Back log

Called NFA today on a form 1.
Received last Sep 16th, is pending. They are currently working on July 2016. Told me could be a couple more months which means a year back log. Phone message says nine months, lady on phone says eleven.

I'm getting forms back from mid-June.

Rule #3 of the NFA game :File & Forget. A Waiting Form never processes.

Submit it and forget about it, when it's approved it will be like an early Christmas present.

1) Your Dealer has no control over the processing time

2) NFA Branch will get to it when they get to it.

3) if you want faster transfers, go work for NFA Branch and become one of the 20something processors who have to process 300,000-500,000 forms every year.

This July 16 I am at 12 months on a Form 4. It was an in-stock suppressor from a local dealer.

Got a message on my phone from Friday. My tax stamp finally arrived. One week shy of one year. Whew. I hope to pick it up . . . and the item . . . tomorrow.

I received my last pre-41F tax stamp on Monday. The total wait time from the day that I mailed out my paperwork to receiving my tax stamp back was 3 days shy of a year.

I guess the good old days of 28 days on a form 1 are gone for good.

I used eform back in November of 2015. The turn around was 28 and 27 days.

89 days on my suppressor.

Just under a year for a can

Filed paperwork on 07JUL2016, form 3 was approved 04OCT2016. Form 4 was approved 16JUN2017 and the dealer is awaiting the stamp now. That's my timeline. Almost a year for approval, probably be over the year mark before I can pick it up.

Awesome - Why can't NFA owners get like a FOID type card to just buy and walk out with it - we already own one (or several)- good gosh.

Exactly this.... I'm 4 months in form 3 jail now and I think there is light at the end of the tunnel as I expect there to be a big pick up now

Had two Form 4's come in to my LGS yesterday. Both mailed to the ATF the first week of July 2016. Dayum, still looking at 2-3 months.

A month and some later and nothing. I call today, still working on July 2016. Told me they got six months worth of work in July because the law change. Looking at August time frame for a form 1 that went pending Sep 16 2016.

Went to the mail box yesterday and nearly fell over. Filed a form 4 to transfer out on 5/12/2017....approved 7/12/2017, two months?
I must have looked at for 5 minutes thinking it was a mistake or there was an error on the form, even ran my finger over the stamp to see if it was real.

As a previous FFL/SOT may have had a little to do with it but that was back in the mid/late 90's...or I just got lucky. I'm still shaking my head at this one.

Been waiting 11 months for paperwork, just doesn't seem right to wait so long.

LGS got another one in this week. Dated first week of August 2016.

Have they cleared up the July 16 logjam already? Sure hope so.

I submitted my form 1 and it was active on 8/26/16. I called a few weeks ago and they informed me of the backlog created from last year on the last admiration exit; hence why I don't have it.

I just got it last week. It also makes me wonder if I got it; since I reminded them of how long it has been.

I also told them about a form 4 I submitted and was logged on 3/24/17 from a individual to a dealer (which should even go faster) that was still open.

Hopefully; the process gets back to normal in 2018.

UPDATE:

After not seeing anything up to today, I called NFA. Form 1 is approved and on the way back to me as of Aug 10th. Wonder what's taking the mail so long?

Last one I got back took them almost 2 weeks to mail out after approval date according to the date/postage stamp that was on the envelope.

Nice people on the phone said not even to call them about it unless it has been approved for a month.

No, I don't know why they're still holding the forms after approval. But they are.

My Class 3 Dealer called ATF about a couple of Form 1's and Form 4's. They told him that the delay could now be expected to be 18 months due the the huge input last June. This was two weeks ago. Still waiting on my Form 4 from last year.

Form 4 submitted end of December. SOT just called and he has it in hand. So roughly 8 month turn around.

My Cl 3 guy told me they have now assigned an additional 100 examiners and times should begin to shorten. I have 2 F1's in since March, 2 outgoing F4's and 3 incoming suppressor F4's just went out. I have 1 more F4 that will go out in about a week. I'm getting too old to be waiting a year!!

I have "heard" they are catching up nearly a months worth of back log every week and a half or so. I'm hoping my f4 from march will be ready in oct. that being said, I also heard the boxes of pending were mistakingly mixed up so they are not being approved chronologically from aug/sept- dec. who the hells knows though, it's all rumors and speculation

Dealers that are using efile have had times drop down to less than 24 hours on a form 3 transfer and form 4's are down to 6 weeks.

At LGS told me dealer to dealer procedure at ATF has changed and times have dropped way down. For retail it's still the same and hope it will speed up when last of pre Trust law change pileup is processed.
