2 miles in Napali trail on Kauai.

Photo is a few years old, but we are planning the same hike again this Fall. Just can't stop thinking about it.

Same trail 4.5 miles in.

There, made it in 4.5 miles to a beautiful waterfall. Quick dip in the pool at the bottom, a little lunch and a wonderful 4.5 mile hike back out to the beach. Whatta life.

Ah, after a 9 mile hike, back at the beach where the Napali trail begins. Time for a dip in the ocean.

A little coconut ball anyone?

Aloha

Sierra club rates this one as 10+ for difficulty.
Most in the area are not as tough.
An awful lot of elevation changes over a few miles.

I'm so jealous. This was the one hike in Hawaii that I really wanted to do but never made time to while living out there. I got to explore Kauai a little and it was my favorite island. Went up to Queens bath and jumped off a cliff by a waterfall to swim and some turtles joined us. What a cool experience. I knew a guy that had an extra permit to do the full trail but timing was off for me. As amazing as that place is in photos you truly don't understand the full effect until you see it in person.

That is exactly right. Photos only tell a part of the story. That is why we go back every year for almost 20 now. It recharges my batteries.

For someone from Ohio, it's a ball-buster. For someone from out this way, a welcome respite.

I have seen people from all over that quit during the first 1/4 mile.
I have , many times, jokingly told folks with their tongues hanging out that the good humor man is just around the next corner. Bigest mistake a lot make is not taking enough water for the hike. Next is overestimating their own abilities. It is no cakewalk.

No cakewalk for sure, but you should come for a walkabout out here.

No thanks. I saw the wx prediction for 120 out there.
My daughter lives outside Taos NM and that is plenty warm for this old man.
I had a friend years ago that did some tour guiding at Apache Junction AZ and he never could get me out to that neck of the woods.
