My next project, a begining.......

will be this L2. But, in what configuration. I'm actually wanting to build it up as a Malaysian or Singapore L2. I have a gas block inbound as we speak (haha, what a search). And, after speaking with another member here, a toilet plunger of the 4th design will also be made available to me. So, I'm just going to post this beginning photo here and revisit once in a while. I have some parts for trade and some cash, too, so I will be looking for the appropriate lower and other misc. parts. I don't want to turn this post into a want ad, it's just for fun.

I forgot to mention that the above parts are all Aussie marked/unmarked. I cannot wait. The hunt slowly begins.

You just can’t stop

After you get that done start on a lithgow Vickers. That will keep you busy. In fact you are in luck I have a MA40 Vickers water jacket and trunnion that will be on GB Saturday nite. We are working on mike at Halo to do another run of semi RSPs. Time to step into bigger projects.

And nice to meet you at KCR. wish we had more time to chat.

Trust me, I've been on to bigger projects and need to realize that is not enough time, space in the basement, nor funding for any more projects right now! Haha. I went the RPD route, the 1919 route, misc. smaller stuff like STENs and such. Now, I've had some of these parts for some time and lately came across some more, so it's time for this one to step up to the plate (I put the Belgian on the back burner for now) And, it was good meeting you, and others, as well. I hope the book project is right in tune.

Also, if anyone has any insight, suggestions (not bigger projects, haha) or anything to add to a Malaysian build, so enter it into this thread.

This Inch section just don't get the attention and movement that the Metric section does. GO INCH!

ETA: I also have a batch of L2A1 bipod pivot pins made from my original coming off the lathe very soon.....................................yay!

Haha, who don't?

Actually, I picked up the bolt/carrier some time back knowing that I may need it for a project. The barrel with bipod tab was recently purchased from Sarco (thanks, Dave). I had the other bits in the pile in the basement from some years back. I picked up the NOS top cover from Dave while at the Creek. There may be more down there, but a big rat ran me out when I was knee deep in the Inch section.....................

Abominog, that coffee is probably cheaper than some of this stuff and easier to get without getting poo on you.

they are great for flushing out the enemy.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Big Time

How about, just to inspire the crowd, post a pic of that killer chromed line bore, eh?

Thanks Leland.

You know, I've tried several times in the past to take a quality pic of different bores and they just don't work out. Also, SawbriarRips, the reference to an ol' Peter Gabriel tune from the '80's is cool, too.

Wow,

Gonna be a very nice rifle and makes me itch for BREN Mk IV. Hope SAFN49 gets the barrels soon.

01BIRDDOG, who knows? It's just parts that I gather and throw in a box, then one day, it's a rifle.................

I definitely think I'm going Malaysian with this so if you have a Malayan part that'll fit, let me know if you're willing to get rid of it and I just may buy/trade ya for it. I'm working on a batch of L2 bipod pivot pins made from my original so if ya' need a L2/C2 bipod pivot pin, they'll be done soon and in the MP.

I've always wanted the toilet plunger, if for nothing else just to annoy at the range by just being on a rifle.

I love the look of those rifles with the toilet plunger brake. This will be interesting to follow and can't wait to see the end result.

Put a mirror in front of the barrel and reflect light into the bore.

Ok, so now I must be overlooking some info in my Commonwealth FAL book because I cannot find the Malaysian serial number range. Can someone who knows please post that up for everyone to know. And, if you have one of these lowers, hit me up (at least for the info). Thanks.

But what rear sight did those guns have? I see the Recoil Reducer noted on the Malaysian L2s but the notation on the Singapore L2s is 'fitted with L1A1 backsights', but they were also fitted with the RR. If you go Malaysian, what sight is needed?

Mine btw is one of the Singapore made in 1970.

Mine is a Singapore 1970 also (70 209). From what I recall Kevin Adams told me that the recoil reducer outfitted rifles had the standard rear site. In the book it notes which ones had the tangent rear site and they don't overlap with the recoil reduced rifle serial number range.

Sayin it again you have too much time on your hands. And that’s coming from somebody who’s unemployed.

I hung some funky light fixture in the kitchen. That was today’s project. But then yesterday’s was mg42.

BREN 308 barrels would sell well. Must be too much effort nobody has done it.

Yep, I definitely need a couple of .308 Bren barrels. I don’t want to abandon this project but if I can’t get .308 barrels, I’ll just build one in 8mm and the rest in .303.

These things take a lot of time, measuring, etc. They will not be cheap, however many I make. When I get this working copy done, I'll put down some numbers and factor in the cost of the tooling, etc. We'll see, but not cheep. Your decimal is probably in the wrong place, for starters, ima.

Very Nice work Leland. Do you have plans to mark them to distinguish them from an original? Ala the Leland Plunger?

G3, I never have a plan............. We don't need no stinking plan.

Another part to the pile from a good friend. This right here tells me that when you do a favor for a buddy, it will usually be returned. And, in this case, it returned greatly.

Leland,

You could make a mint making L2A1 barrels, flash hiders, front sight ears and gas blocks. Hint, hint.

End cap is done. I finally got the carbide reamer in and used it. Nice! Now, I'm waiting for the 7/16"-20 tap and the extra long 9/16"-24 RH tap.

Both taps came in and I threaded the cap and also the muzzle device itself for the barrel's threads. They came out slick, too!

It threads nicely onto the L2 barrel. I'm sure it will require a typical SLR muzzle device timing washer. Now, to find a woodruff key cutter that measures .090" thick by 1" diameter to cut the slot used for the retaining washer. Those are a pain. It should be known that I only had one mess up where I measured improperly (or, should I say, I forgot to add half the diameter of my ground steel rod I use for zeroing). Ugh....that took half the day to correct. It's not perfect, but it'll work for a nice working pattern. I'm getting there............slowly. I also have to drill the holes around the circumference, but I don't have an indexing head with a lathe type chuck. I'll have to get one of those. This thing is really costing me!

Pics later.
