Hell here you get tired of tacos. Enchiladas beans and hot sauce. You would be surprised that yellow chese, hamburger meat, a pack of taco mix and shells with pace hot sauce is the YuM

That's my beverage of choice (Beafeaters with lime, and yeah, I use diet tonic water to preserve my svelte figure), but I still like tacos.

Recently, I'm favoring Baja-style deep fried cod filet with a lime cilantro (from my garden) vinaigrette (or a chipotle ranch) with finely shredded purple cabbage (from my garden) and maybe some pico de gallo. Before that I was doing a pulled pork with a very thin bbq sauce for my Tejas tacos, finely chopped onion and cilantro. My cilantro plants grow 6' tall so I use that shit on everything!. Shredded radish (also from garden) as a side. Although pickled daikon & carrot is also good (do chua -stolen from my Vietnamese friends).

We do have the Iberian Jews to thank, for when they settled in Mexico in Colonial times, there was some dispute on whether the local corn tortillas were Kosher - so they brought in wheat. I've just never been a fan of corn tortillas.

We opted out of Taco Tuesday this week (gasp) but plan to make up for it with Fajita Friday.

Those cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped peppers and Italian sausages needed to be cooked before they went off. So we did. And they were delicious.

It seems to be a Spanish thing. My wife is Filipino and she has the little limes she grows and uses on meat. Filipinos have a lot of Spanish influence.

I like the stir fried stuff you get at the Asian places with pineapples chunks with cashews.

Those look real tasty Mark....but I can't really do the cilantro on mine.....Wife loves that stuff but I really don't.
Most of her family loves it {Hispanic} except her father....He won't touch it....calls it pig food.....lol......we've had some fun debates over there {outlaws home} on the subject.

I never had any I don't think till I met her. The fact that we don't care for cilantro is about the ONLY thing he and I have in common.

No jail time, but did bail on the farming gig. Took last crop off last fall, let a younger guy with more stomach for debt farm our dirt, we now get check in mail.

Took sabbatical from j-man. But I see he still posts his inane condescending blather about how he is not responsible for electing any of the politicians who are destroying HIS country. Also sounds like he’s worn out both hands spankin the monkey due to no skinny wimmins in his AO.

Bought a small acreage at edge of town. Now take care of my honey bees and chickens. Life is good

It is genetic. Really. maybe 10% +/- have gene OR6A2 which codes for the receptor that picks up the scent of aldehyde chemicals. So it tastes like soap. Another percentage have three other genes that act similarly. Fortunatly, I don't. Because I love it! But the smell of beets makes me want to vomit. I cannot eat them. And I don't like the baby corn cobs sometimes found in chinese cooking because they taste to me like beets.

I can't do cilantro or beets but do love the baby corn. Funny how each of our tastes differ...but if everyone loved the same thing the world would be a pretty boring place.

Similarly there's a chemical made in tea when it is no longer fresh, I think produced by Staph epidermidis, the bacteria normally found on our skin. A small percent of the population can taste it, I'm one of those. I drink my tea unsweet so I'm quite aware of it. I often have to explain to restaurants they need to bleach the tea dispenser to kill that off.

Fortunate that I get to enjoy cilantro though. FYI, if you make your own fajitas, add it to your onions and peppers when caramelizing them, adds a wonderful flavor!

If you ever find yourself in the Houston area though check out Berryhill's for their fish tacos. They are a treat indeed.

Interestingly it's not really a Spanish thing. It's actual origin was likely traditional Malay recipies the Spaniards adopted from the Philippines that ended up defusing to their Colonies in Mexico and South America.

So-called Mexican dishes were heavily influanced by the cross Pacific trade
In Spain, extremely little remains of the pre-colonial period dishes as they adapted foodstuffs from both the New World & Asia.

real common example of this are rice dishes combining Asian Rice with New World Tomato and Peppers. Even the spices were not native to Europe.
Limes originated in SE Asia, Lemons somewheres east of India
It's kind of wild if you pay attention how Europeans brought such things in and made them their own.

For quite a time the Italians even managed to Silk farm after Priests stole a small number of Silk worms from the Chinese. The Emperor was not very pleased, led to the expulsion of Catholic missionaries for a period of time

The PI has a real fusion going on though
don't get me started on Spagetti with hot dogs

That really looks good. I planted cilantro this year but it died.

Eating pickled beets, jalapenos and olives on the salad right now. .

Had 2 fajita tacos for lunch today. No frills. You can't swing a cat here without hitting a taco stand.

Street tacos/mini tacos (normally grilled thin beef steak meat) with cilantro, hot sauce, and lime juice are the bomb!

I've been making fish tacos lately with a mango salsa and a sour cream sauce (1/3 mayo, 2/3 sour cream with some lime and chipolte powder). Green cabbage instead of lettuce. Yum.

Sounds really good. I used to add a bit of orange marmalade to a hot salsa to tone it down a bit. Not for a while 'cause GF is allergic to oranges (yeah, really!).

Oh, that's what they call "it" in central AZ, we call it something else down here on the border.
