SIG AMT

I have a SIG AMT that I really like...

Anyone else have one, or a PE-57?

Or even a SIG556?

I have 3 Woo's only really need two.
I don't have the funds right now because of my ammo purchases to get the 556 unless I sell something.

I have both fortunately. Took me 16 years to get the AMT and 22 years to get the PE-57. Had to wait for the money and gun to come together at the same time. I remember in 1986 when Mandall Shooting Supply got out of SIG's, your choice, $1250.00 each. I kept the Shotgun News add for a long time.

The only thing that has kept me from getting a PE57 kit is finding a reciever and if anyone makes US parts for them.

A guy at www.projectguns.com is making a flat.

I spoke with Jeff M at DSA and he will be working with Ironwood on a US wood furniture set in Summer 2009.

The AMT's can use a modified M-14 mag.

So, with a US receiver, 3 funiture parts, and 3 mag parts, that's 7 US parts and I think you only need 6. The muzzle brake/flash hider is part of the barrel.

Jeff also mentioned that the receiver can be made from 1.5" stressed metal, square tubing (.050 thick).

I have an AMT. Yes, a SIG. Had pics posted on here somewhere. Possibly the softest shooting 308 I've ever owned. It seems to actually recoil DOWNWARD.

I found some mags at an outdoor swap meet last year for the price of M14 mags. The seller said he didn't know what they were. He said they looked like M14 mags and sold them to me for $25 each.

Just wondering what a good, high serial #, all matching AMT is worth? I have the opportunity to obtain one but at $6000.00 I am hesitating. I 've seen the ones on GB going for @ 6K+. Doing some research has led me to believe that it was a kit build and not one of the original imports. Serial # last 4 is in the mid 6000 range. Comes with a Burris scope on an original SIG AMT scope mount.

She does not have "Made in Switzerland" on it, but some place in Cali. stamped into the lower.

She's a beaut., but I know nothing of these. Thnx.

If it is a kit build, $6000 is way too much. I've seen them recently for $3000.

Does the rifle have the grenade launching ribs on the barrel and bayo lug?

If is does, it is most likely kit built. However they did make aftermarket "slip over" aluminum flash hider units that extended over the barrel to the front site to make it appear like a military AMT.

Info on importers from: http://www.biggerhammer.net/sigamt/

Who imported the AMT?

Benet Arms, aka Gold Rush Gun Shop
Golden State Arms
International Gun Co. (Tuscon, AZ)
Mandall's
OSS, aka Osborne's Shooting Supplies, Greg Osborne
Sarco
SIGARMS

I'll have to check again on the importer's name. The flash hider on the front looks more like something off of a ZB26 or an early Hotchkiss. I don't recall any bayo lugs or ribbed bbl. I'm going to see if the shop will let me take pics of it as I'm a good customer and do my share to keep them in the business

Thnx for the info.

Ick,

Benet Arms (San Fransisco, California).
There are a couple on GB.
Post a pic, and I will give you the skinny on it.

Tony,

Here are a few pics. The Flash suppressor is steel, but definately not familiar. Some nylock nuts securing the bipod legs and the barrel looks like either the ribs have been machined off or something was taken off hence the discoploration rings.

I have always wanted a SIG AMT since I was a kid and reading about them in the High School library's copy of Small Arms of the World!

Sweet rifle.

To my limited knowledge, it looks like a correct amt sporter imported whole from Switzerland. No grenade rings on barrel, ground off bayo lug, etc. I don't know what the flash hider is from, the military version has an integrally machined brake.

I like that FH though.

Bonus is that it comes with a quick detach scope mount.

The nylock nuts are normal.

6 grand is a lot of money, but it's seems to be what they are going for. I almost dropped that for one, but decided that I want to shoot the piss out of one. So, I decided to try and build a couple up instead.

Mine will be built, come hell or high water and handcarved wood, mine will be built...

I you buy it, be sure to pick up a brand new spare barrel from DSA before they run out. They say you can use the PE57 mags in it also.

ickman, that looks like the biggest heaviest most unnecessary flash hider I have ever seen.

Talk about overkill, and not in a good way.

My thoughts exactly.. It looks like it should be on the end of a ZB26 or some type of Russian WWII Heavy MG. I think it's bigger than the FH on my BREN MKII! I think that it may give me some leverage on the asking price as it's not an original config..hence, probably a put -together rifle from a matching group of parts. I don't know, still not comfortable with that 6K figure.

Very nice rifle there. It is an early Benet Arms import from the early 1970's.I am not sure where that particular flash hider came from as the rifles were originally shipped from Switzerland with a bare threaded muzzle and the customer could install one of several aftermarket flash hiders/muzzle breaks that were sold at the time.
FYI the sigarms import rifle for sale on gunbroker is a very late import rifle and serial numbered in the 20,000 range. All Benet Arms import AMT's are early imports as Benet Arms/Gold Rush was the first importer.mills41

The pics only show the last 4 digits. The full serial# on the top near the carry handle had "2" in front of it just like the one (s) on GB. I find it strange that the full serial # only appears once and then the last four on all the other major components. So I guess this is also one of the 20,000. Now the early # on GB does have the ribbed bbl but no bayo lug. Replacement ? Or original? I'm starting to get confused...... Were the original 1449 imported with no ribbed bbls and no bayo lug? Was everything after the original 1449 assembled post import?

Ickmann double check that Benet Arms rifle again and I bet that the serial number begins with a "1".Also all AMT's were imported with the barrel threaded, without the grenade rings and integral flash hider and lacking the bayonet lug.The rifle on Gunbroker has one of Estes Adams reproduction flash hiders installed that mimics the profile of the grenade rings and original flash hider.Mills41

Good thing I'm not a betting man The prefix was a "1"..must have had a senior moment there. Like I said in the past..Scotch and the Internet don't mix.

Ick,

Sorry about getting back with you late!
All markings are correct for a Benet import.
Serial number will be 161XX.
The Benet imports did not necessarily come with flash hiders- I have seen at least 5 (this one I have never seen), different flash hiders.
All Benet had the "commercial" (i.e., not military barrels as pictured above and no lug nut).
The rifle appears to be prestine- I would pay no more than $5,000.00, depending upon the number of magazines (which run @ $150.00-$200.00).

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delay in responses. Just got home a few days ago and got the best father's day present ever...No not the AMT, but a 7lb 11oz baby boy. Born 0758hrs today. Happy Fathers day to all...

Anyway, I offered $4800 and the guy would not budge. Sooooo I took my $$ and bought a brand new 556 Commando and SIG 229r .40 for less than half of what I offered.

If I was a serious collector I would probably have gone for it but I could think of a hell of a lot of other things that I could pick up for $6000.00. It would of clashed with my WWII stuff anyway

BTW. The guy won't part with the scope mount. Besides, it's after market .

Ick,

The son was an awesome Father's Day present--- Happy Father's Day!!!
Don't worry about the AMT--- I am sure that you will enjoy the 556 and 229R even more as I would be hesitant to shoot the AMT.
Thank you for the information on the repro. mount as I am looking for an original.

This is AMT, not 510-4, so there are no grenade rings, they come that way, some with nylock nuts.
I have never seen that flash hider before tho.

Were they imported as complete swiss built guns or assembled with parts in the U.S.Katsenes seems to be left out of a lot of the importer lists.
