On the pistol course, will it be start from the draw? I see a mandatory reload so I assume mag pouches.

For FALs, the two white plates in the red circle are about 75 yards and must each be hit through the top 6 holes of the V-tac barrier. We will not use the bottom 3 holes.

The white plate in the yellow circle is 100 yards for the Rifleman Challenge. From standing with rifle low ready, you must hit it in less than 5 seconds. You can stand, sit, kneel, or go prone, but you must hit it in under 5 seconds. (This is a lot harder than it sounds )

No draw. Start with pistol low ready. I will have a table there for a shooting line. Spare mag can be laying on the table in front of you or in a pouch/pocket if you prefer. Shoot the three circles first, then the two silhouettes, then the two men on the outside. The man in the center is the last shot.

You must start with 7 or less rounds, so a mag change is required. I don't care how many rounds you have in the second mag. Fastest time wins.

...and for the win!

Our very own Gunplumber, Mr. T. Mark Graham of Arizona Response Systems is sending some goodies for the prize table!

https://arizonaresponsesystems.com/

Thank you Mark

PS - At least one of our shooters this weekend will be using an ARS built & refinished StG on DSA which I have personally laid eyes on and is a beautiful piece of work by Mark.

The pistol range is now officially approved. Two 8 year old boys and a Red Ryder can't be wrong

The forecast is looking good for Saturday. No rain for a change. Its going to be a great day.

I will be bringing some of our famous Owensboro side dishes to go with Mikes barbecue. I saw him at work with his smoker grill last weekend and he knows what hes doing.

I shot the COF last weekend. I agree with Mike, its a fun course and will add some structure to the shoot.

Im the ARS built StG shooter mentioned above. The rifle really is beautifully put together and shoots great. Thanks for the good work Mark, and also for the prize contribution.

I'm looking forward to a great day. Actually started packing the car last night as I have too much to do and too little time to do it in tonight. We'll be leaving in the AM as the rooster crows, the plan is to get there by 9:30 CST. The wife will be groggy and maybe a little grumpy, having not been to bed after work at that point but the pool will certainly improve her mood. A nap on the road may help too.
I don't have a GP built rifle to bring but will haul along a couple of my mutts.

Well, for anyone who could not attend, you really missed out. But don't take my word for it, look at the Para fun pic (recoil bruising), that's some fun. Great meeting all of the fine folks who did attend yesterday. Literally, it was a blast. Big thanks to Invictus77 for all the hard work in putting this event together, and for the hospitality. Also thanks to Yovinny, for the nose cut, and ARS for the prizes.

Had an excellent day, Mike. The wife and I very much appreciate the invite and the warm welcome. Your property is beautiful, I'm envious, your BBQ is top shelf, and the company felt like family.
Thanks again for hosting the event, opening up your home, and doing all the hard work in the days prior. And thanks to Jeri for her hard work and contributions as well as putting up with all the jabbering males!

And thanks to all who attended for the fellowship and sharing of the love for our hobby. It's people and events like this one that make owning and maintaining hundreds of pounds of equipment over the years and through several moves worth it.

Finally, a shout out to Mark at ARS for the goodie box he donated to the event. Thanks, Mark! There was an example of your work there that looked beautiful and performed very nicely and it was neat to have a little of you there with us.

Mike,

Thank you and your lovely wife for putting on the mid-south FAL shooting event of the year. The shoot was a great success from the perspective of all of us who attended. It is always a pleasure to meet fellow FALfilers face to face, plus we all got a chance check out some fantastic examples of our favorite rifles, engage in a little friendly competition / display of marksmanship, have a tech session to troubleshoot, construct, repair or modify our rifles, eat some excellent BBQ, and partake in FAL-withery with other enthusiasts. Lots of very nice shootin' iron on display [even beyond FALs].

Your place is really special, again, thanks for sharing it and making a wonderful day for those of us who could attend.

A special thanks to Gunplumber and ARS for supplying some great FAL swag. Again to Mike for the FAL tools and rifle constuction supervision and to Yovinny for his expertise in head spacing / locking shoulder installation.

Glad to see it was a fine event. Not that I was doubting. I had a short-notice trip come up last week and I didn't get in in time Friday to drive down. I'll have to keep my eyes open for any other nearby shoots.

That is as far as we went on the build as he was planning to take it home and work on all "the smalls" himself. He really has the FAL bug and wants to learn all about them. Today we met up for lunch so I could get his plates back to him. He shared with me he found a "special piece" in the bag of smalls that should not be there???

I know I'm not the first and certainly won't be the last, but dammit it seems now he will be coming back over to my place again in a couple weeks. I am still deciding if I should charge him extra for this very, special and valuable lesson in FAL building.....

Yup, the "special piece" was the hand-guard ring.

I don't know how many times I checked to make sure mine was on before torquing. And on the one I helped a friend build. "Where's the ring?" "Don't forget the ring!"

Don't feel bad - I've long-passed 4000 builds and last week my sandblaster (retired neighbor), brought a barrelled receiver to me - "this looks different"

Yeah, I had the ring on. Backwards.

Haven't done that in the last thousand or so builds.

Hey Mike, maybe safe to say you've not really screwed one together until you've forgot the handguard retainer ring. Throw me into that group too.

Just now viewed this thread, Mike.

Did anyone accomplish this in the allotted time ?

If there is a winner, a proper t-shirt will be sent.

Actually five of us did hit it under 5 seconds in the first round, but in deference to your Rifleman event, I used a 3/4 sized white silhouette, which was a helluva lot easier to find than the black 6" circle you made me shoot at in Oregon for your event

The winner in the first round was member Southern7.62 with a time of 2.62 seconds. We were a small group however and so I let those who wanted to do so try again later. The fastest time of the day was hkshooter. He shot 4.04 the first round, but followed that up with a smokin' fast 2.20 for the win.

....and speaking of scores, hkshooter also had the fastest time of the day on the V-tac barrier and the pistol match. Way to go bro

Your call.

1 )Who gets the prize ?

2 ) Was it with irons, or cheating scope ?

For the/your Rifleman event, Southern7.62 did it in the first round.

I did not write down irons or optics in our little fun match, but if memory serves correctly, he shot it with irons on a para.

Someone can correct me if my memory is wrong, but yep, Southern762 IMHO.

Southern762 won it with irons, I got it with optic.
