American Spartan - short book review

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share my impressions of a book I’ve been reading.

It is called: “American Spartan” written by Ann Scott Tyson (2014).

It tells the story of Special Forces Major Jim Gant. He had the idea of embedding US soldiers with Afghan tribes, training the tribes and tribal militias and fighting alongside them, trying to defeat the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

His concept was successful, maybe too successful. Unfortunately he was later on stonewalled and childish charges were filed against him by folks that did not understand true special forces work and mentality.

To me, Major Jim Gant was betrayed by his higher ups that could not grasp how he was doing things.

If I would have been with him, I would have followed him anywhere and everywhere. He was a true soldier and a true Green Beret in my book.

He fought a war to win it, not just to waste time, lives, money and resources.

If anybody else thinks about reading this book - do it. It is well worth it.

I strongly hope that I get to see Major Jim Gant one of these days, and can express my gratitude for his service.

This would be something to look forward to.
