Don't see these with matching uppers and lowers very often.

No reserve auction too. I'll watch this one.

Hello All

I don't know the US market for the L1A1 but I am quiet surprise by the cost of this one...
Here you can reach a fal (reg B means original with no modifications) for more or less 1100 €
https://www.stmilitaria.com/fusils-f...ree-world.html

A Belgian model

A reg C (without special permit only your shooting licence) a little more expensive due to internal modifications.

Best Regards

Well, it has more to do with the availability.

FALs, even the L1A1, were classed as "machine guns" some time ago, and can no longer be imported for civilian sale. Therefore, finding one that has the original receiver, let alone matching, is somewhat rare.

Hello

Ok I understand the situation...
Here, you cannot reach a true FAL with full automatic fire (like sub machine gun) reg A Level.
Only FAL L1A1 or other FAL with modification for semi automatic fire only are on the civilian market.
Thanks !

ZR

That would look nice next to an all matching Lithgow in the safe...

Unfortunately, the laws here mostly do not allow for "modification for semiautomatic only fire". Many other countries allow for the automatic-sear slot in the FAL receiver to be welded up or filled in...the law here still considers it a machine gun.

OK stupid question, but.... If any of you guys bought this would you put better looking wood furniture on it & have it re-blued? Or would that ruin the value?

Refinishing of any sort hurts the value...Change wood if you want but keep original so you can swap it back....Original finish even if worn is worth more...That being said, weren't Brit rifles suncorite coated from factory????

"Re-blued"? You can't be serious.

Watching this one, but what I want to know is IF this would not still be classified as an unregistered machine gun with the original upper? Kind of crappy pictures, but I didn't see any import markings (although this might have been imported before those were required) but if it still has the original upper receiver, aren't ALL those considered machine guns? Or was the fact of it being an L1A1 considered as being made from the factory as a semi-auto weapon without any provision for select fire?

I believe importer markings have been required since at least 1968, and there's no way any "surplus" L1A1s would have been making their way to the American civvie market before then.

Perhaps as a "bringback" from Vietnam or somewhere, maybe? But that still does not address the receiver as being considered an illegal machine gun, or would these have been considered as originally being made as a semi-auto only rifle?

I just looked in on this auction in the final minutes, a couple of bidders ran it up an additional $500 in the last fifteen minutes. I hadn't noticed it earlier but something was up with the pistol grip, in addition to the other items mentioned by limey...and the question of the import marks still makes it a question. Still pretty cool with the matched upper and lower, you don't see that very often.
