Believe they just passed a law in Texas allowing the hunting of feral hogs from a helicopter.

Watching this on a small tablet; was it me or did he shoot a dingo at 2:03?

Yes you can. Just remember to aim behind them.

(still want to know what a semiauto mertic FAL is doing is Australia.)

Sure looked like it. I don't know why you'd want to kill the only other animal out there capable of killing the porcine bastards. Reminds me of the dipshits who kill coyotes and then bitch that the rabbit population is out of control.

That looks intensely awesome. Flying over beautiful country and zapping all the hogs you can find? Sign me up.

The gun must be in some kind of mount....it doesn't move much at all.
Aren't Dingo's a protected critter there?

notice how many of them dropped with 1 shot. compare that to the heli-culling videos where they use .556.

HeliHogg'in- let me pilot or shoot, fun either way.

Spear chuck'in from a chopper, that would be fun. Rifle is too easy.

Pretty sure you just need to prove you have a damned good reason to own it.
Clearing out non native species that are destroying habitat and resources appears to be one that is approved.

Wanting to, target shooting, and collecting don't appear to warrant approval, I believe.

Yes it was a dingo.

There are many many semi rifles out with J Q Public here. Professional Feral Game destruction (this is not your weekend pass time but actual job) is a legitimate reason to own one. In fact another member here is an Aussie that uses a DSA FAL for just this. May even be his video.

Last time I was over at my Gunsmith's place he has an M4, MP40 and AK47 in his shop safe (not semis).

Some available from an Aussie dealer..

Are SLRs still at all common with professional game cullers, or are they mostly moving to the sidelines now in favor of newer arms?

For many many years they were close to if not the most popular, shotguns also got plenty of use years ago as well. The hardest part now is they are just wearing out and keeping them shooting is harder to do and they can't be replaced, there are just not enough left of them in private hands, hence the DSAs you see now. As you can see in the video they go through lots of rounds...!!! The Nat Parks shooters here (Govt) even more so. Last time I was involved they shot for five days and used nearly 20K rounds. I have seen one SCAR-H in use, not sure how many they bought but I will soon hear about the longevity of it.

At several points in the video, the shadow of the helicopter looks like one of the little Robinson two seaters. Maybe not so much a hard mount, but hung from a couple bungee straps? Based on the constant perspective of the camera, I'd guess the camera is rifle mounted.
