Photo Heavy threads and thumbnails

I figured out how to do thumbnail links, but I host my own images.

but threads like this http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...14#post4616714 are just getting stupid. Takes a full minute to load the page. I won't wait around to reply.

And can you image if I "reply with quote" and were a total asshole and didn't delete the images from my reply? Now we get to see the samew 20 large images load twice.

There has got to be a way to make displayed images thumbnails. Or if you have a dozen images in your post, make them URL links and not IMG links.

And quit quoting multiple images!

And don't be an attention whore and spam an unrelated thread with "look what I have" images that add nothing to the discussion.

Oh, looks like that thread has finally finished loading.. . . .

What I know about using a computer and the lingo that goes
with it is very little , just kinda stumble through , not really sure
what thumbnails , ULR links , IMG links , ect. mean , the way I
post pictures is through Post Image seems to work ok

yeah, that's the problem.

And that's why it needs to be on the FalFiles side.

I talked w/ Jen about this a few months ago and she said she had something in the works.

FF has the server capacity to host, thereby eliminating the need for 3rd party hosting. And allowing for direct upload from your computer or mobile device.

"Browse for image on my computer"

Yes
Select
upload

then for the important part.

FF makes a 2" miniature copy of your image that links to the full size. That is what appears in the message. Anyone wants to see the full size image, they just click on it and the full size image appears in a separate window.

FF is a great example of what a cutting edge bulletin board website looked like 20 years ago.

As does my website.

I'm revamping it - and while I'm having someone else do the work because I realize that I simply don't have the skill or time - I'm learning a lot about what can be done - and thinking how awesome it would be for FF to modernize. I'm used to doing everything myself. I did the original site in html because the guy I hired coulnd't cut and paste from a word document and ended up misspelling every other word. Completely incompetent boob. Then I progressively added to my skill set. Had a few folks help with java, then I picked up enough CSS to standardize format across a hundred pages. By HTML 5 I realized that keeping up is a full time job and I already have a full time job. Jen has the computer skill, but just because she can doesn't mean it's the best application of her time, versus her other job(s) with TT.

Hey - I like the classic format - but you have to admit, it's a freaking dinosaur with regard to image handling and searches.

Test photo upload direct from phone , pictures taken with camera

I know of the little picture window your talking about have seen
it on other forums , my laptop died 3 years ago have been using
a 4 year old phone in its place , so its not exactly " up to date "

Umm, change your internet service provider (or stop using dial up). Took me a whole one second to load that page.

One of the Heavy Equipment forums I am on reformatted the site recently, it's direct pic posting and resizes pics automatically. Easy peasy.

No, ACMOC is a good one for antique equipment, but it's the
'Heavy Equipment Forums" that did the reformat. Great place to get up to date equipment info.

Hmm. I know being out in the sticks, options are limited. There is no cable. It's satellite or DSL.

Speed Check says 4 mbps DL & .5 UL. So maybe you folks who are in areas where there is infrastructure don't notice.

Time aside, wouldn't it be a lot cleaner if one didn't have to scroll through 50 images, and then the same 50 images quoted by 6 other people, to answer yes or no at the bottom of the page?

I had no problem loading the pics, but boy, do I feel your pain on this^^^
The dreaded "reply with quote without the image delete"!!

ETA:
The bandwidth that alone must consume!!
A lot of folks here are guilty of this, and should be hanged publicly immediately, if not sooner!

Just kidding about the hanging, but it does need to stop...

I'm not in surprise. I'm in county. Surprise post office.

Not sure how buying a new computer will make Centurylink's 25 year old lines work better. May have worked fine before demand went up by a factor of 10.

Dude - I have put a lot of money into my HP for high speed graphics and video rendering.

They put 8,800 new houses in on 1/8 acre lots in the open fields I used to go dove hunting at. Starting about 500 yards from me (county/city border). That area is plumbed for natural gas and Centurylink high speed internet. Cox is big too with their fiber optics. Infrastructure is less than 10 years old. Centurylink is not interested in upgrading their infrastructure in what are technologically outlying areas, even though geographically they are very close. Housing density where I'm at is max 4 houses per 5 acres, and some of the 10 acre platts are not divided that much. I suppose they don't think they will recover the costs.

Spending big money on a new computer doesn't make my internet speed on outdated 25 year old phone lines increase.

I have no problem loading an hour of video or a hundred large format images for editing.

But I do find some web pages with heavy bandwidth take a ridiculous time to load. Maybe those with higher speeds never notice it. But I still think it would make for cleaner pages regardless of load time.

Wait a little bit longer for 5G to come out, it's supposed to be the cable modem killer... high speed without cable infrastructure.
