This brings back memories of the 'good o'l days'. I got my StG kit on the FAL Files group buy available then from DSA, $260 plus $16 shipping back in 2003! And I thought it was way expensive back then, as $99 Imbel kits were then available too.

All matching SN 40922, and eveything on the kit looked new, almost. The receiver stub has a '60 date on it. This is my only FAL kit build that I did not have to refinish to match the new DSA receiver.

I added some cocobolo furniture made by MrJG.

Best Regards,
Slo cat

With the introduction of the StG77( AUG) as the first line Austrian military rifle in 1977, we would guess that production of the StG-58 ceased.

If one was to do the math between 1958 and 1976 divided by 177,000 units we might surmise that on the average 9316 per year were manufactured.

If that's the case, the math results would be:

1958=9316
1959=18632
1960=27948
1961=37264
1962=46580
1963=55896
1964=65212
1965=74528
1966=83844
1967=93160
1968=102476
1969=111792
1970=121108
1971=130424
1972=139740
1973=149076
1974=158372
1975=167688
1976=177004

This is purely conjecture on my part and your best route to take for this info may be to contact DS Arms. They bought Steyrs tooling,drawings and spares for the StG58 and probably have the information you seek.

Did you check the barrel for the marking raspeguy mentioned?...perhaps that is a date code of sorts and would be interesting to know.
Sorry to drag this one back to life...but I'm still trying to learn, verify, research all I can about my newest addition.

If I have the following serial numbers:
Barrel: 151359
Bolt: 151176
Lower Receiver: 151156

I assume that would place the STG-58 kit made in the mid 1970's used to build my DSA FAL. DSA, still has not gotten back to me with any additional information about the rifle however, I'm told that with a DSA serial number of DS16XXX it could take some time.

Any additional information anyone can add would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,
Mike in Biloxi

I'd like to see this thread come back to life as well. Seems that there isn't much out there for verifiable serial number data for the StG 58 rifles.

Mine has all 134570 on all numbered parts with a VCL 140 marked Steyr barrel. There is a 32 near the flat closest to the chamber on the barrel. Its been build up (by someone other than me) on a Gear Logo Imbel imported by PAC. I would assume the steyr parts were made sometime in 1970?
