Question How many .22 rifles do you have?

This is all Timber Wolf's fault. He mentioned in a post on the Revolver forum that he had more .22 rifles than anything else, and it got me to thinking about how many .22 rifles I have, and it's a pretty fair number too.

So here goes. How many and what kind of .22 rifles do you guys have who have more than one .22?

I'll start off with my collection.

1 German single shot, an Ortgies, that I inheirited from my grandfather.

1 Winchester Mdl. 1903 .22 Auto that I got from my other grandfather.

1 Remington Mdl. 512 that my dad bought for me when I was a kid.

1 Remington Mdl. 12C NRA Target (first rifle I bought with my own money).

1 Marlin Mdl. 39A Mountie carbine.

11 Ruger 10/22's in various flavors, two bought new and the rest used.

2 Remington 581's, one converted to single shot, one repeater.

1 Winchester Mdl. 77.

1 Remington Nylon 10C.

1 Ruger 77/22.

1 Marlin Mdl. 56 Levermatic

1 Remington Mdl. 591 5mm Rimfire Magnum (OK, technically it's not a .22, but it is a rimfire, and I just got it this week {06 July 2012})

1 Armalite AR-7 Survival rifle

1 HK-91 .22 Conversion kit (not technically a rifle unless it's in the 91, but I'm gonna count it)

1 FAL .22 Conversion kit (courtesy of Kurbelgehause, a Files member from Utah, who has a multi-page post about the group buy
and development of the conversion kit in the Marketplace Forum on the Files)

1 Ruger American Rimfire bolt action .22LR Compact with 18" threaded barrel

1 Ruger American Rimfire Predator bolt action .22LR

I think that's all. I did this list from memory and didn't go open the safes and do an actual hard count, so there may be one or two that I've forgotten. But if I did remember all of them, I have 24 .22 rifles and one 5mm, plus two .22 Conversion kits, for a grand total of 27 rimfire rifles (I also have four or five .22 pistols, but I'm only talking about rifles here). Not the world's largest collection by far, but a pretty nice assortment of decent .22's, and some of everything. Single shots, semi-auto's, pumps, levers, and bolt actions, and a cross section of makes.

So what have you guys got?

Down to just a 10/22 and a Marlin 883SS in 22 Magnum. Used to have a few others, but I got rid of them all during my various gun collection culls and moved the money to other projects...Just didn't see any real value to having a stack of 22's. These two rifles plus my 22/45MKIII and Single Six should pretty much cover all my rimfire bases.

I have a couple, all of which I like very much...

Ruger 10/22 stainless
Stevens 85
Remington Model 581 tube fed bolt
Ithaca 72 Lever
Taurus 62 pump
Marlin Model ??? .22 Mag clip fed bolt

Does an American 180 FA count??

All are very accurate and they all get a workout from time to time.

My kid has 2 Crickets and a Savage Cub.

I'm down to a Ruger 10/22 and 2 Mossberg 44 US's from CMP.

I went too far when I thinned them out. I need to find a really nice, scoped bolt action sporter.

Remington 190 semi-auto-My first firearm, dad bought for me.
Marlin Golden 39A lever action
Remington 581, mag fed, left hand bolt action

I'd wouldn't mind a few more.

A few months ago, I had a Walther P-22 pistol. Traded it off & had a couple thousand rounds of 22 with no weapon to shoot 'em in! Well, now I have a basically unissued Polish 22 trainer, a Remington 522 Speedmaster, a Western Auto/Winchester....forget the model number, a 1973 Ruger 10/22, and a really nice Mossberg semi auto. The Mossberg is still in layaway at the local pawn shop......beautiful rifle with no serial number!

Well, since I apparently started something I suppose I will play. I’m closing in on 50 or so .22 rifles myself. Without listing them all, since 10 of them are Winchester 67s anyway, I’ll try to just hit the highlights and recent acquisitions of note. I have my first .22 rifle which my Dad gave me, a H&R 365 “Reg’lar” single shot with factory Lyman peep sight. I recently bought another 365 to have a “shooter” so I could put my first one away. I also found and purchased the clip fed version, a Model 265 “Targeteer” which also had the factory mounted Lyman peep. Hey, a guy needs a repeater to go with his single shots! Just this past weekend I traded into another single shot in this series, a 565 “Pal” that came new (in 1947-8-9ish) with a standard barrel mounted ladder type sight but the previous owner had fitted a cheap but serviceable rear peep and front globe to the gun. I of course have a couple of the obligatory 10/22s, one stone-stock and the other done up with a bull barrel, synthetic stock and big scope.

