Heartening, is what that is.

I'd have liked a better shot of the pistol and rig too.

You are obviously a man of taste and distinction.

When you shoot a Garand match and they supply the ammo you get to
load them yourself anyway, I'm pretty good at it.

Request for better photo of 45 granted. C- prefix pre WWI. Notice FA 1914 ammo and lanyard loop mags. Pistol, holster and belt with mag pouch made the trip to Europe in 1918 with a dear friend.

As was said earlier you are a man of good taste However i wonder about the bayonet on the Garand, if you let them close enough for the bayonet you did something wrong

Bayonets are real deal from CMP. I am sure situations happend during use of an M1C that the operator might have wished he had a bayonet attached. Such as cooking over an open fire. Just slike your rabbit on the end and away you go.

What year is the Krag-Jorgenson from? I do like how the bayonets can interchange between the Krag, Springfield, and Garand!

1898. Yep it is nice to change them around. I picked up a bunch of bayonets from CMP in the last year. Actually the Krag and 1917 came from the CMP clearance sale last Fall.

You must be an older gent-those rifles are known as "platforms" nowadays. Well, black walnut and steel, you know, live it, learn it, love it, and all that stuff. Nice guns Sir.

Need to lose the bayonet and get an M2 or M37 flash hider/suppressor. Also is the scope set up for proper eye relief, seems a little far forward to me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was just a photo after all. The scope is mounted just right for my shooting. I shoot the M1/ M14 quite a bit and I have always snuggled right up to the rear sight. I enjoy sliding the scope off and using irons. I tend to keep the same weld. It is difficult with the leather cheek rest, but it works for me.

Nice stable you have there Art.
Is your M1C made up or is it a documented GI C ?

I see you have your fire wood collected up already.
Looks like a really nice place you have there as well.
What part of the country are you in ?

I'll bet it is.
I have a C I bought locally, that Dave McClain documented from his data base.

The hard part was the scope and mount but I was able to locate a m82 and a numbered but non matching mount some years back along with a K line cheek rest.

Glad I'm not looking for one now with all the Cs coming out of the CMP.
My wallet would be smoking too

Is yours a Korean war era rifle ?

Mine was produced in May 1945. As far as I know, there are no Korean Era M1C rifles. I understand Springfield rebuit 4 or 5 thousand in the early fiftys, but they were on receivers produced during WWII. Some had not yet been built as complete rifles. There are a lot of counterfeit M1Cs out there.

Mine is a December of 44 and was manufactured in 12/44 with period correct parts. It has a 12/44 dated barrel, lock bar sights, and a GAW cartouched stock. It was manufactured as a M1C during the correct time frame for its respective serial number and parts type and drawing numbers.

As for the Cs built in the early fifties you are partially correct they were assembled from receivers procured during the original process with Griffin & Howe near the end of WWII and will show a WWII vintage serial number. However they were not assembled into complete rifles until the Korean conflict and therefore are considered Korean war era M1Cs.

M1Cs saw very little use during WWII and few would have required "rebuild " by the post war period.

They are fine rifles and considered to be one of the most rare of M1 variants.

These rifles will usually show a mix of WWII and post war parts and appear as a post war rebuild would.
From what I have seen most of the M1Cs currently leaving the CMP were assembled post war.

What is your barrel date and what cartouche does your stock have if any ?

You are of course correct that there are some built up/ fake M1Cs out there, usually easily spotted if you know what to look for.
I bought a counterfit in order to procure the authentic mount and scope it wore to complete mine.

Dave McClain of the GCA has the most extensive data base that exists on these rifles and if you ever consider one that does not have CMP pedigree be sure to contact him and he will gladly verify the serial number.

Thank you sir for the information. You have put me to work on a Sunday morning. You are indeed correct. Mine is a 1950s built rifle. If you hadn't said something , I would never have known. Barrel HRA 11/52 Stock Springfield with Eagle acceptance and P. Rear sight is newer DRC. All other parts look to be new Springfield Armory. Ser# 3790XXX. I bought this from CMP on a spir of the moment decision. To complete it before stashing in one of my safes, I got a current mount and rings from Griffin and Howe . Had to use insertes for a 7.8" reproducion M84. Rifle does shoot like a champ. I am really an M14 person , but I did train with the M1 in boot camp a million years ago, so I had to pick up a few.
Thank you again. Much appreciated.
