Posse Whatchamacallit.....

US troops to get new headgear for 'Homeland Security operations'

The U.S. Army is planning to develop new protective headgear for soldiers that will shield them from ballistic munitions, small arms ammunition and blunt trauma as part of missions that will include “homeland security operations.”

A solicitation on behalf of the Army Contracting Command asks for potential vendors to present proposals for the development and production of new headgear as part of the Soldier Protection System (SPS).

“This head protection ensemble is planned to replace the current helmet system. The SPS will provide the Soldier multiple levels of ballistic protection that can be tailored to select mission profiles and protection against specific threats from conventional fragmenting munitions, small arms ammunition, and blunt impact. Soldiers equipped with the SPS will be able to accomplish a broad range of missions. The SPS will protect Soldiers involved in major combat operations, stability operations, homeland security operations, joint operating concepts, and the joint force functional concept,” states the solicitation.

Developers are asked to present white papers featuring details of the helmet systems by no later than September 4.

The fact that U.S. troops are getting new headgear to protect them from gunfire during “homeland security operations” will once again stoke fears that the government is preparing for violent civil unrest on U.S. soil.

Using the Army to conduct domestic operations is illegal under Posse Comitatus except under extreme circumstances.

This potus doesn't seem to have a problem working outside the constitution, so none of this should be surprising.

Our government would never use our military against we civilians.

Our soldiers would never obey an Unconstitutional order.

The Generals will prevent anyone from assuming dictatorial control.

All of the new legislation which guts the Bill of Rights is only for terrorists, not US citizens.

The government will just try to keep order in extreme circumstances.

All of those rioting, hungry proles deserve to be shot.

Have I missed anything?

Good thing that the Geneva Convention is still in place.

Except that I don't believe we are actually signatories to it.

It looks like all you need is a Uniform, an Insignia and a Leader and you
are a Combatant as opposed to a Civilian who would not be entitled to
protections under the Convention. There were certain aspects of the Fourth
Convention that the US and Several other nations objected to under Sovereign Status.

No doubt. I understand that certain people in Willie's administration used to refer to that Amazon as "The Giant Clam".

Using the Army to conduct domestic operations is illegal under Posse Comitatus except under extreme circumstances.
The use of Federalized troops is restricted to situations where local law enforcement is overwhelmed and unable to restore order,,, this criteria is fading.
The helmet does not exist by reason of it's design criteria,,, Napoleon wanted such a helmet also,,, the materials to make it did not exist then either,,,, the practicality has not changed as yet.
I always said you know who throws like a girl and walks like a pimp.

The Germans weigh in.....

German Court Reverses Anti-'Nazi-Era' Military Restrictions

Late on Friday, the BBC reported that the German military will in future be able to use its weapons on German streets in an extreme situation. This ruling, we hope purely a technicality - but clearly warranting some concern as to 'why now?' - by Germany's Constitutional Court, reverses some of the severe restriction on military deployments that were set down in the German constitution after Nazi-era abuses.

Don't worry, remember all of those sleeper cells they warned about post 9/11? Well, when they bomb Iran, they figure these Hezbollah based cells are going to activate and reak havoc worldwide, so they are just preparing to deal with the terrorist threat. This has nothing to do with rioting caused by financial collapse. And unless you're a terrorist, you have nothing to fear from this immense power expansion by the world's govenrments. It is all to keep us safe.

About time they got rid of those berets.

Give the regular forces back their overseas caps, so they look like soldiers, and not gay frenchies.

When only the SF and GB wore berets, it was ok, but not now.

Oops, this is about new helmet? Takes years to develop crap like that and when Ricard Marcinko, and the Seals wear watch caps, it is a fools errand, indeed.

And they would NEVER consider using this ruling otherwise, I'm sure

Hi - we're from the government and we're here ---- oh, never mind, just assume the position .

Actually, I am not TOTALLY cynical, and your point has merit. My problem is that governments - particularly our own, of late - usually seem to eventually find a way to abuse otherwise well-intentioned allotment of power.
