NFL caves to Pres. Trump, bans kneeling during anthem

Well,

Looks like the team owners felt the pinch in declining revenue after Pres Trump called them out and said it was a disgrace spoiled brat players were allowed to kneel during the national anthem.

Players are now allowed to stay in the locker room during the national anthem if they choose, and then get booed off the field once they come out.

Pres Trump, "Winning!"

Sounds like a darn good way to win friends & influence duh Bro Feetball players. Personally what I'd like to do is send them packing to a country of their choice just as long as it isn't the one their Brotesting because its evident they must be in severe pain over all of what's happened.

More kabuki theatre, and bad kabuki at that.

2009 - the NFL changes policy to increase the appearance of patriotism in the marketing plan.

...........
One aspect of this history that has spawned some confusion in recent days concerns a change made in 2009.

Until that year, players in primetime games would remain inside their locker rooms while the anthem was sung, due to timing concerns for the television networks. After 2009, the players in primetime games have been on the field during the anthem, McCarthy said.

But this change only affected primetime games. For all other games -- typically held at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. Eastern -- players had already been stationed on the field for the national anthem. So the 2009 change simply applied to primetime games the rules that had already been in place for daytime games.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...em-and-sports/

Then in 2011 the DoD gets money in the game-

"The players were moved to the field during the national anthem because it was seen as a marketing strategy to make the athletes look more patriotic. The United States Department of Defense paid the National Football League $5.4 million between 2011 and 2014, and the National Guard [paid] $6.7 million between 2013 and 2015 to stage on-field patriotic ceremonies as part of military recruitment budget-line items." - Stephen A. Smith / ESPN

Football still blows.

I've been watching less and less football as the years go buy, I can't exactly put my finger on it, but my level of interest just keeps waning. Once the whole kneeling nonsense started I almost completely stopped watching, other than a occasional game here or there when nothing else was on TV and I had nothing else to do.

Regardless of the performer's intent, the idea of penalizing an individual, team or organization for not standing or "showing respect" to the flag or while the anthem is being performed runs counter to the very notion of dissent that birthed this country. Thankfully, a populist leader can take advantage of these events to rile up the faux patriots that constitute the majority of his power base.

I second this 100%. Good because this Bristol race a few weeks ago looked like a ghost town compared to years past.

I don't think they're caving to trump.

I think the owners are seeing that their behavior is hurting their bottom line. And let's face it, they care more about that than anything else.

Protest is fine, it's the American thing to do. Timing and motivation plays a big part as to if anybody cares. When folks pay to watch you play then shut up and perform, protest on your own time.

With that, I've no issue. If the market doesn't like it, the league will figure it out, as they've already done. However, government getting involved? Give me a ******* break. This type of behavior typifies the nanny state and the weak- progressives and conservatives- that invite them through the door to "help". We are a nation of narcs who have to complain every time our feelings are hurt- "hate speech", perceived racism, "dishonor" to the flag/anthem. Spoiled little snowflakes on both sides of the issue. It's a goddamned game, entertainment. Don't take it seriously.

I have no problem with democrat or repub saying what they stand for from the bully pulpit. Sometimes folks need a verbal reminder of what the world is. Just because you are in government it doesn't mean you shouldnt speak your mind.

It's when they make laws that they go out of bounds and laws against free speech are just as bad as anti gun laws. I share a lot of the same values as Trump speaks to so I am bias that I think disrespect of the flag or anthem is on display by kneeling. If those pussy players want to protest then get a media bully pulpit and jaw all they want to those who choose to listen.

At the game you are a captive audience and forced to watch their display, that's not what people are paying to see.

The master contract that all nfl players were under last year stated the players were to stand and face the flag. They were not fined last year so why should we believe the new rule will make one flip of a diferance. They can stick that football where the sun don't shine.

No connection between this and "the very notion of dissent that birthed this country".

All of these role models are free to dissent, protest, take a knee, or whatever.
But as employees of the team owners, they are also free to lose their jobs.

The 1st Amendment restrains the govt., not employers.

Old retired dude who takes a job at Home Depot is gonna have to wear the orange vest. Or dissent and get fired. No different that this NFL crap.

If the purpose of the game is being black who will watch it, being black has a great number of inequities,,, so does being white,,, and accommodating blacks shouldn't be one of them,,, it's not a revenue enhancer.
How dumb can you be, you never know until you try as hard as possible.

I stopped going & watching ANYTHING to do with NFL, when that 49er QB
started his antics. (name withheld for publicity reasons)
Even if they stop, i'm not going to support the National Felon League.
.
so they get to sit in the locker room till its over.
bet they come up with something else quickly to in your face it again.
.
Why not just stop playing the national anthem at NFL games.
No more color guard, no more fly overs . . . . hey it all cost $$

Yet, the government has been involved in this case, even if only by suggestion/coercion. Hmmmm...

In any case, there are precious little "conservative" snowflakes at the core of the issue.

They have the constitutional right to get the F out of this country if they think their being shit on and being mistreated. I would like to see just what these Brotesters are doing for their less fortunate Bros & Broette's I mean are they lending them money are they buying them new rides are they helping to pay for their education? Because you have to remember a Bros mind is a terrible thing to waste.
