And this ^ is the coolest part!

The only thing I don't like about it is that it continues to raise the Match Director bar. Between your awesome handmade trophies and Kelly's cookies and hand-written thank-you notes, I just can't keep up!

FIFY

I put my TU note in the man-room. She signed it 'Eowyn'.

Classic! I love it when we find people that just "fit". It's like there is an irresistable, all powerful force drawing us together.

Yep, the 'get its' are the best, but the "don't get its" can be fun also.

Jill will tell you a story about our previous RBGC CRO (God bless him, the range we use is named after him) who was talking to her one day...

CRO "Why does your husband like that horrible rifle?"
Jill (laughs...then realizes question is serious) "Have you asked him?"
CRO "No." (walks away)

I have tried to think of a corporeal, non-person, object that has brought me more happiness than my FAL. The folks that like this thing are...fun.

This is actually the easier of several handmade trophy ideas I have been banging around in my head.

The other is machining an inverted FAL emblem in a piece of tool steel, hardening that and a matching ram piece, and using a hydraulic press to mash used brass into the same shape, but not molten...just mashed into shape.

But the introduction of the 3D printer made the casting much simpler...so I went that direction.

I was thinking a few minutes ago handling the chunk of brass that I could make blingy medallions easily enough and just stamp the places and classes into the polished faces of the lettering.

Making things can be maddening.

Or 3D print up tabs with the placing. Then attach them to the reverse face of the mold blank. Or better yet, print up challenge coin sized medallions. Front face could be whatever - RBGC FAL MATCH.... Then print second medallion face with the date and placing. Blank reverses could be of a polished finish and sold for a minor fee - all monies going to RBGC scholarship fund (or other program as desired). I would definitely buy a couple.

Small text is a huge problem as the petrobond get stuck in the cracks/crevices. I am having a hard time figuring out how to taper text in blender to get what I want. Fortunately the 3D printer software adds enough that it works for larger text OK.

Quadrupled the value (monetarily) of the FAL by adding an NX8.

Nice addition. Is it truly that much better than the competitor's 30mm tubes?

And one last thing. Did you get your new rainy day contacts yet?

I already have a ton of contacts.

I blame Sean Murphy...he's a good salesman.

The rifle is shooting almost 2 MOA with this scope and privi ammo. Surprised me...I think mostly it is just the reticle is so much better than the hog.

Did not get a chance to stretch it's legs though as there was a match on silhouette today.

Did meet another FAL owner who plans to shoot the match. He has a Century metric on an inch kit with a butthole stock at the moment. I have to send him some links for parts to buy so we can fix that poor unloved rifle.

Abomination experimentation failed. I'm putting the shot out 6 MOA Imbel barrel back on it and will shoot irons for this match. Maybe I'll hit something every once in awhile if I launch enough rounds downrange.

I probably don't have any 8mm ammo that isn't steel core anyway.

Matt, If you would like to borrow a riFAL I can gladly bring you a spare or two, with irons or optics.

I know you will kick my butt anyway and it will hurt worse if you do it with a 6MOA riFAL, so really I offer this in my own self interest

Thank you, sir - but I've ridden this horse since the beginning and there's no way I'm changing now. There have been plenty of times I've failed my rifle, so it would just be wrong of me to toss her aside the first time she starts to falter.

Any news on the shirts? Went to the website but saw nothing specific about this match. Or is there a special link to the shirts?

I just last night got the sponsor's artwork, so I hope to have the shirt art to shredder tonight.

My daughter has the 4H NC State tournament that day so I'm gonna have to sit this one out: ( At the regional tournament last weekend her rifle team got 1st place and she placed high enough to compete as an individual. Also, she got 2nd place in recurve archery so she's competing in the state finals in that as well. Kind of sucks because it looks like this year is going to be epic....... Return of the hi power match, MGs, prizes made of last year's spent brass...........
No 2 year in a row 1st place finishes this time.

I had some down time today so decided to put the old FAL back to its original (now 6 MOA) configuration, iron sights and all. It went really smoothly - I was pretty proud of myself for remembering all the build details, finding all of my tools, and then how the old girl looked and felt as-issued.

I put all my tools away, cleaned everything up, and dug out my old Imbel handguards from the part stash.

Only to realize I forgot the f$&*ing handguard ring.

And she laughed...

But here she is, in all her former glory. It just feels right - like coming home to an old friend.

Yep. Got tired of a front sight nub and switched to the Izzy so I could have a normal 2-dot front sight with a short barrel. Or at least that's what I think I remember from the last time I shot iron sights. I still haven't test fired and zero'd it yet.

Good eye!

Have we discussed distances here?? We're all worked up about trophies and JimmyNuttô t-shirts but I didn't read anything about how far we are stretching the rifles out to. Or maybe I glazed over it because I left KY at 10:30pm, got home at 5:30am, threw in a load of laundry and went to work zzzzzzzz....

I've got a shirt on the way. Looking forward to having this conversation with my husband the first time I wear it

That ^ is one of the best posts on the Files.

Got winning on multiple levels - just like the author of it.
