Gentleman, I regret that I will not be there to try your intestinal fortitude with my FAL renowned "burn your ass green chile" this year. I'm just plain "windshield weary" now. We've traveled so much this year, 3 months and 15,000 miles, that the thought of driving any distance is not appealing even for the opportunity to see you buncha misfits. Also, in the mix is a bunch of hail damage I need to get started on along with secondary projects that I have deferred while on the road this year.
First major project is painting this old farm house while I dodge freezing temps here. Painting prep started in earnest yesterday and I need to keep the momentum going.
My apologies for bailing this year.

This is a true letdown, my friend, but I understand, I truly do. I guess it's on Ex and his never to be ex to make the trip to you, buddy. I was sure hoping to taste whatever hew concoction you brought along from the hills of ol' New Mexico, but till next time... I was also looking forward to feeding you some of me fire breathing new batch of squeezin's for a bit....

Hello TeamTexas!

I flew back home last night from working in Saskachawan this week. Single digits temps and double digit wind. Simply a GLORIUS place to be in December

Anyway, while there I picked up a really find head cold that has moved into my eyes this morning. Tickets bought and hotel/car reserved so I'm still coming gents, but you probably want to stay at arms length and NOT shake my hand.

Just fair warning brothers.....

I had really planned on making this shoot. I don't think I've met any other Filers except for Sledgehammer. But, it is not to be. We are in the Frisco area right now, where our daughter just gave birth to our fourth grandchild, and second granddaughter. We live in central Texas, about 50 miles south of Waco and are going home on Saturday. It's a three hour drive back from Frisco, and then I would have to load up and drive back another three hours. I can't do that and still call it fun.

I'll have to wait for the next one. James, I believe I met you at Market Hall several years ago. My son Carson and I were there and met Randy and I think he introduced us. Not sure, been a while. Anyway, I hope you're able to host another meeting; I'd like a chance to meet you guys in person. Have a good time and be safe!

SASKATCHEWAN! DANG!!

I ran from that place 30 years ago and not a moment too soon. Too dang cold. You brought the winter with you, it seems, You must have left the door open behind you or something.
I'm not sure I'll make it tonight to Logans, though. I'll try, but I'm trying to put out some Friday morning "Need it right now" fires.

Should be a good time tomorrow. James's shoots are always the highlight of my year.
Yeah, maybe I gotta get out more, but just hanging out and being around good people is never a bad thing.

You are now the new down range target holder

Maybe you'll feel a little better after you get here. Weather is great right now. Sunny skies no wind about 50 degrees.

Oh hell yeah. Don't ever call this redneck from Mississippi a snowbird ever again. I assimilated and have a little piece. I'm very fortunate not to live in Houston Dallas Austin.

I had really planned on coming this year. But much to my dismay it is not to be. I am not up for a 5 hour drive as my fractured pelvis, while it is healing, is telling me I can't sit on my A$$ for that long. Hopefully next year.... Enjoy and be safe gents.

Thanks to James and all the Texas falfilers for an awesome day. James was great at hosting and coordinating the event and everyone there was just “good people” who made me feel welcome. It is a real treat for me to put faces to some of the screen names.

Dozens of times throughout the day I heard some version of:
-“Do you wanna shoot this?”
-“I have plenty of ammo if you need more”
-“Do you wanna shoot this?”
-“If you get hungry I have lots of snacks”
-“Do you wanna shoot this?”
-“I have water and soft drinks if you need something”
….and did I mention how often I heard “Hey, do you wanna shoot this?”
Truly a great bunch of guys!

An extra special “shout out” goes to James for letting me handle a legendary piece of FAL history. Ol’ Dirty was at 16,800 rounds without a cleaning. James let me run her up to 16,820
Thank you sincerely James!

Many thanks to James for organizing and making this happen. Great day at the river. Nice to see some of the originals, Tex, MP, and others. Nice to meet and visit with Invictus77. Came from KY to Texas just to make another shoot. Missed Randy. Hope his back gets to feeling better. Thanks for going to the trouble to make this happen. Great people, great fellowship. And, a few nice weapons. Tom S.

How was it this year?
The Muy Grande buck I've been seeing on camera every morning at 6:30 no showed on me.
I'd been better off driving up to the shoot.
I've decided I'm going to go in late every morning to work until I put a bullet in him.
Hope James hosts the shoot again next year.

Great to finally meet Invictus. He shoots pretty darn good too. I'm busy icing down the nice bruise on my shoulder that I'll be sporting for a few days, and soaking the oldsters in water to get rid of black powder residue. Yay.

The best times of these shoots, (seriously) are in laying out your rifles and pistols with a big pile of ammo and just sitting back and letting others try them out.
I get to shoot stuff I've never shot before, like a genuine Guidelamp built 1943 cake decorator. A dream come true, that one.
And had a few more goes at the MP.40.
The drum equipped full auto SBR AK was there making a racket again as usual. That thing must fire 10,000 rounds every time we get together. It never spends a moment at rest. It's bloody LOUD.

I probably did more bumping of gums than shooting this go round, but dammit, I'm getting old.

