Bruce - did you mean to cut the guy's arm off?

I like Mike's art / guy with full arm/hand. I like your "Second place" thing.

And due to some unforeseen circumstances related to work and whatever, I'm coming to this match with two or three people. We are either 3, 4, or 5 total. I'll know and fill out the forms in the next couple of days.

I've thought that, too! Where's the like button?

I've started giving when I think it fits. But it's not the same, because I also use that as a smartass response on occasion.

Great. My old one is getting threadbare from wearing it so much. May have to order a couple of replacements this time.

EDITED TO ADD Just remember Stimpy, you have the Shlomo Second plaques already, so no need for another award unless you just want to out of the goodness of your heart.

Member B17 will not be able to make it this time, but is mailing the perpetual Invictus Award back for this year's winner.

Remember, you DO NOT want to be the winner of this award, but one of will be regardless

That damn "real life" stuff has reared it's ugly head again today and let me know my priorities have changed. I will NOT be coming down on Friday and helping with set-up or the Ruby Tuesday meet-up, and may not be coming down at all.

My best scenario at this point is to drive down early Saturday morning and get there before lunch to shoot. Whether I spend the night and come home Sunday morning, or drive down, shoot, and drive back home again Saturday evening is still debatable. Time will tell as my schedule evolves, but at this point I have obligations both the week prior and the week after that I cannot change, and am at the whim of customer schedules.

Bruce, I will mail you the ARS prize table donation goodies (that I forgot to bring last year) when I get back to the US in a couple of weeks. They will be there this time even if I don't make it.

My shirt order is in and will be on the way when done.

Shredder worked great, again. Really like this option. Makes it easy for us and probably a lot easier for you, Stimpy. Like the color you picked too.

PLEASE be sure to tell any MDs you know about Shredder. They have been great to work with and really take a problematic load off the organizer.

Internal dialogue:

I have too many t-shirts.

But that's a pretty cool shirt.

You can't even fit them all in a single drawer anymore.

But it's an FN crazy shirt!

Two drawers are full. Don't be stupid.

I'm not stupid - I'm FN crazy!!!

Who will win. Too early to tell. I must stay strong until the 15th...

Oh cut the B/S. We know you are getting some. The only question is how many. Just don't forget the wife cause she likes them also.

Built in AC on those hot and sweaty range days in the south.

Some of my old ones have hole in them too. But not the tiny ones bullets make.

Is anybody practicing this year? With the RNG coming so close after this, I have zero time for FAL Match practice.

I'm going to just show up and have fun, and let the bullets fall where they may.

I am planning to go to the range this Friday and if all goes well verify zero, check ammo function, and see if 168 gr HPBT shoot better in my FALs than Mil-Surp.

Invictus, did you get my letter? Or, should I say, did BZ tell you that you've got mail?

Nope, but she is sitting here now and said she did not get the mail today.

If it was money, she'll claim ignorance and I'll never see it anyway

I think that is an automatic transition whenever she puts the puts that metal band on her finger.

No money, just that item we discussed. She might have thought it a piece of jewelry since is was made from shiny yellow metal. And because it was brass, she may have thought you sent it home.

I really hope to attend next year once I get my scope mounted and zeroed and get some practice in with it. For once there's an event that's an easy drive for me - just need to hone my humble skills to avoid total embarassment.

Don't worry about that. Skill levels range from amazing and inhuman to blind squirrel finding a nut. As long as you are safe with your firearm and understand trigger and muzzle discipline you will fit in perfectly. This match is way more about socializing with FAL bretheren than hardcore competition.

Couldn't have said it better.

No matter how odd you may think you are, if you love this rifle, for this one day I assure you your brother will be at this match.

I just realized I never made a hotel reservation - thank goodness there were some rooms left at the Quality Inn! I've had to stay in Cumming before and it sucked to drive that far.

Argh...I wanted to try to make this time around but I won't have my scope mounted and sighted in by then.

I just got a scope and mount a couple weeks ago but one of the little mounting plates was defective so never got it on and am waiting for a new part to arrive next week. I'm new to the 'world of scopes' after finally admitting defeat that my eyes are just too crappy for irons anymore past 50 yards.

I should be there next year though finally after reading about it here the past 2 years.

Hope it goes great and the weather finally lets up with all this damn rain. Saw on the club site you got some flooding there.

We have two classes. Irons & optics. You don't need a scope to play bro!

