Question L1A1 barrel weight question

I have a British kit asembeled on a inch Imbel reciever. It was assembeled with a replacment barrel. It was not threaded as it was during the ban. Its full length 21 inches or slightly longer so the threads where not cut off. (I don't think)The inside diameter of a English L1A1 flash hider is .590.-.591. The diameter of standard barrels is around .590. These are metric as this is all I have to measure. I have a friend who has an Imbel kit with a British flash hider and the barrel measures .590 also. To be clear this is the diameter behind the threads.

What I have on my British L1A1 barrel diameter is .615 the full length from muzzle to the handgaurds. I didnt measure under the hangaurds but it looks the same size behind the gas block then tapers steadily larger all the way to the breach . So even if it was threaded the flash hider would not fit. On one of the barrel flats are the capitol letters MF. ALso there is wat looks like the letter T jus above it bt not on the flat. There is also what looks like a T on the bottom of the barrel just in front of swivel. What do I have here? Is this a heavy barrel ? Did heavy barrel have a threaded barrel or did the flash hider attach along with the bipod some other way?

From the sounds of it your barrel doesn't seem to be from a L1A1/C1A1 rifle.

If the barrel is 21 inches long and it doesn't have threads at the muzzle then it won't be a L1A1/L2A1HB barrel.

Even thought the L2A1 barrel is heavier both the L1 and L2 barrels have a 'step' about 2.5 inches back from the muzzle and there is also a keyway that starts at the end of the threads which is used to retain the flash eliminator.

Here's a quick pic of a L1A1 barrel showing the step, threads an keyway, dose yours look like this?

No it looks nothing like that. I'll get a picture up tonight from under the hangaurds and out front. I'll also get som detailed measuremants at diffrent points. I'm also going to look closer with a magnifying glass as I dont see a timing / headspace washer. If it is a metric barrel I may have found the perfect one for my Isreali Light Barrel project,

Thanks for the reply

From the muzzle to the front of gas block the diameter is .614/.615
Behind the gas block is .640 to .785 in front of the chamber where it increases rapidly berore the flats. The only markinging I can find are a capitol M F on one of the flats and possibly a capitol T just in front of the flat
I carefully measured the length and it it just a hair over 21"

Somewhere around 2000 maybe 2001. I didn't build the rifle. I received it in a trade.
