Well let me tell yah! After three days of drinkin, smokin, golfin, eatin, drinkin, gamblin, drinkin, eatin, drinkin, and drinkin in Atlantic City and then yard work, drinkin, BBQ, drinkin, yard games with drinkin yesterday...today was rough! Only did 3.5 miles total and split it to work on hills and recovery. 2.5 with elevation at good pace, 1 mile jog/walk, 1 mile with elevation and decent pace, than 1/2mile jog/walk for cool down. 90+ degrees and 60%+ humidity. I felt the booze oozing out of my pores!!!

So after Sledge/Tire/Ammo-can workout yesterday I did things a little different today (gettin' ready for Rockcastle). I did three 1.2 mile treadmill sprints each followed with a modified in-gym crossfit workout:

Mile 1 - 1/10mile at 6mph, 8/10mile at 8.6mph, 1/10mile at 9mph, 2/10mile 6mph cool down
- 5 Straight-bar dead-lifts (135lb)
- 5 Straight-bar clean/jerk/press (95lb)
- 5 Push-ups
- 5 Pull-ups
- 5 Seated rows (130lbs)
- 5 Dips
- 5 Upward row/toss from squat (35lb plate)
- 5 Standing dumbbell curls (30lb)
- 25 decline sit-ups
- 25 hanging knee-ups
Mile 2 - 1/10mile at 6mph, 8/10mile at 8.5mph, 1/10mile at 9mph, 2/10mile 6mph cool down
- 5 Straight-bar dead-lifts (135lb)
- 5 Straight-bar clean/jerk/press (95lb)
- 5 Push-ups
- 5 Pull-ups
- 5 Seated rows (130lbs)
- 5 Dips
- 5 Upward row/toss from squat (35lb plate)
- 5 Standing dumbbell curls (30lb)
- 25 decline sit-ups
- 25 hanging knee-ups
Mile 3 - 1/10mile at 6mph, 8/10mile at 8.4mph, 1/10mile at 9mph, 2/10mile 6mph cool down
- 5 Straight-bar dead-lifts (135lb)
- 5 Straight-bar clean/jerk/press (95lb)
- 5 Push-ups
- 5 Pull-ups
- 5 Seated rows (130lbs)
- 5 Dips
- 5 Upward row/toss from squat (35lb plate)
- 5 Standing dumbbell curls (30lb)
- 25 decline sit-ups
- 25 hanging knee-ups
1/2mile at 6mph cool down

I drove a tractor and weedeated yesterday. Been running 2-milers at lunch. Ran 6 at TMountain Monday. Headed back out there today after work. The f&&&ing depression that comes and goes for the last month makes staying hooked up hard.
Wife's been running one day/crossfit the next - it seems to help. She's been training for Andrew's Garand Challenge in January. Watched her making solid hits out to 500 yards Tuesday. She needs to work on speed loading/getting into position, but I think she'll do just fine.

In hotels again this week. After three hours of sleep (had to watch season-ender of GOT!!!) and all day on plane, I knocked out a quick 3miles on the treadmill. Focusing this week on next week's distance for Rockcastle. Gonna Suck, Getting stoked!

Awesome pace! My little legs can't keep up with a treadmill going that fast...

Little slower tonight than Monday but added some elevation on the treadmill throughout the run.

Okay, so let's get back to the winter training. I got on the treadmill tonight. Started off a little slower than usual to stretch out from this past weekend in Rockcastle. Gonna start ramping up to some longer runs now for January. Looks like about an 8:18 avg pace.

Little bit farther and a little bit faster tonight (8:15 avg pace). Treadmill stopped me at an hour during the 7th mile.

Does anybody have a M1 Garand i can run in January?

I'd like to be part of the Andrew's Garand Challenge.

I just know if i can obtain one before the run.

I plan on running the 20K and ROing.

Mike & B17 -

I'll be texting ROs soon, asking for commitments, and seeing who's doing 20K, and Garand Challenge.

If anyone needs to share gear/rifle with another RO, please let me know, I'll make it work.

