Couple of P Mag questions

1) Are they supposed to drop free or are they like fully lined Glock mags where it probably will drop free, but not a design parameter?

2) When stowing the dust cover, is it supposed to snap on so that it is parallel to the floor plate or is it supposed to sit at an angle that almost mimics their ranger plates? I have one that has a notch on the back of the mag that snaps on parallel, but saw one with no notch that would snap on at the weird angle. The owner thought it was supposed to mimic their mag pulls, but had never really used it period and after looking at it noticed mine would do the same thing in addition to snapping in to the obvious slot.

They are designed to drop free, if your lower receiver was made to the proper specs.

P Mags without the notch on the lower back side were not made to have the dust cover attached. Those were an early model. The cover was designed to mount parallel to the floorplate on the later versions.

The dust cover should look like this when snapped to the bottom of the Pmag

The mag in the middle is an early style and does not have the notch cut into to it to hold the dust cover

Here is a close up of the mags without the dust cover in place. On the left is a Pmag with the notch from the factory. In the middle is an early Pmag without the notch. The mag on the right is a early Pmag I modified one night when there was nothing on TV and I had too much time on my hands

The Pmag floor plates had to be modified as well

I have one AR that the P Mag has a little friction when when inserting and removing.

This same AR functions perfectly with surplus mags and the P Mag functions perfectly with other ARS.

I could probably find the high point and buff the mag but it hasn't bothered me enough to do it yet.

I have only played with 2 different new P mags, but in several different rifles and both mags would stick in at least something and it wasn't the same magwell they stuck in. All rifles tested would gobble up any aluminum mags I have tried other than obviously ragged out surplus ones.

also, there is a third generation P-mag out and the dust cover will not attach to the bottom

FWIW, i've never had any problems with p-mags not dropping free in any of the rifles i've owned.

These aren't 3rd gen(lack the tactile area).

That's what got me asking the question since I didn't think people would go nuts over them if they required manual removal. Perhaps 1 or the other wasn't in spec?

Tried a couple more. It seems to be a mag by mag issue, not a magwell issue.

Well I have a receiver where p mags are tighter, it's a Superior Arms. I have DPMS, Rock River, CMMG and Stag and they all drop from those. The p mags work really good in my Woo because they are tighter. The Woo has a bigger mag well.
