I'm not gonna make the FAL event this spring, but I am zeroing in on this event instead, with FAL.

Stimpy, do you know what distances you will run this year?

I carried a SCAR 17 at the SC RNG plus 100 rounds of ammo. Going lighter this year. Plus my FALs all sport irons so tiny targets at long distances would be a chore.

Longest distance will again be a full torso steel silhouette at 600 yards.

Sorry, wasn't clear in my post. How long are the runs? 3K, 5K, 8K, 10K

Wasn't worried about the ranges. My FALs with irons are not bad at distance, just not good either. My L1A1 lets me get by with 5 for 10 at 600 on full size steel. And that is bagged and benched.

Nah I misread your post.

5K only.

If I do more than 5k it would be loops, and I doubt too many are up for that.

Well I might try the 5K then. 3K I know I can do in 1Ĺ hours tops. But I figure a 5k would be 2-2ľ hours. It's the hills, doncha know.

Got plenty of time to work on it.

Going up isn't the problem for me. As long as I have traction I can power up them. It's the downhill slopes that get to me. Unlike you high speed, low drag types, I have to stay in a lower gear and keep an eye out for the runaway traps turnoff .

Downhill really tears up my knees and ankles if I try to go too fast.

The suck gets you coming and going. It is called the traffic around and in Atlanta.

Understood, downhill runs were what brought on my patellar tendonitus. I eventually learned to run a bit more midfoot and the issue went away. If you sound like you have dive-flippers on going downhill, you need to get your landing under your mass better.

There's not enough room, Mike. But if you want to do a 10k I will add the category for you. Same stages twice is OK? I can't close any more ranges.

Judging from the looks of the competitors that went through our stage and those made after the match was over, I would say that you would get more than a few to sign up for a 10K. Or doing a modified route using repeat stages for an 8K. This might be more feasible and attract more competitors than a 10K.

10K ?

When me and the boys were racing hare scrambles, the Black Coal National and the Mid-South series ran on the same course near Lynnville IN about a month apart. These were the closest races to home and we always hit them both. Same exact course, but the Mid-South series ran it backwards (opposite direction) from the Black Coal National.

All the obstacles are vastly different when coming at them from the other direction.

Just some "food for thought"

Absolutely.

Thatís why theyíre called Run-n-Guns. Beside We run loops all the time.

Just did 16 on a track today.

But donít make any special consideration for me. You donít need any more headaches.

I will offer it when I open registration. Only difference to me is need a different score card and how to deal with prizes.

So I was doing some web research on some gear suggestions for run & gun, and just happened to come across this so for fun clicked on it:

Stimpy, any time line for the sign up link. Yeah, I know you just got back and are trying to recover. Just asking to put this thread back at the top.

TAK, if you looked at the photos for the Rock Castle RNG, on page 3, IIRC, there was a guy shooting what looked to be a Mini 14.

ooh if there was I'm not spotting it. It's like playing 'where's Waldo'

Saw a gent with a bullpup I couldn't identify, and the guy with the HK/PTR .308, and lots of ARs...lots.

I can't decide if I want to invest more in my mini-14 or not. Need some more mags and a scope (also kicking around the idea of the accuStrut add on, and maybe the Hogue overmold stock).

Then I could be Team Retro Ruger Stainles Steel Strike Force Five, rocking my 1990's vintage S.S. Mini-14 Ranch Rifle and S.S. P89 !

I feel a theme would make it more fun

The fun is at the after match get together when everyone tells lies (or exaggerates) about their performance, makes most if not all of their excuses public, enjoys good food and beverages, and hides the fact that they are sore as hell but trying hard to keep from showing it.

However, at the inaugural RBGC RNG last year, there were 3 or 4 guys that dressed up in Russian military uniforms and carried combloc weapons that ran as a team (group). They had a good time, even breaking into a dance at the last obstacle. One of them was fully kitted out as infantry complete with steel pot and LBE extras.

It's 5 months away, Tac.

Even Matt is not that on the ball.

Maybe I will post a stage teaser soon.

And for clarity:

I *DO* throw an after-match party for the FAL match.

I *DO NOT* throw an after-match party for the Run-and-Gun.

Five months will be all used up in a flash.

You don't, but last year during the awards ceremony, there was a lot of talk on where to go and get together. You know, competitors being competitors, they have to blow off all that energy to counteract the adrenaline from the days exertions.

Stage 1 - IED

Stage rifle where indicated. Lay down on your back where indicated.
On buzzer load pistol and engage 5 targets (minimum 2 A/B hits to neutralize) through port.
Holster pistol and drag your buddy to your rifle.
Engage 5 rifle targets using movement as needed (minimum 2 A/B hits to neutralize).
No shoots are +30 seconds per no shoot, not per hit on a no shoot.

Took a friend from Texas to my LD range to give him a chance to shoot over 100 yards. After showing him how each rifle/scope comb worked and giving him ammo, I let him go.

I verified zero on my newly built MK 12 clone - 18" 1 in 7 med heavy profile in 5.56. On top is a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 1X6X24. Running Hornady Black 75gr OTM, the Vortex Ballistics program gave me a pretty awesome chart with each elevation hash mark was within 10 yards of the even yards of 300, 400, 500, and 600.

The ballistic chart was true to form and I was able to hit 18" square swingers out to 500 yards with no problem. Same for the steel silhouettes and IPSC A-C zone steel. Wasn't sure about the 600 yd hits though. It sounded like steel hit, but did see any movement with the swingers. Next time I will spray paint the 600's before I start shooting at them. Pretty pleased with the performance of the rifle and ammo.

Stage 2 - Primitives
Load your pistol and holster it. On the beep select (2) throwing weapons (knives or hatchets) and move to outline on the floor. Engage both close targets with your throwing weapons. Draw your pistol and engage the PAPER targets as you see them. (2) A/B hits needed to neutralize each target. (20 pistol min)

Select a shotgun from those available, load 5 rounds, engage a single clay target from each of the 5-stand throwers. (Ammo and shotguns provided)

Stage 5 - the box

On arrival RO will check clear rifle and pistol. RO will then take a measurement of a particular dimension on your rifle. You must then navigate the mud/wire crawl. Once at the box, on the beep, attempt to make (3) hits from each of (4) ports inside 'the box'. Your muzzle MUST be past the rear panel of the box when firing. You may ONLY fire 3 shots from each port. Once done in the box, clear rifle and ground it and make up any misses with your pistol on the reduced IPSC torso at 50 yards, standing.

12 rifle and X pistol depending on your rifle shooting.

Are all the pistol shots taken while still laying on your back?

Let's call this stage "da Choppa v 2.0". The box is sooooo mundane and non imposing a name. Of course if you paint it black inside and out you could call it "The Cooler".

Forgot to ask. Is this box sized for normal people or gelflings like kotengu?

It's a box, not something you get inside of, just big enough for the rifles, you'll see.

Those are just normal sized boxes to you. But for me it's just being able to get the rifle in!!!

And since you say it is way smaller than "Da Choppa", I guess you could call that stage the "Vego-Matic".

Everyone knows you can't hit anything past 50 yards with a Mini. Better not try it.

Even if you manage to make your hits, the AR fanbois might not let you drink their Bud Light Special Edition after the run.

Probably not on the rbgc.org page. I do not control that.

It WILL be in a thread on the rbgc.vbulletin.com forums.

And posted here as soon as I can.
