Dang fellas, I just wanted some friggin’ fire......y’all got real stupid real quick with the diggin’ and whatnot!

ETA: I I’m gonna be required to dig a hole, then I fully expect to be rewarded with live explosives and/or fire.

Who's going to buy 160 lbs of Tannerite, and then resist piling it all up and shooting it all at once???

As for the digging - don't worry. As Nuttz has it written it'd add an hour to everybody's run time and we'd be backed up for miles. I do like the idea though, and I'm going to have to think on how to do it in a way that's fair for everyone yet short enough to keep people moving through it.

I'm happy to announce ASE Precision (https://www.facebook.com/ASEPrecision/) has signed on as an obstacle sponsor, and chosen the Pistol Bays (Stage 5 for the 5k and Stage 7 for the 10k) for their obstacle location. Dustin Downard (the owner) told me he had a great idea for an obstacle that involves shooting one of his ACRs. It was a punishment in Basic that he wanted to do in an event but "no one wanted to get dirty".

Okay, definitely don’t have me RSO that stage!

Have fighting position dug with dirt ramp down to wall (reduces need for ladder for folks that won’t be able to jump down in or climb back out) in hole that looks over FOF (field of fire). At top of ramp have only four sand bags (3 pre-filled and tied off). Have shooters fill the one empty sand bag with E-Tool and then have shooter carry all four down ramp to fortify shooting position before fireing. Setup up left and right aiming stakes so shooters know where to heft the sandbags up too.

One of the stages on the Bug Out Drill we had to shoot a fake land mine.

The top was a small canister of tannerite.

Maybe 75-100 yards.

It was timed.

I was at a local GA group shoot one time down in rural central GA. Some kid had brought a container of tannerite and placed it out at the maximum berm the guy had. I had placed a home made flipper AR500 plate out there for everyone to shoot and was waiting for them to kill the tannerite before testing the flipper.

I got bored waiting for them to hit it, so I yanked the bolt out of the Mauser (owner was VERY anal about cold range) and started calculating the distance to the berm using my mil-dot, then dialed the scope for that and again, sat and watched them chuck rounds at the tannerite.

Dude 1 "I think it fell."
Me "Nope, still there, intact."
(glared at)
5 minutes later
Dude 2 "I think it must have busted open from spalling."
Me "Nope, still there, intact. Are you correcting for distance?"
(glares)
Dude 1 to Dude 2 "How far do you think that is?"
Dude 2 "Gotta be about 300 yards." (looks at me)
Me "It's between 255 and 265 yards."
Dude 2 "So you know how much to correct for that distance?"
Me "Already on the scope."
Dude 2 "Bullshit."
I shrug, move the Mauser to the firing bench, load a single round in chamber and shove the bolt in, bang...kaboom.

An hour later I am dumping ammo through the FA FAL and I hear one of them say "That's the asshole who shot our tannerite."
So I turned around and said "Someone had to."

One of the two is actually a pretty good friend now.

That's my second best tannerite story, and I am sticking to it.

I hope to hear the other one in a week or so. Knowing my memory, you've already told me about it. Tell me again, Uncle Stimpy!

Stage 3: Booby Traps!
The Cave

Leave your rifle (and pack, if necessary) outside and enter the cave. Move forward on your own, keeping your pistol HOLSTERED, until you see a “Wait Here” sign or find an RO and start your wait time if necessary. You will need a light NOT ATTACHED to your weapon for navigation just to get to the start line – if you do not have a light on your person when you arrive you will not be allowed to enter, and will zero this stage. You may have any type of light you wish, and you may use a weapon light in the stage if you wish – but you CANNOT draw your pistol before you begin the shooting stage. There will be ROs and other shooters in front of you, and they will not respond kindly to having the business end of your pistol pointed at them. On the buzzer, move forward and put three pistol hits on each of 5 targets from marked shooting boxes as you find them to neutralize. Hidden along the path will be multiple booby traps that trigger “claymores” (bright lights). For each booby trap you trigger, 60 seconds will be added to your shoot time. Tread carefully! Any hits on “no shoot” targets will add 20 seconds to your shoot score for each target hit.

OK - after Stage 3 is where the route splits. Here is Stage 4 for the 10k folks. We'll rejoin the 5k people in a few weeks.

Supported Shooting & Moving:
Pistol Mountain, Stage 4 (10k)

On the buzzer, move to the first position and make one hit on each 10” rifle target at approximately 100, 200, and 300 yds. Move the next position, putting three hits on a paper torso on the way (WHILE MOVING), and hit the same targets again. Move to the final position, putting three hits on a second paper torso on the way (WHILE MOVING), and hit each target one final time. Various means of support will be available at each position for the rifleman to use or not use as they see fit. The three “supports” will be a tank trap, some kind of natural support (tree, rock, etc.), and whatever else I can find nearby for the 3rd.

After running a 6K, that turned out to be an 8K, I think I can handle another 2K, and since more shooting is always more fun, I'll probably have a go at the 10K.

But- it's apparent the 30 round detachable box magazine is far superior to the 8 round enbloc, so an AR it will be!

It's 9.93k, thank you very much! That's a 2D measurement though - you'll have to ask Stephen Roach what the 3D measurement is after he runs it.

But my numbers have to be accurate - it's a sickness I have. You can't imagine how much still being off by 0.07 kilometers hurts me! I may have to make everyone run the last 230 feet in the parking lot just to make me feel better.

LOL - I often run "that little bit extra" until Runkeeper on my phone clicks over that last .1 mile....

Seriously, it sounds like y'all have got it going on with your events!

But my numbers have to be accurate - it's a sickness I have. You can't imagine how much still being off by 0.07 kilometers hurts me! I may have to make everyone run the last 230 feet in the parking lot just to make me feel better.
What if we came around the parking lot and came into the "back" of the start/finish line?

Yeah my wife isn't super thrilled about that either. I'm trying to work it out where she can drop me off in Georgia while she goes and visits her friend in Florida.

5 weekends ago - We went to Charlotte for your 2-gun match and visited with one of our boys & his wife.
4 weekends ago - I was hunting Wildebeest in Mpumalanga South Africa.
3 weekends ago - I was shooting jackals in Limpopo South Africa.
2 weekends ago - We flew down to San Antonio/Corpus Christi to visit with friends and see a Robert Earl Keen concert.
This past weekend - Opening weekend of whitetail gun season in KY with Blondzilla.

DON"T make your life all run & guns girl!!!

(if you plan to blow-off your other responsibilities and just play, at least be well rounded like me )