Several Remington .22s, particularly 500 series. Including a 510 and two each 511s & 512s. A little bit rough Nylon 66, bought the morning of my wedding day while I was killing time at a Pawn Shop waiting on my Tux pants to be altered. Makes it easy to remember the last gun I bought as a single man! Within the past few months I picked up a nice Remington 513T to go with my two Mossburg 44USs. The 513T is a real shooter as are the 44USs. One 44US is stock peep sighted and the other is scoped. Have a Marlin 39A and a Henry lever action which is NIB. A Savage Favorite as well as a .22 over .410 and a .22 over 20 Gauge. Couple of .22 AR15 conversions, one a new stainless CMMG unit (what a nice piece of kit) and a military conversion unit (261 I think).
My 7 year old daughter is coming on strong at the local youth shoots with her little Anschutz Woodchucker (a youth sized sporter .22 Anschutz imported for a while) I fitted with a peep rear and globe front sight. I have plans to move her to the H&R 365 when she outgrows the Woodchucker and in anticipation have fitted one of the 365s with a globe front sight to go with the peep rear. Dad (me) is enjoying shooting it in the meantime.

As to future acquisitions I have my eye on an H&R Model 12 owned by the same guy that I just got the H&R Pal from. It is the only rifle a “youth” has ever shot a perfect 50 with at our youth shoot and my Bud has that actual “Bull” taped to the stock! I also want to build a correctly rifled and chambered dedicated .22 AR and upgrade the triggers in my 10/22s. I kind of want to build a “Liberty Training Rifle” out of my standard 10/22 and install a Tech-Sights AR style rear peep. I would not turn down a nice Winchester 52 or 75, Remington 37, or nice full size Anshutz ($$$$$$) if they got too close. The H&Rs, 513T, and 44USs and most or all of the others can shoot better than I can but I still want some high dollar very accurate .22s. And heck, I might as well go for an even dozen Winchester 67s.

Edit: Was reviewing my list and noticed a few of note I had missed. A couple of Charter Arms AR-7s, a real Browning .22 and a Norinco knock-off that matches it, and an Iver Johnson Carbine .22 L.R. made by Erma I think. It is kind of fun. Oh, and I just a couple of hours ago ordered the Tech-Sights for my 10/22 (and an AK while I was at it!).

Winchester M52B
Winchester single shot bolt action (tiny little rifle, pretty darned old, don't remember the model number)
Winchester single shot bolt action (I think its a M63)
Remington semi auto tube fed (don't remember the model)
Savage M29B pump tube fed
Ruger 10/22
Browning semi auto (the little one that loads through the stock)
Colt Frontier Scout with both cylinders
Ruger Mk1 5.5" bull barrel

I think that's all of them if I don't count the .22 conversion kit for the AR15.

.22 shooting is about the must fun I have on a regular basis.

CZ452 Lux - 22" barrel bolt action; nicest dadgum .22 I have ever owned
CZ Kadet .22 conversion for CZ75B
Sig P229 .22 conversion
Beretta Neos (for the wife)
Remington Nylon 66 (the wife's)

I use the .22 mostly for training to get cheap trigger pulls on my defensive handguns...I have adjusted the sights to mimick their big brothers...and the CZ452 is the military trainer version, so it has the same sight picture as the AK family of weapons...so it isn't hurting me when I pick up the VZ58.

there really is nothing funner than shooting the .22 rifle, and hitting everything with boring regularity.

and not much more satisfying than shooting for an hour or two and spending maybe 20 bucks.

