FAL on Coonan receiver by ARS

Just got notified that Mark at ARS has shipped my completed FAL on a new Coonan receiver. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas.

Have a ton of rifles, mostly bolt and lever but this is my first foray into FAL land and I can't wait to feed it some ammo!

ARS has been a joy to deal with. Mark is extremely knowledgeable and if I sent a part or thought about a part that was substandard or known to not work well Mark did not mince words on me -- I like that because I'm an old guy and did not grow up in a namby-pamby world and much prefer things that way.

Trying to post some pics here so bear with me, if his work is even half of what you guys say it is it will be the best of the best. Thanks so much for turning me on to Mark and ARS....who also, by the way, delivered on time as promised -- a rare thing these days!

Thank you Richard for that quick and easy fix on picture sizing!

Nice stick.

Oh my word....

FAL on Coonan receiver built by ARS came in today. I cannot believe the quality of work Mark at ARS sent me -- absolutely, positively, one of the most beautiful pieces of gunsmith work I've ever held in my hands.

EVERYTHING on this rifle appears brand spanking new and I cannot wait to put it on the bench. Now, I've never held an FAL in my hands before but I have handled a TON of other rifles. When racking the bolt it feels like glass, trigger is as it should be and not even one screw head has been buggered.

Thanks again for all the help from this forum, I'm already planning build number two......Now all I need to do is mount the EOTech I've got for it and put some rounds downrange.

ARS even sent me the target Mark used to dial in the iron sights and cleaned and blued the main magazine for me. Just freaking amazing work from a guy who didn't know me from Adam six months ago, cannot say enough good about him.

I'd love to post them but.....there really weren't any before pictures, just an upper receiver and a whole pile of parts that looked nowhere near that nice!

Give us more detail regarding the parts used. Did you Johnny Cash the parts or use a complete kit?
I am looking forward to the range report.

No problem HBR. I thought any hope of having one was dead years ago. Wanted one since the 80's but had never even SEEN one up close and personal at gun shows from Mackinaw City to Grand Rapids in Michigan.

Then one day happened to be on phone with a Coonan rep and teasingly made a remark about FN-FAL's. He asked if I knew they were making these receivers again, ejector block installed (I had read 20 years back that was a stumbling block to building...) and that parts kits were still available. I just about died and then asked about inch or metric receivers and he straightened me out on that. It was about a six month wait but I immediately ordered two. I then realized I knew NOTHING about FAL building and asked if he could point me to this forum -- which I had also never heard of.

I came here and lurked for a bit, found ARS and gunthings.com and promptly ordered a kit from Brad there (Imbel).

Then corresponded with Mark and told him some of the parts I wanted on it. He told me in no uncertain terms which would work and which were shit, something I appreciate VERY much. Mark at ARS then built my rifle and sent it back EXACTLY within the timeframe he said he would........and I was ASTOUNDED that the pile of beaten, old parts I sent him came back in the form of a brand new rifle......BRAND NEW rifle. Flawless.

Just waiting for a day to get out and shoot, have an EOTech for it, SUIT would be in the future and deer season is coming.....

Oh yeah....I have one more of those receivers left and it's not for sale!

Really thanks for the help guys, I'm here on almost a daily basis now lurking and reading and who knows what the future holds ...

I'm a longtime member over at Cast Boolits and have tried to get some of those guys interested but have gotten a frosty reception for some reason on this rifle....

Hoping you get your rifle out before the snow flies for a test run!

The clientele at Cast Boolits vs. the clientele at The FAL Files are different.

For one thing, Filers would never stand for misspelling *bullets* in naming a site.

Have always liked the logo.