The furthest shots are 100 yards and most less than that. You start off with large round steel targets, IIRC, 12" diameter. The other long range targets are paper plates (standard sized) and NRA SR-1 target centers (6Ĺ inch black and 12 inch white. Scope or not, you should be able to see them through iron sights. No precision shots in this match, mostly hit or miss. The SR-1 target is scored with the hit in the rings - X=10, 10, 9, 8, 7.

So if your rifle isn't scope ready yet bring it. Or just show up. Many of the shooters bring backup rifles and you could probably arrange to borrow one for the match. Just have to invest in the ammo (factory only, no reloads).

This match has been going on every year since 2002. If it wasn't so damn fun, the people freaking awesome (or awesomely freaky), and the rifles that show up are out of this world. No excuses.

Can someone share a few more details please? Thanks in advance for your help.

What time does one need to arrive at the range?
When is check-in, safety briefing, walkthrough?
When does the match start, and how long until it's wrapped up (approximately of course since it will depend on # of participants)?
What is the cost?
Besides rifle/mags/ammo/eye & ear protection what else would one need to have along?
How many magazined are needed to do the course (I only have nine )

Sorry so many questions - trying get my act together to make it out there. It's about a 1.5 hour trip for me so I can't use 'too far' as an excuse If I can't get my chit together then I'll be at the August Run & Gun for sure, plenty of time to prep for that one. Gotta work on skills and endurance since 5k is like a zillion times farther than I usually move (home office to kitchen is my long distance ambulation at this point).

I'm trying to get to a range this weekend and get sighted in - hoping 4 out of 5 plates will hold the mount on (guess I'll find out. Other one s/b here early next week).

Plan on getting to the range by 8 a.m. or shortly after. Stimpy likes to get the first rounds downrange way before 9 a.m.

Plan on ammo needs as 150 rounds for your rifle. Magazines, as many as you want. Bare bones minimum 4 carried + 1 in the rifle. Your choice of method of carry.

Match consists of two courses of fire. The first COF is the Combat/Action stage. Shooter provides a magazine and 19 rounds of ammo to R/O. R/O loads magazine with 19 rounds + 1 blank. This magazine is used to intially load the rifle and commence the stage. Shooter must clear the blank and continue shooting (reload, tap&rack, whatever). At the start, shooter will go prone and engage 16 hanging steel plates at 100 yards (remember the blank). Each plate requires 1 hit. Shooter will then move to the opposite side of the range (muzzle down range) to the next shooting station. Shooter will engage designated targets with the required number of rounds ( range varies from 25-75 yards). Targets are normally plates/steel and paper targets. Shooting positions vary. Shooter will then move to the center section of the range (shoot house) and engage the close range targets with the required number of rounds (ranges from 25-10 yards). The targets are normally designated hit zones (paper plates in center mass of IPSC target) and the hit zone is covered by clothing (out of view). End of stage 1. All stage 1 targets are scored hit or miss. Targets without the required number of hits are scored as a miss.

Stage 2 is a modified NRA High Powered rifle match. Targets are NRA SR-1 target centers (black 9-10-X and white 7-8 rings). Shooter has 3 magazines, each loaded with 10 rounds. At the buzzer, shooter will load rifle and engage his designated target with 10 rounds standing, unload rifle and show clear, shift to the sitting/kneeling position and load rifle. Shooter will then engage his designated target with 10 rounds. Unload and show clear, then shift to prone position and load rifle with 10 rounds. Engage designated target with 10 rounds, unload and show clear, insert OBI and ground rifle. This stage is timed and the shooter will have a preparatory time of a couple of minutes and a shooting time of 3 minutes total for the shooting. The clock starts at Fire/buzzer and stops 3 minutes later at the cease fire. Stage 2 is scored by target point value - X = 10, 10, 9, 8, 7. All hits outside scoring rings are scored as misses.

Stage 1 normally runs around 60-70 rounds but plan on 80 minimum. Stage 2 is 30 rounds.

Plan on all day at the range (4-5 p.m.). This includes shooting, B/S, more shooting, side matches (High Power Pistol and Drop Eight), range break down and Awards Ceremony. You can leave anytime if you need to, but everyone is encouraged to stay all day. After the match will be a party at Stimpy's with good food and people.

Stimpy uses Practiscore to register for the matches. Here is the link for you to sign up. I think cost is $20. If you can't sign up on Practiscore, I believe Stimpy can register you at the match.
