I've been wondering why you've been so quiet lately! Chiggers are only part of the reason you'll want to suffer with pants, FWIW. After my final test run last week I had to alter the course a little to make it easier because it was just physically impassable in some areas. But it's still pretty dang rough in a few spots.

I did knock down 4,000 spiderwebs with my face to clear the way, but I'm sure they'll all be built back bigger and better by match day. I didn't see any skunks, snakes, or bears though. Going first ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Hahahaha - good point!

You should have heard people bitching at the Night Stalker match last weekend when I simply swung a leg out and ducked and just kept right on running underneath their two "under" obstacles. Tall guys were not happy!

Some days it's good to be short. ;-)

It's a benefit match.

It *IS* hosted by and staffed (mostly) by and shot (mostly) by badasses.

But it is meant to raise money for the cause.

That took me 0.067 seconds longer than it should have. LOL

This joke is entirely too technical.

for Matt, I assumed a 2ft delta. I didn't plot it.

This. In spades. The experiences I have had and the people I've met that I treasure most seem to be a series of random dominos all started from ROing or MDing. But the longer I'm on this earth the more I believe that nothing is random, and there is some invisible force pulling us together.

Or I'm just damn lucky to stumble into such a group of fine people.

I just got a practiscore email once again threatening me with mental games at the match.

I can't even remember to shoot left-handed, and ran past an entire stage...I have a feeling I will be shooting a lot of extra targets and incurring penalties for my mental deficiencies.

For everyone else: I sent an email to all competitors this morning through Practiscore with all the final details I think you need to know before the match. Let me know if you didn't get it or if you have any other questions.

And I screwed up some details using copy/paste between the two matches, so just for clarity's sake: the 5k is on Saturday, September 8th, and the 10k is on Sunday, September 9th. Sorry for the confusion!

A word of warning: this is not your typical match, in which I design stages so most people succeed. To give you a taste of 5th Group life, the shooting stages are pretty complex. The shooting itself is fairly simple - IF you were fresh (not exhausted) and had all the time in the world. But you don't. And you won't be.

It will be a rare person that finishes the entire match without failing at SOMETHING. I'm guessing there will be a few who fail to complete EVERY shooting stage.

When that happens, keep in mind 5th Group is not successful because they never fail. They are successful because they KEEP GOING despite failing over and over again, and being faced with situations MUCH more dire than simply failing a stage at a match.

Then pick yourself up, gather your gear, and trudge forward to the next challenge. I promise you, you will NOT be the only one to fail. Embrace it. Learn from it. And keep going.

Shooting scores are up. Running scores haven't been 'included' due to a bug - but Matt is working on it.

I see three things that should be adjusted if possible:

1. Kelly wore plates iirc, so she deserves credit for being in Operator class instead of Lightfighter

2. Jimmy Nutt also wore plates, and gets Operator class instead of Lightfighter

3. Jeff Merten chickened out and did NOT wear plates (which, given his condition after the run, turns out to have been a *very* good decision...), so he should be listed in Lightfighter category.

And now back to your scheduled programming...

Oh thanks but that was just a thin piece of aluminum, the purpose of it is to keep the front pocket straight so that the Velcro will adhere to it. The only thing it’s rated for would be airsoft

Got it.

You are already amazing, so I just assumed you were kicking my ass in the running *while* wearing plates, too.

Hey, Stimpy -

Look at the 10K scores if you will. I can't figure out how Trevor Saunders, with lower "Final" points than guys listed above him, finishes in his place.

Is there more of a "bug", or is there a scoring mechanism that escapes me?

So...

If you want to be "effective", you should be less fat than me:

Stage 1 = 7/69

Stage 2 = 14/69

Stage 3 = 3/69

Stage 4 = 39/69

Stage 5 = 15/69

Stage 6 = 39/69

Stage 7 = 58/69

So big slide for shooting performance when I couldn't catch my breath or think straight. This is also where I learn that passing two people at *just* the wrong time gave me zero wait times when I desperately needed the rest - and probably didn't need the 60 seconds (or whatever) for my run time.