My C1A1 and I still get along. Still an extension of my right arm, she is. I point, and she hits where I point. Damn I love that rifle.

I had a phenominal time today. James has a great set up out there for sure. It was nice to get away for an afternoon and shoot a bunch of different guns. If we're able to do this again next year, I'm going to be sure and drag a few shootin' irons up from down home, even if I have to go bare footed and at midnight.

I'd really like to thank James and ExCdn for sharing. The Sharps rifle in particular was a hoot! The grease gun I got to shoot was awesome too. Very controllable in full auto.

So glad I got to meet you guys! It was a blast!

Great to finally meet you too Brother and thanks for the kind words, but let me fess up to "the rest of the story" on some of my shooting today...

With numerous witnesses, me and my Imbel/Imbel race gun build put 19 out of 20 on the gong at 200 yards. Yep, "pretty darn good" and my best shooting of the day

Later in the day however, I went to the 400 yard gong by the river. First shot went CLANG! YeeHaw!!! Was I smart enough to call it good and walk away??? HELL NO !!! Numerous witnesses then got to watch me randomly spray boolits all around the target for the next 19 rounds.

Someday, I hope to grow up and learn "when to say when".

Hey, don't feel bad. Four or five people saw me and my Sharps bracket the 500 yard gong about 10 times within a foot of it to the left but never ring it. I chalked it up to the light, I really was having a hard time aquiring the gong with the front globe insert I had in it. The sun was just right to reflect in my eyes. Irritating. Old well.

I gotta get some more trigger time on that rifle. Today makes a total of 30 rounds I've put through it, so if I'm on at 500 already with an 1874 rifle, I can't wait till I can develop some real loads and sight tables for it.
I'm actually excited. My C1A1 is second nature, I need a challenge and I like shooting long with irons. Scopes ain't my thing.

Hey there everyone. Well other successful Texas get together has come and gone and thanks to all that came and hoped you all had a good time. I say successful because no one was hurt and I donít think anyone lost anything. Weather turned out good too.

Had one really long distance traveler, Invictus77, and a couple that required a five hour drive or so, TXMoose and meltblow, thumbs up to you guys. Also thanks TXMoose for bringing a big O pan of chili and fixings that went great with the dogs.

For those that didnít make it this year, maybe next time.

James

James , you're one in million. You got a good wife. Mine wanted to act put out that I went up without bending over backwards to take her. Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Those 2 gongs on the bank kept me amused most of the day. Shoulder is a little blue and yep came back with all the stuff I brought except for a few hundred rounds, which is always a good thing Lots of good folks there. Gotta figure out how to make those firecrackers that Steve had.

LOL. Those two gongs kept most of us amused, and more than a few of us left with a few extra gray hairs...

I got a nice welt on my forehead from that tang sight on the Sharps smacking my forehead on every shot. My wife actually put blush on it before Church this morning. I felt like a total tool.

Seeing Andy's suppressed 300 blackout work with subsonic rounds was amazing, and watching Phillip rocking the MP40 was hilarious.

That obnoxious SBR FA drum fed AK though. Daaaayam! Speak LOUDLY! LOL!

I'd like to see it at night. The muzzle blast was impressive enough in daylight

Thank for putting up with us again James, you are a true cat herder. Really appreciate your putting time and effort into this! Couldn't have wished for a nicer day

Lots of neat toys about it was a thrill to see and hear.....I'll bet everybody was grinning like a fool during that AK drum dump.

Great to see old and new faces, shake some hands (well fist bump Invictus)

I'll shake your hand with glee next time bro! Great to meet you TXmoose!

For those that missed this event, my sinus cold and runny eyes I picked up last week evolved to "pink eye" so I avoided touching anyone, which is awkward as heck when meeting a whole crowd of new people, all of which immediately reach out to shake your hand. My day was spent looking through a cloudy, blurry haze. Shooting was still OK with a scoped riFAL, but the 1911 was a definite "no go"

I had flown down with 100 rds of 45 and loaded the 3 mags I took with me when I got to town. I shot the first mag through my Kimber and had 1 hit out of 7 at about 30 ft, and that one was simply dumb luck as I could barely see the target in the sun and the sights were non-existent. A couple of other guys shot all or most of the other two mags and I then flew back home with 79 rds of 45

In hindsight, I don't know if any of the machine guns onsite were in 45, but I should have enquired and donated the ammo for someone to do mag dumps. It was certainly a wasted effort being in my possession on Saturday.

Invictus, someone had a Cake Decorator. A genuine 1943 GM Guidelamp early production version with the crank handle cocker too. It was a real gem. If I can figure out how to post vids, I'll post one of me shooting it.

Edit: OK, found this one pic, but got a better vid. This was one sweet piece, a genuine article, not an assembled gun.

Good new for you gents! My current eye problem is not "pink eye", nor contagious or communicative. I wish now I shaken all of your hands, but was working with the knowledge I had at the time, in a conservative mode.

Look on the bright side. You're gonna live, and we never gave you nothing. Texas is contagious, man. Sooner or later, you'll be wanting to move down here and help us fight against all the commies moving in from the coasts.

Precocious little guy there. He keeps it up he'll own his own Logan's one day.
