corroded ammo ...

happened Fri. a.m. ... approx. 9:30 ... temp approx 90 f. ... wind S. by S.W. approx 8 mph ...

I know someone would ask so there are the "details" ...

this was some corroded stuff that I tumbled back in the late spring ... typical corrision as seen in other post ... not quite as bad as some I've seen ...

10 or 12 rnds down range and this happened ... blew the bottom of the mag out as usual ... no other damage but I haven't pulled it down yet to be totally sure ... visual looks Ok ...

I won't say were it came from, or what the date code is, so as not to "trash" someones ammo deals ...

be safe ...

I'll keep this one around so's I remember not to shoot anymore of it ...

Even if' ya don't ant to say where it came from mebe you could post up the headstamp at least?

Also maybe cut the case in half and look for telltale signs of "interior" corrosion or the exact failure point?

It's not your ammo Mike ... close but no cigar ... ...

I'm just pointing out that any corrosion "can" be dangerous ... this ammo was not corroded badly at all ... I tumbled it for maybe an hour ...

this ammo had some "Pink" spots that are bad ju-ju (sp) ...

So, you are willing to let potentially dangerous ammo be purchased by unsuspecting Files members....And then you urge us to "be safe'??????

Hey jugz,,,,

That ammo don't look so bad,,,I'd keep shootin' it,,,then all the 'unsuspecting Files members' would know your taking thee same chances,,,

Anyway, I've had a few cases through the years, that looked fine come apart,,,it happens...

I know it's not mine, you aint been over to pick it up yet??
Don't worry though, when you do get this way I'll bring something else and leave the Nasty PORT home when we hit the range..

Funny thing is it doesn't really look bad aside from the obvious split..

If I get blinded by an ammo burn through, I am suing you!

PS, if it is unsafe, it is no deal at all.

Yup. I shoot leftie and wear Uvex Flex Seal safety goggles. They fit over my prescription glasses with enough room for airflow. May look goofy, but I've had stuff ding off them in shooting and non-shooting use.

My Thoughts [That are worth only what you pay for them]
If you tumble loaded ammo You polish the powder In the case right along with the Case! You wear off deterrent coatings and break down the size of the powder granules This results in the burn rate going UP possibly way Up,
If you have any left try and break some down and see if some of the powder as turned into Dust Inside the case???
If you break down say 10% of the charge you have 4-5 Gr of Bullseye equivalent intermixed with the Rest of the charge This could result in pressure going Hi enough to Initiate the rest to burn at a faster rate pushing pressure Off the scale..From what I can see of the Primer It is cratered and possibly flattened excessively...

Just My silly Idea!

ArfCom at bat :

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_42/303242_.html

Oft times I throw reloaded ammo into the vibrator for a little while to clean it up, especially if it is going into stash. I'll set some aside to fire as a control/test batch. To date, I've have no probs tumbling loaded rounds.

this thread sucks balls.

you start a thread complete with photos showing extreme failure with corroded ammo... AND refuse to give the identifying head stamp marks.

this is stupid because there are plenty of people who were getting AND tumbling corroded port with no problems. what you show above is a SERIOUS problem. if this is port, then the members need to know. if it is some other crap, the members ALSO need to know this info so they (we) know what to stay away from.

so since this thread sucks balls, its now closed.