Even though Melanie Trumble and Todd Banus aren't here on the Files, I'd like to publicly thank them for noticing that I was nearly in deep doo-doo when I got in. They got me water, gatorade, heart-rate and body-temp checks, and made sure I got back okay after I went to take a cold shower.

Class acts.

As an almost-aside, I'd like to thank Bruce for being the first person who asked me how I felt - which led me to cursing him (with love ) and drawing the attention of the above-mentioned folks.

You did not look good...but you did kinda tell me fo. I should have kept hassling you and I am glad they did so.

You were a machine yesterday on our stage. That was hard and I was glad to have you there!

I have no idea what the 'Final' column represents.

All columns in the "Overall Shooting" should be ignored except % and Points. And maybe Penalties if you want to see how your total penalties stack up against everyone else. Overall Time is just the sum of all your shooting time, and is pretty meaningless for us. Final is your overall time plus your overall penalties, which is also meaningless. The overall total can be lower, but if you get beat on individual stages your points will be lower. The individual stage scores and combination of those points assigned are what matters.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the match shirt is still available online at https://www.shredderlife.com/shop/ until 9/14 for anybody that wasn't able to get the size they wanted. Thanks to everyone involved for coming out and supporting the SFA Chapter 38 and the Legion! DOL!

It must have been a good time because although my back, hips and trapezius still hurt, I enjoyed myself immensely.

I'm not sure which I liked more though- watching Thomas run it on Saturday with my dad, or running/shooting on Sunday and crawling away with such a special trophy after competing against people I respect so much.

Thank you to all the staff. You are the faces of a match, and even as shitty as the weather was on Sunday, you greeted competitors with smiles and encouraging remarks.

I had a feeling you were going to win the thing when you came to our stage (Stage 6 = Horse Soldier) at nearly the end of the run and after that brutal hill and SMOKED your run in 70 seconds. Best time of the weekend.

You deserve that trophy and recognition. Nice run, man.

Had a fairly solid performance for 3 stages.

Screwed up 2 stages.

And was VERY gased for 2 stages.

Took a good 2 hours to feel anything resembling normal and a good hour for my HR to get under 100.

Overall, one the most physically challenging RnG’s I’ve run.

But still happy with my performance.

Keep up the Good work Matt.

Hey, Mike!

Did you hear that a certain person won the Rifle Raffle?

Damned good thing I had you put your name on your tickets.

I don't know who the SF guy who owned and/or shot that thing at this match, but he's a stud for using the FN SAW grip on the AR... Might be a new fave rifle.

I've been looking more and more at the stage scores, etc.

I'd like to shout out to Kelly. I was feeling bad for her when she showed up to the second dummy drag of the day. No problem... she kicked my ass dragging the dummy that had to weigh about twice what she does.

I told that to April. She said, "Is she the one that runs her own match, and runs the old gun thing in uniform and heels?"

I said "Yep. She's the one. And when she got back from running this match, and I was laying there trying to keep from dying, she went to the grocery store to buy food so she could cook for 40 people - which she did. And it was awesome."

April looked at me and said, "I'm sorry, honey." [... you're getting your ass beaten by that young thing ...].

Yes. They had one of the kids pull numbers. First number came up, and the ticket holder wasn't present. Trevor checked his texts for anyone who might have said that they were late, but would be coming to the drawing. Nothing.

Kid pulled a second number. It was my first ticket.

Now Rockcastle gets to ship my first rifle AND my new rifle to me.

No plates Brother, just a whole lot of HEAVY ammo and an FAL!!! So LightFighter class for me.

Did I mention I carried an FAL?

You are the man. That was easily 10 pounds more than I carried.

Did I tell you that while I was overheating and sucking that I carried 3 liters of water that I forgot I had - and didn't touch?

My shit was broken, and I didn't really realize it. Went 15th percentile in Stage 7... so the mental degradation was real. I *did* remember that the Gnome's hat was red, but I couldn't figure out why that mattered...

I haven't even seen them all yet, so I probably shouldn't commit myself like this. But I'm going to go ahead and say that this is my favorite picture from the match. This is just after he came up the big hill, and I'm pretty sure I can see what's going through his head right now.

The fact that he does it all with a Reese's shirt on just makes it that much more funny! "Body by Reece's" :-)
