back.

My guess is since high school have worked with over two dozen sleep specialists . Parents and doctors at time assumed they had to force me to sleep one way or another. Back in my late teens and into twenties tried to drink myself to sleep. Was only person in dorm that couldn't drink till passed out, just got to point couldn't function but was still awake so have just adapted to not sleeping much and learned to leverage by reading but still resting body by laying or sitting still even when awake at least a few hours. Have to rest or get to tired to walk.

Have you looked into surgery to ameliorate your sleep apnea? The laryngologist that gave me a second opinion on my left vocal chord surgery had some information, about surgucally repairing whatever is causing a person's sleep apnea.
There are also custom fitted mouthpieces that can help.

Tried the mouth pieces and no way am I doing surgery. Few get total relief from surgery and like many ENT sinus and other recommended surgeries are ways to fatten their wallet. Have Complex Sleep Apnea brought on from traumatic head injury. Crushed rear of skull which compounded broken C2/C3 vertebra along with brain stem that controls breathing along with hypothalamus and brain stem. It's been suspected some malfunction in hypothalamus was responsible for my Short Sleeper Syndrome but no sinus or similar surgery is going to fix Complex Sleep Apnea due to a brain injury. If I had Obstructure Sleep Apnea the mouth pieces and surgeries may be of some help.

Majority of folks sleep apnea is brought on from being fat. Too many Big Macks and super sized fires washed down with a soda and their weight causes obstructive apnea and then rather than admit their fat they chase surgical solutions as can't tolerate a Cpap or BiPap machine. By the time someone finds themselves on a BiPap Auto Server Ventilator they have some real issues that are not easily solved. My sleep specialist says my apnea is the worst of any patient in his practice or ever seen. On occasion they pull me in for a control patient on studies. Have been through a slew of specialists and most refuse to work with me after see my records.

Can't even find a normal sleep lab that will do my annual sleep study to adjust pressures or set up a new machine. Have to go into hospital where they park a crash cart next to my bed due to fact I always crash. Bet if review the data from few hours slept last night would see at least a couple life threatening hypopnea events as my alarm is what woke me. It only goes off when blood oxygen level and heart rate go into danger range from lack of oxygen. Doesn't really bother me as grown used to it, live with it and once the doctors have done all they can just leave it in God's hand and know he is in control.

Wife and I went to a family funeral yesterday where one of her cousins who was 53 died of undiagnosed sleep apnea. Anyone that snores to point it annoys others, especially if carrying a few extra pounds likely has obstructive sleep apnea, should get tested and know almost a dozen people who have died before 60 from it. Half were undiagnosed. Friends mother was going out of town for one night and didn't want to break down her Cpap, tote it with her, set up, break down bring home and set back up for a single night. Hotel staff found her dead in room next morning. If m have obstructive just losing weight can totally cure it, surgery or oral devices can mitigate or simple Cpap keep you breathing.

Even if doesn't kill someone in one big event, the stress on organs from spending all their sleeping hours with low oxygen and irregular breathing will shorten life. One thing am sure of is am going to die of something. Will it be sleep apnea, falling off ladder, not coming I UT from anesthesia from one of my regular nerve blocks or just old age only God knows but have best docs I can find and stay on top of latest advances to treat my ailments which most of my doctors say fact I am alive is proof that God makes that final decision.

Have a pair of smallish drones with 1/2 pound payload that came in a two pack kit for $244. They have a 1.2 mile range (half mile and pilot is usually disoriented) with 25 minute flight time and auto or emergency return to home. If it gets lots press emergency button and hope it doesn't have a forest between it and home. They are my experimental and camera drones. Other than fly, they do little else as designed to carry a moderate resolution camera which they are decent at but have to turn the drone to orient camera, no tilt and pan but at $100 each with inexpensive crash kits (all the spare parts you need when fly into tree or crash into ground hard) they have been good learning tools and with a couple spare batteries can hot swap and put back up fast while backups are charging.

For a grand you can buy a drone with 10 to 12 pound payload with approximate five mile range that is GPS capable, just enter GPS position and it flys there and avoids collisions. For $150 you can add an auto drop device. (Best $150 a drone pilot can own if drone can carry weight of drop device and intended payload) Been looking at one unit with 37 pound payload at $1,800 but drone features increase and prices drop so fast expect similar capabilities for under a grand in another year or two.

A company out of Switzerland has a drone that looks like a stealth bomber with one hour flight time and can survey up to 26 acres flying an overlapping flight path for eight grand. Way out of my price range but for 10,000 to 25,000 there are a lot of airplane style drones with fly by controller or set GPS path/destination and return unless it's delivering enough explosives you would prefer to never see it close to your location again. Anone can just order a few up, add payload (even half @$$ little countries could order them in hundreds or thousands) add ordinance of choice that detonates upon arrival at target. If they were to set up manufacturing without someone making a profit for research and development, marketing, buying groceries and paying rent could likely copy an existing design able to deliver a mine or mortor shell 20 miles or so for a few grand per unit.

