The worse that can be said is "no" or the $ shows to be too much, no like asking for a first date, . . . its just an inquiry.
I thought someone did last year, I remember some thread about it.

In the end what's in it for them to make 100 receivers or 500 receivers or whatever, especially if they've got to do the legwork to sell them?

If someone like LMT was going to get into the business of making a quality receiver that works, you may as well make the whole rifle like PTR does with the PTR-91. That way you ensure you can make them year after year and not be hostage to anything else. If we didn't have the 1989 ban in place, we still might have imports of rifles from somewhere to this day.

I see parts kits as mostly a secondary market thing now. Prices are much higher than they used to be. Some vendors have a few but they are either dredgings from the bottom of the ocean or nice, but pricey. Or you can wait for someone to pull one out of the closet to sell here. In the end as an entrepreneur that's nothing I would build a business around and tool up for.
As a single item to bulid a business around, it sure would be foolish.
You could save time and go to your front door, pitch piles of cash to the wind, and have the same ending.
I'd like to think that LMT has a leg up on that. DSA or (DS) started on the
path, but has branched, and isn't paying too much attention for some reason.

oh well . . . .

With the "printing" thing getting more traction, day by day,I expect someone to come out with a printed FAL receiver before long. How good would it be? I have no idea.

LMT

Did anybody ask LMT if they need DSA's permission to sell Post sample Machine gun receivers? Also, If DSA hold's the Copy rights and Blue prints from the Austrian Government and hold the Patent/Copy rights to the SA58, Then anybody else making a Fal receiver could get a lawsuit from DSA. Look at why Coonans receivers are different near the front of the ejection port.

Why? Last I heard it was because of lazy money saving methods rather than more expensive ways of doing it correctly. Not some patent infringement. I'm open for education on that matter, however.

I can't imagine a Patent still being enforceable ?

How long have DSA had the rights ?

Coonan

Point is, Why did Coonan make the ejection port longer in front which would require more machine work unless they are casted that way to begin with. Then the question is, Which came first, DSA's cast receivers or Coonan's? As Far as I know, When you change a original design from 8% to as much as 15% and apply for a Patent and it get's accepted and you pay for it and your done. Then it's time to make what you applied for, Or contract it out.

European Patents are 17 years. USA is 20 years. Copy rights are good for Life of the original filer unless willed to a friend or family member.

I doubt DSA holds a patent on the different types of receivers. I would imagine if LMT isn't permitted to make them it would be because they contractually agreed not to with DSA.

My understanding from earlier discussion, is that LMT cannot use DSA's prints because of a NDA. I've got lots of prints for many parts - FN, UK, Austrian, T48, etc. Heck, collecting FAL and AK blueprints has been a hobby of mine.

I have a small pile of parts kitst left, and I wonder about things like this.

Should I sell the parts, should I buy lowers (out of building for now)

OTOH in 10 years I may just be able to print one!

Hey GP, Do you have prints of a FAL lower and trigger parts? ShootingSight needs them to make a new aftermarket trigger. See http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=428059
