Damascus Slide

Guys, here is a 1911 build I just finished. Caspian had a 25% off sale on their Damascus slides last December and I ordered one with Bomar cuts. I received this slide July 2nd, and started building it right away using a Caspian receiver and a .45 ACP Kart supported barrel.

I plan on using this pistol in IDPA and Steel Challenge competition at my local club. To stay IDPA legal for CDP rules, I could not install an extended mag release, so I got a legal one from Wilson.

The front strap of the frame was machine checkered by Caspian, but I did clean it up with a needle file. And I did checker the arched mainspring housing.

Found a NIB Quadralock barrel kit with all the springs and parts in back of vault. Have not found a 1911 in the fleet want to alter as all are either collector models or had all the alterations want done. May have to do a ground up build now as that Damascus slide looks nice. Have an entire set of 1911 build tools including custom built fixtures plus two 1911 builders courses under my belt before building at least two dozen already but AR 15's have made me lazy.

No slide to frame fitting, critical fire control system installation to get a 3.25 pound trigger plus the tedious metal checkering that I like. Front strap, front of trigger guard but can buy my mainspring housing already done. Always have my eye out for more 1911's especially host guns for builds. How much was your total investment in parts? Very nice looking pistol, sir.

The Damascus slide from Caspian listed at $885.96, plus Bomar cuts, $61.47, less 25% sale then in effect, -$243.17, plus $70 tariff and $20.53 shipping, net $820.05
You won't believe this, but I got the Caspian frame as a "second" at Camp Perry for $50. I have no idea why they sold it as a 'second' as it is perfect in all respects (that I know of).
The ramped Kart barrel was about $150 years ago. Don't know exactly. They are about $190 now. Most of the other parts I had in my stash for years and don't remember their cost.

I have many, many new 1911 parts in my stash, so send me your list and I can give you a fantastic deal. It's time that I start letting go of stuff that I will never use.

Damascus is like forge welded steel? Beautiful, but isn't that scary?

Yes, forge welded. Scary? Not when you remember that the Japanese Katana swords are also forge welded for strength.

Doesn't it depend on the fold direction?