I love .22 rifles, especially classic ones. I've shot these since the 60s and have settled on a relatively modest collection:

Kimber 82B Mini Classic, bought new in 1989
Anschutz Mannlicher .22
Sako Finnfire P94
Browning T Bolt Belgian .22 with the peep sight
Browning ATD .22 Belgian, made in 1959
Winchester 61 .22 pump, grooved receiver
Marlin 39 made in 1926
Ruger 10-22 made in 1966
Ruger 10-22 custom(wife's rifle)

My son has a Marlin 39M and a 1897 Cowboy model.

If I could only have two it would be the Kimber 82 and the T-Bolt.

I originally had about 122 Winchesters of different flavors years back, including unfired Winchester 74's and 67's and 69's. I then sold them off and some other brands to fund my new shop build about 4 years ago now. I kept these:

1 Winchester 52D, scoped
1 Marlin 60 (grandfather's gun)
1 Remington 541T
1 Browning 1914 (short)
1 GSG5

I think I still have a box for a Marlin 39A and an Ithaca M49R. I may sell these because I no longer have the guns. Not a large collection by any means, but the new shop gets more use than all the .22's I had, so it seems justified.

ETA: I just sold my Remington 521T for $350.00 to fund the new Argy kit purchase.

Leland

I only have one 22 rifle, an old bull barrelled Russian Vostok but no rear sight for it. It has a rail on the left side of the receiver and I've never found a sight.
I have one 22 pistol, and Ruger mk2 grip frame with a stainless 10" bull barrel AMT upper.
I envy some of the stuff you guys have!
I just never got into 22s like I have ARs, AKs, and L1A1s.

Sold my H&R revolver and Romanian M69 to pay bills, and I didn't really like either.

However, a Volquartsen 10/22 fanch schmancy model caught my eye recently, and I still have a bunch of ammo leftover. So, I'll get it as money allows.

Too many...and I just picked up another one the other day. An old Marlin 39A lever gun that someone installed a Lyman peep sight on. I was able to buy it cheap because of the Lyman and the factory buckhorn being missing, and I will tell you - it shoots like a dream!

Hmmm...lemme see, that now makes HOW MANY .22's?

An update...I just got a Marlin 100s Tom Mix Special. This is a big deal for me because I have been looking for one for several years. They were only made in 1937-38 and I am told that I am distantly related to Tom Mix.

22 rifles

Always been somewhat of a sucker for all .22s---the rifles I have now are four---don't know that I wll buy any more because these do pretty much anything I want from a rimfire.

Ruger stainless 10-22 with complete early Volquartsen kit---fluted heavy barrel with comp., stock, trigger parts etc. topped with an old Leaupold 6.5-20X w/AO. an absolute tack driver!

Ruger "Pre-warning" 10-22 Deluxe Sporter---standard except trigger job, extended mag release, Volquartsen slide-stop and Uzi model A canvas sling.

Browning 22 auto---older "Wheelsight" take-down rifle---shoots great---very nice condition for an old Belgium made rifle.

Remington Nylon 66---40+ years old---shoots like a target rifle! Really clean old Mohawk Brown.

Thats all folks!!

Let's see:..
Mossy mod 44(b) with customised stock (looks like maple?). Nice accurate rifle
that has been scoped. As a kid I was deadly with it. NOT "junk"

Romanian "target rifle", bolt. Shoots ok. Bought 3-4 at once.

Ruger 10/22, scoped.

H&R 9 shot revolver. Buddy had one so I picked it up when I saw it. The
top-break design is interesting.

Ruger Mk1 bull barrel "target pistol". The first semi auto pistol I got. Bought
from a friend who was later shot thru the heart by a buddy while they were cleaning
their .45s. I can never sell it for sentimental reasons, but its a clunky thing.
Wanted to cut the barrel down to 2.5 inches but was advised by gunsmith it
would better be left stock as Ruger doesnt make that model anymore.

S&W model 36 or there-abouts 2 inch snubbie. Has pimpin stablised pearl
grips. (NOT my doing!). This one was a Grail treasure that took decades to
find and purchase.
Id like to get an old Stevens 87 .22 rifle with the under-barrel tube. Either a Hi
Standard auto or the Colt Woodsman. Also a small .22 auto. Friend has a small Walther .22, a PP orr PPK. Something like that would be nice.
