I've been watching this thread, curious about this combination as well. May I ask why .243 Win?
I had a Custom Mauser in .243 Win. that was a real gee-whiz* out to 400 or 500yds. when I lived in Calif., so I am fond of the cartridge.
*(great accuracy, need I mention, fast)

Thinking of building an AR along these lines myself, but have settled on a 6.5 caliber, probably 6.5-.308 or .260 Rem. The .243 is fine with bullets up to 100grs or so, but for my purposes, the 95 to 140gr bullets of the 6.5 allows for bigger varmits.

Like Mainer, I'm keeping an eye on this one, too. I have a DPMS in 6.5 Creedmoor, but I'm curious what folks have to say about the Armalite offering and the caliber.

I have a couple of bolt guns in 243. They work well on yotes. Although I have taken a couple of deer with the 243 I am not a big fan of the caliber for deer.

I have one. I bought it in '98 I believe. It's big, it's heavy and it reminds me of shooting a Browning A5. You feel the rifle fire, you feel the humungus bolt carrier when it comes full stop at the rear and you feal that humungus bolt carrier when it slams forward and locks. It's like shooting 3 times with one pull of the trigger. Magazines suck, morphadites they are. Might be different (gen 3?) now.

I was at the range last week and there was a guy shooting one. He has only had it for about 6 mos. and really liked it. It was damned accurate @ 100 and he was zeroing a new scope and shooting sub-moa groups with his sp hunting loads he worked up. Seemed like a good fit for him. I talked to him yesterday (he was at the pistol range) and he busted a buck and a doe at 230+ and 180+ yds. respectively and was thrilled.

.243 is a barrel burner. My prairie dogging friend and myself both shot out our remington 700 barrels in .243 in 2000 rounds. Groups opened up from LESS then 1/2 inch to 1 to 1-1/4 inches. I had my cut and rechambered and it got WORSE. His worked out for him.
