New Jersey cop who was spotted sleeping in patrol car now loses loaded gun

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...aded-gun?lite=

Quick summary:

A New Jersey cop who was spotted sleeping in his patrol car last summer has now lost a loaded handgun, according to his lawyer.

"It's not a sign of him being careless," Alterman (his lawyer) added. "It was an accident. Nobody intentionally loses a weapon."

Takach, a 15-year veteran, remained on the job and was scheduled to report for duty Tuesday night.

Takach was suspended in July after a photo was posted online showing him asleep in his patrol car while in uniform.

Clearly, losing his loaded handgun was not a sign of being "careless"--nobody intentionally loses a weapon!

15 year veteran huh? That's super. Kind of reminds me of the MA cop who left his gun in the bathroom at Dunkin' Donuts some years back.

Forgetting the old sixshooter may not be as uncommon as you think. Sitting in a local restaurant this past year looking out the window when a sheriff dept car pulls up. Deputy starts walking into the restaurant when he makes a quick 180 and goes back to his vehicle where I can see him stuffing his pistola into his holster. I could barely keep from laughing when he returned inside. Guess if something bad were to happen during the day, he could have pulled out his finger and shouted Bang, Bang!

My question is: Why is he changing his clothes IN THE PARKING LOT?

I negligently left my "off-duty" piece in the trunk of a scout car for about a week.

Those cars just got passed around from one shift to the next.
Not like it was my "private cruiser" or some such.

Man, talk about a sphincter-cramp when it dawned on me!!!
To my considerable relief, I found it right where I left it.

The cramp is just now starting to let up.
Saying goodbye to it next week, to pass it along to the younger generation.

Probably just came from the jail where you HAVE to leave your service weapon in your vehicle while you process your prisoner. Have done it myself on more than one occasion but fortunately never got more than 3 steps away from the car before realizing it. Easy to do when you get busy making sure all your paperwork is in order, turning off the prisoner light, letting dispatch know you are in service and a bunch of other things.

I ain't to concerned with the 'caught sleeping in his cruiser' thing either.

Now I ain't talking about makeing a bed and sacking out, I am talking about falling asleep in a chair or something. If there is someone here who can say that they have never fell asleep AT WORK then I will say to them that they are a very small minority of real human beings.

Gman, I agree. The county jail is a couple miles down the road and I have been told this happens to the best of them. In a worst case scenario, it could really ruin your day.

I once had a gagle of young deputies [six with two suv's] come in response to a call I made about a neighbor I was "in conflict" with . guess they were a bit worried bout my reputation
Above mentioned dirtbag had used his backhoe to deposit about a four ft wall of Ice and snow across my already cleared drive . snow was bout three ft deep at the time.
First thing I notice is half of em don't have their coats with em, no boots or gloves-we have a ski resort in the north end--WTF
so they do their report. one was very worried bout my 686 on my side and ask me to surrender it while they were there, I laughed and explained that I CALLED THEM, and as long as they presented me no threat ,I was no threat to them,
They proceed to get first SUV stuck in the snow trying to back out.
They have NO tools ,such as a shovel. NO tow strap. I go to house and get sled, load with tools and chain, I return to see them trying to attatch TIRE CHAINS between the two vechiles. I point out tax poayers paid good $ for the chains they SHOULD have on their tires, and to attempt to pull with em would break em right off/I hand them some shovels and show how to get "unstuck."
After a bit they started shedding their gear--this is at night ,no moon.
After getting the suv free.TWO of em start looking around and exclaime-"I can't find my gun"

Dumdshits had let them fall from their holsters into the snow when they took them off. to dig, must have unsnapped them in case they had to draw on me early on. Took us bout five min to locate.
I can't tell yall how much FUN I had that evening, and they all give me alot more respect ever since.

MANY moons ago, I was at a public shooting range in a National Forest with some other pals. We heard motorcycles buzzing around the woods down range and stopped shooting, annoyed that idiots were not only breaking the rules against off road motorized vehicles in the forest but also that they were ignoring the signs about the range and the danger they put themselves in.

Twenty minutes later, one buzzed into the center of our camp and tried to yell a command over the sound of his own bike. His partner buzzed in behind him and promptly dumped his bike after failing to take it out of gear before releasing the clutch. Biker #1, realizing that the "command presence" charade wasn't going to fly, cut his bike off and identified himself as a county deputy looking for "gang bangers" doing target practice in the woods.

Me and the other jarheads gave them the and showed them our military IDs. The retired police officer that was shooting with us that day said he had no sympathy for their dumbassery. They took umbrage to that to which he responded "Well, what if we had been what you thought we were?" To which they gave a

Once I was lost in the boonies on back roads and ran across a parked police car. I stopped to ask him for directions back to the highway. The officer inside was whackin' it with his eyes closed, and just sped off.

Can't fault the guy for a little stress relief.
I will admit to leaving my side arm at the Jail in the lock box. I went in to get an Inmate that was going to the hospital because of a heart attack it was verry hurried on the way out and the Paramedics loaded him up real quick and took off with me in the ambulance and my gun still locked in the box in the sally port. That was a call to my Sgt. that I will always remember and not in a good way.

Jailgurar, don't get me wrong, as I'm NO prude.
My objectiopn was his lack of descression in doing so where someone could observe so easily.

ENJOY.

Kinda gives a new take on --"getting OFF duty"

OR for that matter--"Comming ,on duty" ----

We had one in Jackson, MS a few years back that pawned his issued pistol so he could go to the casino.