Can see mounting a cut down 10/22 and flying close ground support with the airplane type. Five to eight grand will buy an "agricultural" drone for spraying pesticides with 15 to 25 pounds of liquid payload. Load one up with some nasty acid, let it spray on your zombies and watch them melt.

Check out these folks with camera, night vision and LIDAR surveillance:

http://www.pulseaero.com/

Currently have one drone that I would consider tactical, as a kit it retails for $799 and I purchased it crashed from original owner who built it, didn't have good work flow habits and had only flown toy drones inside. The "propeller blades" run $65 each and it has eight. Put it down sideways or upside down due to wind gust and if no other damage will need $200 to $400 in replacement blades. Has short and tall landing gear for use based on payload and after adding the tall gear and my auto drop device it can carry up to six pounds in perfect conditions but four pounds it can still buck a little wind and land safely on five motors if one crap out in flight. It's a folding drone so can be backpacked, has active track, avoidance systems, automatic fly to set GPS location, return to home and can fly by remote or autonomously. Paid the guy $275 (after he priced a $399 crash kit) fixed the landing gear myself, put all new balanced propulsion blades on it after tearing it completely down and rebuilding using all the screws and other hardware. (If you have a lot of extra parts after assembly of drone may have a problem)*

With my drop kit (on sale for $99) and all the parts purchased to fix it have under $500 in it and have not crashed it yet. Have used it to fly an Icom crossband handitalkie making it a remotely deployable repeater. Send it up 300 to 400 feet and put in auto hover mode then let the contacts roll. With four to five pound load it flys 20 to 25 minutes. With under a kilogram will fly 35ish minutes. At present my rule is $100 in cost per pound of payload. Most are more expensive but like guns find deals on forums and local RC club as people crash and quit or update to better drone and want to recoup some cash out of their previous top line model. Suggest buying a $99 drone with crash kit added to initial order as will crash day one, fly it till can't fly now more, repeat then upgrade. If you get hooked will discover all kinds of things can do only limited by budget and imagination. Believe if had to "bug in" ability to patrol area from comfort of my recliner would be much safer than a walkabout.

Have my drones and my anti drone defense system. Recently found shotgun shells that once leave bore they are segmented in eight pieces lengthwise designed to spread and stretch a net between them and military is buying a lot for testing as terrorists are using them more and more for patrolling an area looking for troops. Have found systems with these capabilities from handheld to hard mount weather proof autonomous that run 24/7 and do what owner programs or alerts you and let's you decide how to handle threat.

These folks make multiple systems from urban with 500 meter range to open desert wide spaces coverage. It's not cheap but really cool and if have need for a security team, probably need to give them this tool as well.

SkyDroner is a fast and effective anti-drone surveillance system designed to Detect, Distract and Disable any anonymous drone from flying into a protected area.* It consists of multiple sensors to monitor the range of radio signals and identify the different characteristics of a drone's signature.* SkyDroner can distract*the drone by taking over the command and control frequencies.* During an emergency,*it is capable of immobilizing the drone to prevent it from further intrusion.

DETECT
To monitor drone's activities within 1km range
To identify types of drones
To provide real time tracking of drone's flight path
To pinpoint location of drones and its operators

DISTRACT
To issue home command to return drone to its operator
To issue instruction to land drone at designated area

DISABLE
To disable the communication links to the drones

Have five home built area denial systems that work well but three require seeing the drone then using directional antenna to shut it down. Two have tendency to scramble their circuits. The two that are area specific are wide spectrum r.f. jammer that if ran 24/7 my neighbors WiFi and many electonic devices would never work. Also washes a lot of radio and cellular frequencies as well based on how many frequencies choose to jam but have overlapping transmitters that if choose can wipe everything from low band VHF like military and alphabet agencies use to cellular if want to kill wireless comms around the Ponderosa.

That said have found one anti drone system with a 1.3 mile range based on terrain that detects, tracks and if drone get inside of defined radius it can park it or force it to return to home. Wife hates the buggers and when they were flying around the house weekly looking in windows she begged me to shoot them. Once captured my first, figured out was coming from church down the road and showed video to children's pastor of inside my house he shut the kids down with no more flying off church property.

Have acquired a large quantity of bronze tinted Lexan MR10 abrasion resistant polycarbonate in 1/2 inch and swapped many of the interior mounted panels in the house which looking out appears to be light tint to our windows but in daylight appears bronze mirrored and can't see in unless lean against glass and block light from around eyes by cupping your hands and can somewhat see in. At night if don't close blinds, turn lights on so are back lighted then people can see in about as well if had standard window timt. Swapped two more this evening and have enough cut to do all ground floor windows already but go back to Shepard Spinal Center tomorrow so no swapping heavy ballistic polycarbonate for a few days.

