I did it again...

I had temporary insanity and mistakenly went to the local gun show....

I had to try very hard to resist buying,
A bunch of tapco stocked sks's priced $495. and up.
A few mossberg 500's starting at $550.
A bunch of Remmy 700 sps's new but without boxes starting at $899.
A used ruger 77 in .243 with tasco glass for the bargain basement price of $995.
A few poision moisins in different states of butchery starting at $475.
A whole table full of nice older smith wheel guns with varying degrees of rust or finish spotting damage (except for the one with peeling nickle) priced higher than NIB ones bring.
Varing sporterized military rifles, most without glass, starting at $599.,,but including a well butchered 1917 for a cool $999.
A ban era nutered chinese ak for $1500.
And the queen of the show,,a Colt 1917 with rust patina, grips that look like it was used as a hammer, a barrel that looked bent and a bore that may of had rifling once apon a time, but not recently, for a paltry $1399.

Once.again I swear,,NEVER AGAIN.....

You are doing it wrong amigo, come go with me and Kevin sometime. The REAL fun of our local gun shows is the drive home laughing with your friend about the stupid chit you saw there and the stop for a few beers and a cheeseburger on the way home. We only do it on cold, rainy Saturday mornings, but it beats hanging around the house when it is crappy weather and not hunting season

Gun shows have almost always been a waste for me. The only good stuff Iíve ever gotten at them were a couple adapters to use civilian cleaning tips on vintage steel military rods. One of my buddies scored some old PMC 7.62x39 brass case stuff at a great price from a table once on the last day. I missed out on some cool brass knuckles because I was being a cheapskate, but I was happy to leave the rest behind.

$6. To get in,,hot dogs or sodas were a buck,,no beer or jerky available.

The stupid ass prices were just amazingly mind boggling ...
Yet I couldent get $200. for the clean older savage 110 in 270win with bushnell glass rifle I carried around trying to unload.....

Sometimes you get lucky

I went to a small show in Allentown last month and found an all matching STG58 kit built on an Imbel receiver for $1050.

Went to the OGCA last time. Even there, everything is overpriced. Thinking about not renewing.

You go to shitty shows.

I picked up a S&W model 34 and a model 18 for $800
And a LNIB 3rd gen G23 for $275.

Pretty normal show.

Oh yea, and a SKS paratrooper with folding stock, original stock, 30 round mags and original mag and 120 rounds for $350

Looking forward to the next show

I gave up on the local gun shows during Zippy the Wonder Pussy's second term in the White House. Nothing but stupid high prices on the same tired old crap by the same thieving dealers.

That and the stench of unwashed bodies. The local rednecks only take a bath once a week at most.

The conservation club I belong to and shoot at is having a show on the weekend before the mid term elections. I will be sure to miss it.....

And so it goes.

The only place you will find really rare parts is Knob Creek and local shows. Be patient and dig through boxes of crap for the gems.

Maybe thats why I tried the local show, I skipped the creek fall show this year.
Ive skipped the spring show for awhile and only gone in the fall anyway.
Past couple of years I havent even bought anything there except some needed small parts and maybe a few knives, as prices seemed stupid high there too and cases of blasting ammo I dont shoot enough anymore to need more of...The golden bargains of the creek and leaving carrying a ton of stuff are past history now.

Wannamaker's Big Tulsa Gun Show is early next month. Not every show, but often enough worth the effort. I've picked up things during the Friday pack in, and the last day of the show that'd make a grown man blush. T48 handguards, Belgian kits, NIB guns, tidbits or rarity...yeah, I'll still go to a gun show or two before I die....

Your mileage may definitely vary.

I've found the trick is to go to the small-town, non commercial shows. Went to one about an hr drive from Houston, bought more stuff there from a total of about 30 tables than I had in the previous 10 big commercial Houston shows combined. That little show was at the VFW hall and was all individuals. I bought 10mm for under $10 a box, 5 boxes of American Eagle M1a ammo for $60, few other things that were actually cheap and desirable.

I've determined that the big shows are a good source of exercise for looking at stuff I'll buy somewhere else.

The South African Vickers .308 conversion kit I skipped at KCR for $500 was, as of last night, at $1750 on GB.

The German MG42 front end at KCR I skipped at $425 is now on GB, last bid I saw was $700.

GSKA sold a MG42 kit a few months ago for about $2500 IIRC (which seems to be going rate), I got one at KCR for $850 and it included an extra front end, extra cam area w/ door, and extra Yugo front end. Figure that's worth $3k in all.

At KCR I offered $2k for a WW2 British Vickers kit w/ smooth jacket; as of Sunday (I heard) it was still there asking $2350. Pretty sure somebody could have got it at $2k on Sunday, easy flip for $2300 or more on GB.

Wolf had a MG34 kit minus bipod for $1200 and it sold. Add a bipod at $250 and flip for $1800, easy $350 right there minimum.

Scrounging various tables, I got what assembled to be three MG34 complete top covers, stock w/ buffer and cup (the really hard part to find), feed tray, complete grip, synthetic stock (now repaired) and lots of spares. Total in about $700...figure can flip for $1800 total.

Also got six MG34 barrels at $70 each. I got two Browning 1917 complete top covers at $300 each, already flipped; they retail at $1000 each.

In April I picked up three Vickers feed blocks at $50 each; going price is ~$125. Easy money.

Still plenty of stuff to find and flip.

If I need ammunition or components, I buy it in bulk, and I have it delivered. Usually avoid tax and shipping.

If I get the urge to buy ANOTHER gun, I go to the range instead.

If there comes along a gun I will actually use, Iíll consider it. Canít think of anything presently.

Damn yovinny, I don't feel so bad now. I just sold the same 110 with a cheap Chinese scope on it for $350. I thought I might have gone too low.

I only go to my local shows if I am in need of an ammo. I use Georgia Arms ammo for 2 rifles that I shoot most often. I get it at their show price and not have to worry about shipping and HazMat fees. State sales tax is still less than those fees.
