Question Camo Furniture or Basic Black?

I had some ugly green DSA furniture laying around, as well as some extra Duracoat that I needed to use up. I swapped these on my Imbel which also just got a new Primary Arms 1-8 ACSS scope and an Israeli sling.

What do you guys think about it?

I like it.

I'd get rid of the black in the camo though - enough black on gun without it.

I'm of the mind that, if you are going to paint the furniture, you may as well paint the whole rifle.

Like Mark said, get rid of the black in the camo. Replace it with more tan to further break up the profile.

Thanks guys.

I should have left the black out. I was going for the US Woodland Camo look from the '80s, but the colors from Duracoat kit are all wrong.

Luckily it was just for fun and to add color to an all black monotony. I also did an AR. That's definitely not hiding anything with that silver SS barrel and alum mag.

Im a camo guy for sure on most guns. I was a duracoat applicator for a few years and almost every gun has something but for some reason the FAL was never one I liked painted.
I say Black!

I like Brownell's Aluma-Hyde. Quite a bit more durable than Krylon/Rustoleum, and significantly cheaper and easier to apply than Duracote/Cerakote/Gunkote.

I like Alumahyde II also. That black Imbel handguard above was done with Alumahye II at least 7 -10 years ago, maybe more. It's held up really well with no scratches or chips. I've also done many other aluminum and plastic parts with it (including rifle pistol grips) and it all still looks really good after years of use.

I'm also a fan of Gunkote. I've done quite a few guns with it and it's always been tough for me. All the black metal on this FAL (except the scope and mag) was finished with Gunkote back around 2003-2004. That carry handle is aluminum BTW and the only thing showing appreciable wear. I think I should have used Alumahyde instead of Gunkote on it since I couldn't Kphos it.

I got the Duracoat on sale to try it on plastic with my airbrush, but I'm not real happy with it. It doesn't seem to be as durable as Gunkote or Alumahyde and has a very short shelf life. I'm not buying any more and will stick with the tried and true Alumahyde II on parts I can't bake and Gunkote of those that I can.
