What kind of 7.62mm is this??
Just bought 1000 rounds of it.
Seller says it's South African but I don't trust him. Headstamp: HE , 7.62mm Had a few feed problems in my L1A1 Lithgow and I'm not sure I'll continue to use it. //Anders

HF was Singapore (green sealant on the primer) I have a vague recollection HE was also from there. Excellent ammunition (Aussie supplied plant) that I still have some of. It may be the angle of your pics but the projectiles look worng to me (for Singaporean). Can you snap a pic of the headstamp.

Opened a new box and it was mixed...both HE and HF with green primer sealant.... so I guess you are right.
The bullets are quite strange.....more like a blunt nose than a sharp point on all other 7.62mm NATO I have seen. Tried a few 100's of it today. If I loaded a magazine with 20 rounds the first round didn't extract and ejected properly....the rest of the 19 rounds fired allright. Tried several magazines and hade the same problems with them all. If I loaded a magazine with 18 rounds it worked Ok from the start. Didn't tried it from the bench but I managed to put down man sized military pop-up targets at 100 meters with zero problems so I guess for zombie hunting it wil do fine. The HE/HF ammo was almost half the price from MEN surplus. Should I buy more of the HE/HF? //Anders

Ammo has been repacked and the label on the 20-round box says 155gr CMJ.....???
//Anders Ps. My Lithgow is ex-SPF so it's a bit strange it doesn't like the ammo :-)

Yep... something not right at all about those projectiles. It should look very very much like Aussie F4. I can't recall now if the HF used 144 or 150gn projectiles now. But NOT 155.

The bullet.....doesn't look like 7.62mm NATO bullets to me.
![]() What do you think......should I continue to use the 800 rounds I have left? The fired cases look OK so the pressure is propably not excessive. Will NOT buy any more of this ammo.....will stick to Swede surplus and German MEN. //Anders

What diameter are those bullets? They look very similar to some I pulled from VKT 7.62x54R.

It's smaller than a 7.62x39 bullet I checked on so it's not .312. //Anders

OK, now I know what bullet it is.
It's made by Frontier Bullets in South Africa. http://www.frontierbullets.co.za/cmj_bullets.html This means the ammo is reloaded using surplus Singapore cases/primers. Anyone that knows a company that do large scale reloading and that uses Frontier CMJ (complete metal jacket)?? //A

CMJ? Complete metal jacket most likely. "Green Ammo" for indoor shooting or other areas that have a "lead concern".
Not a NATO spec round in that matter and I see the feed issue in a FAL but many other weapons may feed that just fine. It must be some pretty recent mfg to not just use a lead core, exposed base NATO FMJ. |

What do you think......should I continue to use the ammo in my FAL?
The fact that the first two rounds from the magazine failed to feed/eject properly must happen since the ammo is underpowered the friction from the rounds in the fully loaded magazine is "too much" for the bolt....?? From round 18 it works OK......but I have to adjust the gas all the way to #3. //A

Clearly NOT a reload with the Factory Primer crimp and seal in place.
Could be loaded up on NEW Singapore primed cases or simply loaded by the Singaport plant with those "CMJ" bullets. Either way... not a reload on a fired cartridge case. |

Pulled down singapore, then loaded with the weird bullets. Not a completely uncommon thing as we seen military ammo get pulled down for components frequently for various reasons. So that is my guess.
