2018 Freeze Your Nuts Off Shoot

We've been doing this for a few years, but it is never at the same time, and it never has the same people (except 4x401, Kevin, and me, iirc...). This is the biggest crew yet I think, and we had three (count it, that's 3...) of the next generation out slaying steel in the snow.

Weather was most agreeable - meaning that it didn't freeze our nuts off, and it didn't rain. There was snow, sun, wind, and a bunch of clouds that *looked* like it might rain. But we got out about the 24 hour mark without getting hit.

Conditions were great given that it is January. Conditions were trying as it relates to getting hits on ~2MOA targets in winter/desert conditions, meaning: swirling and off-and-on wind up to 25MPH, changing light from bright sun to dark overcast, and the fact that it was 28* or so.

Snow. Two or three inches during the night.

Camp was at the north end - right at the shooting location you know and love.

Target #1 was A/C silhouette + two 6" hex 'heads'. ~225 yards

Work crew. This is about 1030 AM. Weather was perfect.

View of the targets from the shooting location. What - you can't see them? Targets are at 225 (c-zone silhouette), 325 (full silhouette), 500 (12" gong), and 625 (c-zone silhouette) yards.

4x401 laying it down.

Kevin getting hits.

snowhawk jockey and snowhawk jr. Kid got first round hits on first ever trigger time with .308 rifle...

The group:

You would have been fine, really. By the time we left Saturday, almost all the snow that fell the night before was gone.

And you can see that in the last 2 pictures.

no black powder cannon or class 3 holder with the good toys... you guys are slacking compared to Mason-Dixon Frozen Nuts shoots.

no pictures of booze or food, no fun without it.

We're slacking?

We shoot twice per year at Brush511's place - to include some black powder shenanigans

We shoot once in the summer with LOTS of Class 3 goodness

We shoot once in the winter with long guns and high winds - which is WAY more fun than turning money (and ammo) into noise with full auto.

Well,,,,
some of us were only there about 30 hrs. total...though time spent with Good friends always seems shorter..

We had a bitch'en fire, just look at the pics....bet we burned half the damn ARK...doubt anyone back your way could do that good a fire....

As for food, the son in law and I dined heartily on a veritable Buffet of Mountain house products...along with other staples associated with an outing of such brevity...we didn't starve. The Saturday morning breakfast for others sported pancakes, bacon, and egg's....you'd have thought we were camped next to IHOP for CS...

Booze.....yes, there was a bit consumed by a Few that will remain nameless....and no, I didn't drink alone.

It's my sincere hope that SOMEDAY one of our Winter shoots will rival the AWESOMENESS of the M/D shoots!!

But as BRUNOP alluded to, you peckerwoods got noth'in on our regular summertime gig.

Spend about 30 hours between the 3 main shoots on the road.
Not counting the little get togethers at Range 511.
For quite a few of us.

The tailgate is down on the pickup and you weren't leaning on it looking at the ground?

just messing with you guys... we always have lots of firewood, i usually bring a little less than half a pick-up load to the summer shoots along with food and booze. i think everybody brings some sort of beer or booze.

i believe our shoots go back to about 2006. some of ours can also can be found on You tube by typing in Mason-Dixon Spring or Summer Shoot.

as always gentleman... have fun and enjoy the trigger time.
