The butthole Century Imbel "L1A1 Sporters" are still out there.

Had a buddy call me the other day, he had found one at a gunshow. Imbel receiver, cut down barrel, butthole stock, the whole enchilada.
I about shat myself when he described it, but it was exactly what we all kinda hope to find.
I had always thought they had all dried up, so there's hope yet.

Schweet!

I had Gunplumber perform rescue surgery on mine:

Still needed PG screw but I just HAD to take a pic. She shoots as she should despite the CAI hacking.

They pop up here on a regular basis.

A lot of folks bought them back in the day and now that folks are aging, they are being sold off.

Out of the closets they come.

I looked at that rifle a few months ago. could not get it to break open to see what bolt and carrier were in it. something going on with the take down lever not pulling the plunger back.

gun

Probably the bolt wasn't lubricated and was frozen in place.
looking at ejection port will show bolt carrier.
The ones I played with all had trigger troubles.
too long of a trigger plunger spring.

Well someone must have noticed your attempt. It was very gunky and lots of oil everywhere. Dirty oil. The rear sight won't budge. Can't get the HG screw out.....might need to get some kroil. The ad did say there were some rust issues, but it was very minor. Just a rifle that sat dirty (maybe even built from a cosmo'd up kit) for a long time. The parts are great, lots of stamps. The bolt carrier is imaculate.

I thought that spring looked long coming out of there. First one I have taken down that had a hollow thumb hole stock. Maybe that is a thing? This stock is different from any I have handled before. Taylor made for a FAL sporter. What do you call the little brass screw seats? They are embedded in the "cheap" hollow plastic thumb hole stock. Looong trigger return spring.

Dambuster here, Going about this somewhat backwards, but, this is, I think, my rifle. no pics yet, but as described. Imbell rcvr, thumbhole stock( a brief thing in the 90s)I suspect a cut down barrel/ no flash hider. barrel still has a notch in the end. Plan is to restore it to what it ought to look like, not the PC version. Slaughters build above is where I want to end up.
I found some metric mags in Mesquite, and it is a good shooter. Lots to learn, but I'll get the rifle where I want it.

There you go mang. Git 'er done.

There's plenty of good FAL 'smiths on this board, but Gunplumber really knows his stuff when it comes to making FALs look and run right.
Closer to home is Randy Klein AKA Sledgehammer here on the 'files.

Everything FAL related you'll find here. Parts, services, clowns like me whose greatest asset is my big mouth, and others in between.

About like this one I found sitting in the back of a local gun store, Butt hole is off and gone, lower is a 61 Brit, now fitted with a 61 Brit butt stock, bolt and carrier about match, at least I believe they do, came with a buggered barrel cut off and threaded, and what appears to be the original non molested Brit marked barrel that matches everything else Brit.

Going up to Mark tomorrow, will get around to refinishing all the wood when he gets done with it, changing out barrel, refinish etc.

The one beside it, is one Mark did for me last year, getting it stocked up now, when I have time to work on my own stuff, which is rare now.

Uhh huh, funny words there, boy. Good thing I can't lift my leg that high otherwise I kick your ass but good.

I'd like to find me one of those frankenfals but I guess I gotta go to gun shows to do that.

And you know it, YH, so don't be afraid to say it: I bring so much class to this place that y'all almost have to drink your pablum with your pinky in the air.

Folks from Canada just be fellow Americans that talk funny is all.

I got this one from a lgs in Tucson in the consignment section collecting dust for one hell of a decent price.

The reason I'd pay $475.00 because I don't want to change it.

I want it in all it's majestic ugliness!

It's not worth it to me to change it!! Or buy one to part it out. And It's not worth $700 to me either.

I got a 4 digit Cuban triangle lower with non swivel wood stock in a Sarco $195.00 kit, I'd rather build it!

The Centry Sporter is sort of an Icon!!

I see them occasionally around here for $600-700. I ended up grabbing one off gunbroker for $900, had imbel receiver, bunch of spare mags and had been deneutered. Figured it was a decent deal.

People dislike century a lot but for every lemon out there they have 3-4 other great guns.(my opinion so take with grain of shire salt LOL)

Well I just paid 450 for a century L1a1 last wee with 3 inch mags

Last two things to do is get that loud ass muzzle break off of it and add the dust cover it was missing when I bought it!

Here it sits next to my STG58 I built in 2006.

Hey, root, me too. I just recently picked up an Aussie/Imbel with wood for $450.00 from a guy walking around a gun show and couldn't get it sold. I paid and left quickly. Is having 3 Aussie's too much?

Three inch guns to much?
NOPE!

Just proves the gems are still out there if you are really looking.

I had one back in 2000 that I paid 400 for and sold it to a friend when I bought a house so this was a no brainer.

Did just what you did Fuun063.
Accept I asked twice as I wasn't sure I had the price right the 1st time LOL

The L1A1 I sold was what had me build the STG58 on a IMBEL. Even for a Century gun it had me in love with the FAL.

I lucked out both times too, no unibrow gun.

Just waiting on the dust cover to show up so I can check zero on it.

Have one myself.. and I still need to get the flash hider back on it but she runs( I'd need to thread& cut the key way I haven't the tools or knowledge for either). I wish the damn techs at Enfeild would have chromed the entire bore! By the time I bought it, the butthole stock was long gone and I'm not fussed. It has the 'Made in Canada" yellow markings and the metric mag beak.I had thought about selling it a few years ago and Now I am glad I didn't. I still hate the damn receiver locking lever though: I can never get a good grip on the damn thing to open the rifle.

Does it look like this?

I contacted CAI and they said this one was made in Sept. 1995 in Canada then imported as a "sporter" by CAI and sold in April of 1996.

It looks much better in a non-sporter configuration!

Thumbholes ended in '94. When the Dems passed the AW ban (domestic), ATF reinterpreted thumbholes from exempt to not-exempt. So 95 CAI came out with their flimsy plastic stock and other shit US parts.

Plan is to restore it to what it ought to look like, not the PC version. Slaughters build above is where I want to end up.
I found some metric mags in Mesquite, and it is a good shooter. Lots to learn, but I'll get the rifle where I want it.
Yep, I know that deal. Wait til you see it all done.

If you want wood, I'd suggest you shoot YH a PM. He does some mighty fine work with surplus . You won't be disappointed.