Closed my deal and have more than enough 3/4" abrasion resistant polycarbonate sheets that are just big enough to cover all our standard size windows and due to thickness going to mount in steel frames and install on outside of house using same holes that our sort windows are attached. The will be one per bedroom and a few others that can release from inside and will hinge down and gets rid of the burglar bars or can use in conjection with so have mix of steel and polycarbonate plus locking shutters if time to deploy. Wife likes being able to keep blinds open, see out but know people can't see in, pitch concrete block through a window and come on in and relatively safe from handgun fire. With shutters and the new exterior polycarbonate should be rifle rated within Level 3 to 3+ and drones cannot see in unless have special filters on camera lenses.

If it gets lots press emergency button and hope it doesn't have a forest between it and home. They are my experimental and camera drones. Other than fly, they do little else as designed to carry a moderate resolution camera which they are decent at but have to turn the drone to orient camera, no tilt and pan but at $100 each with inexpensive crash kits (all the spare parts you need when fly into tree or crash into ground hard) they have been good learning tools and with a couple spare batteries can hot swap and put back up fast while backups are charging.

What model?

What are you doing to protect it from getting all foggy due to sun?

This is not cheap acrylic, its same thing they use in skyscrapers intend to last 50 years or more before replacement is even considered. I still service signs my dad used Lexan when he built them in the 1970's and about every decade or so I polish the stuff with Novus #1 but if client lets go for say 20 years and calls for service after looks bad might have to start with Novus #2 Fine Scratch Remover before the #1 cleaner & Polish. When you move from acrylics to abrasion resistant poycarbonates there is a reason for the $1,000 per sheet average price.

Scrap from some clear used for testing. Have windows that installed this when purchased the house 25 years ago and is still crystal clear.

This is another product I use when clients need UL 762 Level 5 certification:

Below is the bronze I used as liners inside that can be hinged open if need. It was a "unclaimed freight" purchase ordered by a company thet built armored trucks for the banking business and filed bankruptcy while in delivery so when freight company arrived their doors had been padlocked by bankruptcy court. Original shipper would not pay to have it sent back because it was paid for and already cut to customers size. Freight company sold it for cost of original freight tab plus cost to shp it to me. Got about $8,000 in DOT approved ballistic polycarbonate for about $500. It stops up to 9mm and .357 Mag in single sheet but I use it in conjunction with a second sheet of clear which guarantees all windows will stop any handgun.

When get the frames built and the heavy exterior installed my guess is windows will stop up to 7.62x39 and maybe 308 softpoint but will be iffy on 5.56. when get time to test the three pieces in a frame simulating how will be used at house will know real quickly what threats it will stop. When mix different brands and thicknesses actual "in-house" testing is only way to be sure and why I do so much of it. Back in the late 1960's and early 1970's the reps that sold this stuff would always show up with a pile of 12"x12" pieces and a 38 special typical police revolver of the day and shoot it to prove how tough it was to justify its price. Been fooling with acrylics and polycarbonates since I was a kid.

What model on entry level drone? Most features you can get on clearance or sale price in the $99 to $149 price range that has affordable "crash kits". Needs be heavy enough to not blow away in under 3 to 5 MPH wind. Your going to crash it so buy one or two crash kits with drone. The crash kits is where many companies screw buyer. Sell inexpensive drone with $50 crash kit many will need first day. If can buy drone, LiPo battery with charger and crash kit for under $200 your learning to fly and not grounded waiting on parts second day.

Seemed better than what I've found till you reach a much higher price, so I was wondering what model it was so that I could look to purchase same.

Thank you.

Majority of mine are LHI kits but have a couple of Sunfounder kits as well. Choose cameras or other accessories based on needs as spec out your kit. My remotes tether to my phone or tablet which cuts some cost and then run time is based on bow much battery your willing to pay for and fits your air frame. If looking to buy & fly have to double the price. I buy drones like AR parts, clearance kits when new models come out. Some of these things have some fine soldering to do and unless you have a good variable temperature iron with interchangeable tips and used to soldering connections under a 10x visor you might get frustrated. Compared to repairing surface mount components in ham radios and marine radars, drones are relatively easy projects but my newest is is kit someone bought and burned up three control boards before quit and sold his kit minus a few melted parts at a loss.

Knew when got an offer to buy three ATN X Sight night vision scopes but had to buy three to get super cheap "dealer" price that there was a new model coming out. About the time got second one mounted ATN was shipping the new upgraded I.R. scopes. AR parts, drone kits, cameras or whatever the great thing about close outs is item has all the original design bugs worked out but bad part is it is a generation off what everyone wants before you have it built and flying. I can't afford the latest model of buy & fly and get features I want. What is your electronic hobby skill level? Some kits are easier than others.

Mine is zero. But I have a couple buddies into radios that rate "professional"

One does similar with copiers (don't laugh, man is a copier ninja and travels 2 states fixing what others can't.)

I've just been waiting for the prices to drop....your numbers I can live with.

Thanks for the leads, I'll go looking.

Man that can maintain these current network copiers that can scan & email document as a pdf file will always have work. My clients seem to be waiting on their repairman quite often.
