Make your own ice packs

gather plastic jugs w/ screw tight lids:
quart, half gallon, gallon, 2 liter soda bottles, 2 qt juice/cranberry juice bottles ect;

wash/rinse out

warm water in large pot, add salt as listed below, stir until dissolved, remove from heat & let cool, do not fill beyond 80% - 90% full to allow for expansion when freezing

cup per quart container
cup per gallon/2 qt, container
1 cup per gallon container

you can add food-safe coloring to know it is not for drinking or use a marker to write salt water on the bottle

you can go the extra mile here and use silicone caulk to seal the lid to prevent spills/leaks

stand upright to freeze

special note of caution;
these freeze bottles can cause items in the cooler to freeze solid

Down here you're not a real redneck unless you have a Yeti sticker on your jeep or truck next to some other sticker. What happened to STP stickers.?

Even though they're both in pop top cans, cold beer tastes better than STP.

Glad it helps someone

I have at least 30 of the 2 liter soda bottles water filled to where they begin to neck down that as I pull things from the freezer I stick them in to try to fill the space with a freezeable mass to keep it cold if the power goes out

I will begin to switch them over to salt water as I can

I got my Yeti for free (well I spent $2 for a ticket at the Friends of the NRA Banquet). I like that it will keep a block of ice for 4 days and it is still pretty large. I pre-chill it first, of course I stuff it with cubes from work so it is $0 to me.

I keep our freezers packed with milk and juice jugs, but no salt mix. I use them regularly to keep me quenched during a hot day. Keeps em cycled and provides a nice backup water supply too. I need to try the salt idea though!
