TFP

Looks like a little putty work around the RH side screw bushing.
EDIT: OK, the grey area appears to just be raw wood where the old finish has wore off.

Otherwise a decent set.

I didn't see putty, I thought it was just lost finish from some solvent. Unless the putty is just really in close around the hole. The surrounding area had matching grain under what I thought was spoiled finish.

Of course I could be wrong.

Did you think it was just really in tight around the hole?

The one handguard has some fantastic grain.

I’ll have a look when I get home , but I can not remember seeing any “putty” repairs to these hand guards.
The only authorised repair to the wood work would have been a wood patch or to fill large dents with melted shellac. Defiantly no “plastic wood “ filler

the only finish applied to this wood is Linseed oil..

yep... no "putty", shellac, or wood patch,,
just wood..
could be a bit of staining from weapon oil used on the metal fittings.

Are all of the British solid wood handguards marked with the B and arrow? Just wondering if the "B" was for a specific manufacturer or for "British."

I think most all have the arrow, but the should either be marked B for BSA or D/E for Enfield. They also usually have a two digit date next to the letter stamp.

B is for BSA.. Enfield made handguards would have an E of some sort. Most handguards are so worn though that there are no markings on them at all.

Aussies will say either SLAZ or MA on them.

The handguards sold for about $170 US dollars. Wow, that is way more than I expected an unmatched pair would fetch.

Winning bid: GBP 109.51 [ 12 bids ]
Approximately US $170.82

It has been two years since I've seen a solid wood set with intact British proof marks for sale. I would have bid more except the listing gave conflicting information about shipping to the US.

I just posted a pair of nicely marked "B" British handguards. I'm asking $175 but I am open to offers or trades.