Thanks to all of you!

I can commit now to ROing.

I'm running the 20K.

I'm *not* going to do the Garand Challenge.

Thanks! I'll be texting ROs soon, so you'll see the question again. (I have to ask and get all my lists correct)

BTW - I spoke with John, the landowner yesterday, he said he's been doing some bulldozer work, creating a couple different shooting areas. I need to get out there and check them out, it will probably alter our COF from what we've been planning on. More to come!

I've been toying with the idea of switching up my gear, not just for this run but for others too. I like the idea of these battle belts/H belts and slinging the rifle...I could easily save some weight that way, and also they seem a lot more friendly over the obstacles. I had to take my backpack off for every barbed wire crawl and I couldn't shoot prone wearing the pack either (the padding for the rifle didn't let me lean my head back).

Question though...how much of a pain is it to run while having to steady/hold the rifle? I'm assuming if you went hands free it would be the shit out of you going down the trail.

I ran with the FAL on my front on a single-point sling for my first time out at OK. Did not like it for obstacles like climbs. Was OK (heh) for running, but inferior to the TAB biathlon sling. Great for walking up to stages and prepping and for wait time cause it was fast to deploy.

Can't imagine running with it up front and hands free...as noted it would be a wrecking ball. (yes I teed that up for Nuttz)

While i don't do a lot running on the course, i do some.

I've used a biathlon sling and they work great if it's tight. They're just limited on options. It's either on your back or shoulder. But are the best for running.

But most of the time i've used a two point that can be converted to a single point.

The two point can be carried in the low ready, patrol carry, or slung on the back.

The low ready is ok if it's slung tight, but it still needs a hand to steady it while running. Least favorite.

In the patrol carry, the sling is on the other shoulder. It can ride on the right hip but still needs a hand to steady it while running. It does seem more comfortable while running then the low ready.

From the patrol carry, it can easily be moved to the back for obstacles. Provided you don't a back pack.

I must say, i don't mind running while steading the rifle with one hand. Probably because i don't run that fast.

Slung on the back, muzzle up or down is the best for running. If tight.

I like having the option of the single point, as i use it from the low ready when approaching a stage to show clear and get prepared.

That was another big annoyance with my pack. Rifle pops out super easy but to put it back in I have to unsnap it and let it down off one shoulder to guide it back in.

Hmmmmmmm. I did feel like hands free running was a big help for me though. I guess I'll just have to try some diff things. I've already got a 1-2 pt sling I'll have to give it a go on a free weekend at the range.

I use the Ares Armor Husky sling - which is a version of the VTAC sling. It's a 2 point quick adjust, and allows me to sling the rifle tight to my body when running but get it loose and off quickly. Mine rides muzzle down, from my left shoulder to my right hip across my back. Especially for us short folks, the more stock you can get ABOVE your shoulder the better (so a sling attachment point on the side of the receiver where the stock and receiver meet is a good thing).

As for sling options, I ran the TAB Biathlon sling for a few RNGs (Okie Winter and Rockcastle 3G4V, carrying the FAL) and it was good for the long haul running part and if you get it situated correctly, it is out of the way for obstacles and stuff. The taking it off and on was a pain sometimes and practice would be in order. Changed things up for the Summer Okie RNG (since I was carrying the Sig MCX) and used a MapPul two-point/one-point sling and carried one point the whole time. I just held it off to the side with either arm for the run parts and it worked good. Did similar for the 9/11 Legion Memorial at Rockcastle. I used the same MagPul sling with the FAL but since I had the Plate Carrier on for Combat Class, I shifted between two-point for the running and then to one-point on stage arrival. It worked well.

I support any person who steals 3% from PP by conducting business transactions as Family & Friends transactions. This may impugn my character, and, according to Mark Graham of Arizona Response Systems, means that I'll lie, cheat, and steal from people here *if* there is anything about you that I don't like - or possibly even disagree with.

You may not want to do business with me. In case you forget this, this warning will appear in any future advert in the Marketplace. Consider yourself duly warned.
